I Miss Gaming’s Wow Factor
11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Not World of Warcraft. Wow. Maybe WOWSERS if that’s more your style. As in, a term of excitement. That’s what Peter Molyneux thinks is missing in games. …what I desperately want I don’t see very often these days: that moment I had when I first saw computer games. When I first saw Street Fighter, my eyes were glued to the screen. You look back at it now and it looks really rubbish, but it was incredible at that time. We have to get that sense of wonder back into this industry, and that’s a real obsession of mine at the moment. So, what, we need more Street Fighter? No, silly, we need his obsession. That’d be Fable 2, then. Convenient! Say what you will about his end results (I adored Fable, but may be in the minority on that one), you’ve got to at least admit Pete’s a fun guy to have around. Gabe Newell Totally Hates The PS3
10:50PM Luke Plunkett | Gabe Newell’s not a PS3 man. Why? Two reasons. One is that he’s a PC man. Other is that he…well, hates the PS3. Hates it real bad. How bad’s real bad? This bad: Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There’s nothing there that you’re going to apply to anything else. You’re not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they’ve created… I don’t think they’re going to make money off their box. I don’t think it’s a good solution. Poor Sony! You can bet right now Phil Harrison’s crossing Gabe’s name off their Christmas card list in the biggest, fattest red marker he could find. And Phil’s got an extensive red marker collection. Actually, The 360 Steering Wheels Are Fine
10:20PM Luke Plunkett | Back in August, Microsoft announced they were having problems with their snazzy “wireless” wheel. Seems in some instances the thing was overheating and “releasing smoke”. In other words, one step short of catching fire, engulfing your home and loved ones in flame before exploding in a shower of sharp plastic fragments. It all sounded very bad at the time, but turns out, it was really all OK! According to Microsoft, anyways. They’ve only been informed of 70 “incidents” involving the wheel’s power supply, which with 230,000 of them sold constitutes a “nothing to see here” from MS HQ. I’ll go to sleep tonight wondering just what constitutes an “incident”. Microsoft Extinguishes Racing Wheel Fears [Next-Gen] More »
Mario Made from Floppy Discs
10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Reader Rodrigo sends this: I made Mario entirely out of floppy discs, and will be making a full mural in my apartment soon. Speechless. *round of applause* More »
FIFA 08: A Million Served (In Europe)
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | FIFA 08 usurping Halo 3 at the top of the British charts was no accident. Case you slept through the tutorial, Europe loves football. Loves it to bits. Certainly loves it more than any unfinished fight. Want proof? FIFA 08 sold a million in Europe in its first week on sale. It helps that the game’s available on every format barring the Spectrum, but still, a million sold in Europe in seven days is what Pro Evo’s going to need to beat if it wants to walk past FIFA’s house with its tongue out making silly, childish noises. Press release follows. More »
Japanese Dude Wins 100 Xbox 360 Games
9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Xbox Japan’s summer campaign “Xbox 360 100 Titles Present” has drawn to a close, and the three winners have been selected. One of those winners has plastered his loot all over the internet. Ever wondered what 93* different Xbox 360 games look like on some guy’s green futon? That, after the jump. More »
Relive The Nintendo Fall Conference, This Time In English
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Hope you all enjoyed the Nintendo Fall Conference yesterday. I know we did. Highly-concentrated bursts of news are always good times, but they’re even better when you don’t need to translate every word coming out of it. Here, then, is the complete conference (videos, powerpoint slides and all) translated into English. So kick back, forget yesterday ever happened and relive every moment, this time in a language that for 98.8% of you… well, makes sense! Nintendo Conference [Nintendo] More »
Ping Pong For Wii Ware
7:30PM Luke Plunkett | Don’t need Rockstar’s Table Tennis for Wii. Played it on 360, enjoyed it, got rid of it. I’ve moved on. Need something new. Something like Arc System’s upcoming table tennis game Okiraku Ping Pong. Which I like the looks of! Firstly because it calls it ping pong. Secondly because that housewife character looks badass. Game’s due via Wii Ware in Japan in March. アークシステムワークスã¯Wiiウェアå‘ã‘ã«ã€ŽãŠãらãピンãƒãƒ³Wii(仮題)ã€ã‚’æä¾› [Famitsu] More »
Attack of the Killer Jubblies
7:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Kotaku After Dark readers, top heavy avatars incoming! PC game Oppai Slider 2 (yes, it’s a sequel!) lets players create massive jubblies and then seal the deed. As far as I can tell that’s about it. Here’s the game’s flow chart: Start, choose character, choose player, “slider” (boob customisation), sex scene, ending. There’s something refreshing about how blunt this game is. That, and something very, very naughty. There are way too many shameful patch-enabled clips of “unlocked boob limits” after the jump. Apparently far more freakazoid than the actual game stuff. There’s floor cleaning, too! Click at your own risk!! More »
