Capcom Still Believe In Third-Party Exclusives

5:30PM Luke Plunkett | Games cost a lot of money now, there’s not as many people owning current-gen consoles as owned stuff like the PS2, competition between the three platforms is closer than last gen, blah blah blah. In short, the third-party exclusive is dead. We’ve heard it all before. Capcom have heard it all before, too, and do you think they care? They couldn’t give a rat’s arse. Capcom marketing VP – and exquisitely-named gentleman – Nique Fajors: Exclusives are driven by gameplay functionality and cost. If you get your gameplay functionality and costs right, exclusivity can work. How right he is! Phoenix Wright, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Devil May Cry…oh, wait… Capcom: Third-Party Exclusives Still Viable [Next-Gen] More »

Devil May Cry Animated Series Out In February

4:30PM Luke Plunkett | Capcom have announced that Dante and co.’s debut on the effeminate, over-sized sword-and-gun-wielding animated scene is nearly upon us. To tie in with the launch of Devil May Cry 4, the first volume of the DMC animated series will be released in the US by ADV films on February 5. It’ll be $26.96, or if you’d prefer to fork out for something with a less puzzling price point, it comes bundled with the special edition of the game. [Capcom] More »

Codemasters Going After Game “Pirates”

3:20PM Luke Plunkett | Codemasters are sick to death of people in the UK pirating and distributing their games. Their logic being that’s money they’re missing out on. So they’ve hired London-based rights lawyers Davenport Lyons to go after anyone and everyone they can find illegally distributing, and receiving, pirated Codemasters titles. Thing is, Davenport Lyons don’t actually do the hunting. Swiss firm Logistep are responsible for that. They employ P2P-tracking software which they claim is “fully accurate”, and anyone their software finds to be involved in shady business, Davenport Lyons go after. More »

One Man & A Little Lady

2:40PM Michael McWhertor | To: Ash & Flynn From: McWhertor Re: On Beards & Tacos Guys, how do you work this thing? I’m new to this whole Day Note business. Someone left the thing in a cozy bundle outside my door, hoping it would find a good home and now I’m stuck with it. Frankly, I’m not the mothering type and find caring for the Day Note to be… well, icky. The Day Note has already spit up on the couch and no matter how hard I shake it, it just won’t stop crying. The sooner I’m rid of it the better. Damn it! I’ve gotta change another poopy nappy. Here’s what you missed while Luke was caring for the Night Note and playing Kyuss to his beard. Ziff Sets Us Straight On Stolen Street Fighter IV Pics

1:20PM Michael McWhertor | Earlier today, we posted about the plight of “tiny Brazilian blog” Blogeek, who, as you may remember, posted a pair of screen shots of Street Fighter IV yesterday. Amazingly, the site scooped 1UP to its own exclusive, claiming it had received the screens and details on the Capcom fighter from an “anonymous source”. The site’s owner, Douglas Pereira, wrote us this morning, crying out for help. “Ziff Davis is going after me. They’re chasing me,” he lamented. It was very heart-wrenching. More »

LotRO Gets Cheaper For The Holidays

1:00PM Mike Fahey | With Blizzard adding a cold pack to their Burning Crusade and NCsoft giving Guild Wars players five hours of marketing, what does Lord of the Rings Online have to offer MMO players this Holiday season? Low, low prices! From now until January 31st, new and existing subscribers to LotRO can pay only $US 9.99 month, $US 5 off their normal $US 14.99 rate. You’ll have to pay $US 29.97 for three months at a time in order to take advantage of the special offer, but 33% off is nothing to scoff at. Of course had you known you’d be so addicted you would have just dropped $US 200 at launch for the lifetime subscription. Hindsight, huh? The Funde Razor Edges Ever Closer

12:40PM Michael McWhertor | As your Friday night plans are gelling, don’t neglect next week’s all-important Wednesday night festivities. While mine will include eating a pound of meat soaked in a to-be-determined Mexican sauce, combined with salty margaritas, those in the greater Denver and New York City areas should be adding one of the Funde Razor events to their to-do lists. The NYC gig throws down at gaming and drinking hotspot Barcade, in the heart of Brooklyn. The Denver flavored equivalent tears it up at the Walnut Room, which just oozes class. Both will be a raucously charitable time, featuring Rock Band and Guitar Hero gameplay, plus boozing, all benefiting Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity. Donations are taken at the door and many coveted things will be given away to lucky raffle ticket holders. For more details on the event that puts the fun back into fund raiser, hit up the official site. Keep in mind, it’s limited to those 21 and over. This may be your only chance to see Brian Crecente in a bird shirt or Joel Johnson in frilly scarf in person. Funde Razor More »
