Mrs. Bashcraft Pwns

11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Crecente From: Bash RE: BrianCon No shit. I feel like I’ve been moving non-stop since E3. I do wish this stuff was spaced out a bit more. Spent most of the day finishing up a feature, which should go live later today or tomorrow. Hopefully people will enjoy reading it! What my wife did this weekend: Beat Excite Truck on every level of difficulty (man, we so need a new Wii game). After that, we went to a game center — where Mrs. Bashcraft spent 40 bucks on crane games. She won a ton of Pokémon crap. All probably valued at 5 dollars. Or less. She’s way better than I am at crane games. And Excite Truck, apparently. What you missed: More »

No Real-Money Transactions For WoW

10:50PM Luke Plunkett | A lotta MMO providers are big on real-money transactions. Not Blizzard. They hate that shit. When asked whether he thought they were losing money by not offering real-money transactions, company co-founder Frank Pearce said: Can you show us a profit and loss statement that shows that we lose money on that? I would say that that’s arguable, because part of protecting the integrity of the game is ensuring that the subscribership has a reason to continue playing and feels good about the experience that they have. You tell ‘em Frank. And no, I didn’t think subscribership was a real word either. Blizzard dismisses microtransaction model [Gamesindustry] More »

SingStar PS3 Tracklist Partially Unveiled

9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sony threw a little party at the House of Blues the other day. On offer? Booze, no doubt, and perhaps even blues, but also the PS3 version of SingStar. Journos in attendance reported good times, as you’d expect, but they also came away from the night with 15 of the 30 pack-in songs scribbled down on the back of soggy drinks coasters. Hit the jump for the full partial list: More »

Crysis Trailer Rips Off Turok’s?

9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Those copy cats! The new Crysis countdown trailer seems a little too similar to the E3 Turok trailer. Don’t believe me? Hit the jump and judge for yourself. More »

Hitchhiker’s Text Adventure Playable Over IM

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Finally. A use for IM other than being propositioned, saucily, by lonely readers (not that I mind!). Seems a bloke by the name of Ben Burry has hooked a copy of classic Infocom text adventure Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy up to a Jabber (skype instant-mssaging) bot. Result? Message “!startgame” to prakbot AT jabber DOT org and you play the game via IM. Well done Ben, this is definitely the best use of the internet for 2007. What’s That Face Training Game Like?

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Face Training for the DS is OUT. Like, you can walk into any Japanese game retailer, buy it and start training your face. Over at Infendo, they did just that, blogging: A facening routine has three parts: a body warm-up, a face warm-up, and then the actual facening itself… The pre-facening warm-ups don’t use the camera, but simply ask you to move your shoulders about a bit, then close your eyes and move your mouth from side to side, with the aid of an on-screen woman. Fake Mario, Bowser Are Rubbish, Apparantly

7:40PM Luke Plunkett | Not sure on the accuracy of the claims, since I never played a pirated Mario that made him a bumbling drunk. Or had furious midgets. But the message is a pretty neat one regardless. [via Go Nintendo] More »

Quake Arena? For The DS?

7:30PM Luke Plunkett | The DS is home to many kinds of games. Games where your brain is trained. Where Pokemon (all of them) are often caught, then traded. Where ponies aren’t just ridden, they are your friend. But id FPS games? Nope, it is not home to them, least not officially. Could soon be, though. At last week’s QuakeCon, John Carmack said that id “may” be working on Quake Arena for the DS. And that if they “were”, he’d like it to drop Metroid Hunters’ touch-screen viewing in favour of a Doom-style fixed perspective. None of this is confirmed, mind you, but if you had to categorise the news it’d have to go in the “mm…yes, keep me posted” section, if only because I’d really like to see more FPS games on the platform. Hot Shots Golf 5 Event Not So Hot

7:00PM Brian Ashcraft | This Sunday saw a Hot Shots Golf 5 rally event in front of the Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara — a location prime for foot traffic. The series has traditionally been extremely popular in Japan, and the players in that day’s rally would get Hot Shots goods. According to Akiba Blog, no one apparently came as staffers in white shirts stood out front waiting. All this is trivial! The Hot Shots Golf 5 PS3 bundle has moved some more machines for Sony. That’s what really matters and not some game rally. Right? Right?! Minna no Golf 5 Zero Customers [Akiba Blog] More »
