The Tragedy Of The Stalled Heat Game
3:30PM Luke Plunkett | Man it’s hard to NOT like Heat. Pacino, De Niro, Voight, Sizemore, Val Kilmer and a lot of guns? It’s the PERFECT movie. Could have made the perfect game, too, especially with Gearbox at the helm, but despite being announced over a year ago it’s obvious the game has stalled. Shuffled off quietly under the house and died. Why? How? Why? Next-Gen have an interview with Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford that goes into detail on just what happened to the thing. In brief, it’s a sad, sad tale: conflicting business schedules, publisher problems and cash money have conspired to kill it. Which is a crying shame! I’ve got a feeling Gearbox could really have done the movie justice. What Happened to Gearbox’s Heat? [Next-Gen] More »
This Sonic Race Car Broke Our Cold Little Hearts
3:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Man, we were SO EXCITED when we heard about this. A Sonic and Tails car racing set. How rad is that? Sadly, it’s just two little blue and yellow cars with stickers on them. Like so many things Sonic these days, this is a major let down. Writes the dude who found this: I got this Sonic the Hedgehog racing set years ago at a thrift market. It’s not really anything special as it’s just a regular race track, but with Sonic and Tails’ face pasted onto the cars (and the box). Either way, it DOES have Sonic’s name on it, and I assume anything that cashed in on his character from when his games actually were fun might be worth showing, so there you go. BTW I’m selling it if anyone wants it… Um. No. So Sad [UK:R] More »Ratchet & Clank PS3

Analysts Predict PS3 To Beat 360 For July
2:00PM Michael McWhertor | Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter notes in an investor letter released today that he expects NPD monthly sales figures to favour the PLAYSTATION 3 over the Xbox 360 for the month of July. With 160,000 and 115,000 projected sales, respectively, Pachter credits the shift to the PS3’s July price drop and the negative press surrounding Microsoft’s hardware woes. The report, writes Wired’s Chris Kohler, puts the Wii ahead of both systems sales combined, some 330,000 units sold. While I can easily believe the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 sales figures, Nintendo console sales seem suspect. Seriously, where are these 330,000 people finding their Wiis? I’ve literally never seen one in stock. My girlfriend had to buy me one on her lunch break. Wedbush Morgan: July PS3 Sales Will Top 360 [Game|Life] More »
The Top Ten Developers In Britain Last Month
1:40PM Luke Plunkett | It can sometimes be hard working out who the most successful developers in a given market are when the whole charts are taken up by Nintendo. How do we know who came second? Seventh? We don’t. Enter ChartTrack, who are providing “top developer” charts for the UK, which tally up monthly sales across the whole company, and across all platforms, and rank them. Not that you need this info, but hey it can’t hurt either. The company’s top-selling game for the month is in brackets: More »
Warhammer RTS Coming To 360
1:20PM Luke Plunkett | Warhammer: Mark of Chaos didn’t really kick people’s tyres like Dawn of War did. Partly because straight-up Warhammer isn’t as badass as 40K, mostly because the game just wasn’t much chop. And what do we do when PC players don’t really take to an RTS, but it’s set in a bankable universe? You bet your ASS it gets ported to the 360. Namco Bandai have announced that Warhammer: Battle March will be coming to the console. Ignore the new name: it’s Mark of Chaos with some extra units and two new armies. PC fans of the game will also be getting the new stuff in an expansion. Expect both in 2008. Namco To Bring Warhammer: Battle March To 360 [Gamasutra] More »
Plans To Expand Wii Production Stalled
1:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Thought it was going to be easier to get a Wii? Think again. Nintendo’s plans to expand Wii production has apparently been delayed according to Taiwan-based component makers. The expansion was previously slated for June, but has been now been pushed backed due to tight supply of IC chips and PCBs. What’s that mean? Shortages most likely won’t ease up this year. Bummer. Dyack Says Too Human On For ‘08, Demo “Forthcoming”
12:40PM Michael McWhertor | Silicon Knights’ main man Denis Dyack wrote in the TooHuman.net forums today that the long in development Too Human will be out sometime in 2008, just days after confirming that the title is “on track” for a release next year. He also promises a “firm date with tons of new info is coming soon.” Following that, anyone looking forward to the former Nintendo 64 adventure game should then keep their eyes open for a playable demo of the game on Xbox Live. Dyack also claimed that the Too Human demo “will speak for itself.” Can’t wait to hear what it has to say. Too Human Confirmed for 2008 – Demo Forthcoming [TooHuman.net] More »
A BioShock…EP? With “Period” Remixes?
12:20PM Luke Plunkett | That’s what the press release says. If you’re picking up the BioShock limited edition at GameStop, EB Canada or Game Crazy, you’ll also be getting a 3-track EP, which contains three of the game’s period songs remixed by Moby and Oscar the Punk. Strange PR move? Well…yes! Still, it’s free, and who knows, could be OK, even if Moby is involved. Maybe. Hit the jump for full release. More »
