Halo 360 Dated, Priced For Australia

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | At tonight’s Halo 3 bash, Microsoft Australia took time out to announce a release date and price for the Halo edition 360 console (sadly no news on the Elite, as “winter” tick ticks away). The release date will be on September 20, just before the game’s launch, and it’ll set you back AUD$679.95. Kinda steep, yeah, at $100 more than the Pro, but what price for limited-edition Halo exclusivity? Oh, yeah. That price. More »

New Fall Of Liberty Trailer

11:00PM Luke Plunkett | It’s no secret I’m looking forward to this game. Zeppelins push a lot of my buttons. So here’s some more zeppelins, as well as a first look at what’s hopefully a nifty third-person mode, which you switch into for tricky gymnastics. That or its an awful in-game cutscene. Let’s hope for the former! More »

Vote For Super Swing 2 Voice Actors!

9:30PM Brian Ashcraft | For those who didn’t get enough Super Swing Golf, more is coming. That’s right, PangYa 2 will be hitting the Wii… Sometime. This northern winter, apparently. (Doesn’t it even matter? The prequel came out last winter!) While the game did feature cute versions of Dead or Alive characters, it didn’t exactly set the world on fire. This time around, Tecmo is asking Japanese gamers to choose voice actors they’d like for each in-game character. There’s a voting site and everything. The Tecmo site apparently does carry a warning that someone besides the voice actor with the most votes might not be selected. Pointless? Yes? Kinda like Super Swing Golf 2nd Shot. See Why Madden Sucks On The PS3 (For Those Who Care)

9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | You’ve heard the excuses, now here’s the comparison. EA says the PS3 Madden looks cruddy compared to the Xbox 360 version, because the company has more experience developing 360 games. I say: This is proof why companies shouldn’t try to port games from the 360 to the PS3. If you are going to release two versions, then develop two totally separate versions! It’s that simple. And that expensive. Thanks, Steven! More »

Molyneux Prefers DS/PSP To Mobile Phone Gaming

8:30PM Brian Ashcraft | Peter Molyneux, he’s a thinker. So, when he looks at mobile phone games, what does he think? He prefers the DS and the PSP. Smart man. Here’s why: There’s no doubt in my mind that we will be playing more games on mobile devices. What those mobile devices will be, and what they’re capable of is still very much up for grabs. They’re changing as fast as the early computer games industry changed, if not faster. My one wish for that is that mobile phones were made with some sympathy for games to be played on them, because they’re not, and that must be immensely frustrating for people developing for them. A Japanese Poltical Game That Could’ve Been Better

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | DS game Atushi Onita’s Political Quiz doesn’t sound that interesting. It quizzes players on their knowledge of the Japanese government. Atsushi Onita does. Background on him: After dropping out of high school, he began wrestling. He was a star of Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling and created the barbed wire death match. He’s even appeared in wrestling games like Fire Pro and Toukon Retsuden. He even starred in a movie! More »

European GHIII Tracks To Be Unveiled At Leipzig

7:30PM Luke Plunkett | The rampant speculation over which long-haired European metal/rock acts Neversoft and Activision will include in the European version of Guitar Hero III will soon be over: the game’s Europe-specific inclusions will be debuted at Leipzig, it was announced yesterday at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival. Zach Fountain, General Manager of RedOctane Europe: The Guitar Hero road show moves from here to Leipzig, where we’ll be announcing a whole new stack of European songs for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Not one. Not three. A whole new stack. And while European metal will be most people’s first choice for inclusion, I’m kinda hoping for some Refused to find its way in there as well. New Guitar Hero III track unveiled, European songs announced at Leipzig [Dtoid] More »

The Mexican 8-Bit Xbox 360-Looking Emulator

7:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Confused? Heck, I’m confused, and I wrote this. Kotakuite Erzengel spotted a NES emulator in a Mexican shopping mall that looks an Xbox 360. He writes: I was walking around a well known mexican mall (wich makes sense since im mexican), when i saw, in a “serious” store, this pieces of… well, the pic says it all. Its a Xbox-like 8BITS videogame system. Yup, 8 bits, wich means NES quality games, in a shiny white box. Makes me kind of sad, many kids are gonna get this because their tech impaired parents wont be able to see the differences. In case you ask, the price is around US$28. Wonder if Super Mario Bros. causes it to lock up and crap out. Zing! More »

Working With Microsoft Not Epic’s “Chief Priority” Now

6:30PM Brian Ashcraft | Epic honcho Mark Rein fired this flamebait: “We’ll compress some things. But you know, we may have fewer maps on the 360 version… Blu-Ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom.” That’s not all. He also said: “If you think down the road, well maybe the next UT beyond this one, on Blu-Ray disc, we might fill the whole damn disc with all the cool stuff the mod makers make.” Take THAT, Microsoft!! Today’s he back with some back peddling and side-stepping. What’s more, he’s disappointed. Over on the Epic Forums, Rein writes: I continue to be disappointed that folks on the internet treat any positive thing we say about one platform as some sort of critique of another platform. We’re a multi-platform company folks please come to grips with that. We like the PC. We like the 360. We like the PS3. We like the Macintosh. We like Linux. We will deliver UT3 for all of these platforms and it will rock on every one. Yes, but rock some of them more with that extra “legroom.” And disappointed? Is this the first time he’s used the internet? He continues (so will we): More »

Wacky BioShock Glitch

6:00PM Brian Ashcraft | And you thought the lighting bolts were impressive! There’s a glitch in the BioShock demo that lets players jump through glass and walk underwater. Huh. I’m going to have to go try this. Does anyone know if this is in the final version or just a demo glitch? More »
