Wii Staying At $US 249 This Christmas

Not that any of you were seriously entertaining the prospect (I like to think you know better than that), but some people out there might have been under the assumption that the Wii was in line for a price-cut this holiday season. Not going to happen. Those types should listen to George Harrison more often, because he’s told Reuters: We’ll stay at $US 249 for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make.

Can’t fault that logic. You all want a cheaper Wii, you need to start convincing people to stop buying the damn things.

Simple 2000: The Japanese Hardware Chart

Sorry, PSP Slim. The jig’s up. It was a fun, topsy-turvy few weeks, but the DS was always going to claw its way back to the top once the Slim/Crisis Core hype died down, and that time was last week. It’s back at #1. Speaking of dead hype, look at those 360 sales; 5215 of them were sold during the week of Halo 3‘s release. This week? 1547. Time for Halo 4!

DS Lite: 87,445 PSP: 86,895 Wii: 20,704 PS3: 10,822 PS2: 10,446 Xbox 360: 1,547 GBA SP: 195 GameCube: 109 DS Phat: 90 GBM: 47

Super Metroid Hits PAL Virtual Consoles

Oh boy! To celebrate the release of Metroid Prime 3 in Nintendo’s lesser territories next week, Nintendo have gone ahead and put Super Metroid on the Virtual Console. I’d say that’s fair compensation for the game’s late release on PAL consoles, but then, we’re getting Super Metroid late as well so… I won’t. Ah well, it’s here now, and for 800 points you can go see what all the fuss is about.

Mass Effect Confirmed For November 20, Still 360 Exclusive

EA’s acquisition of BioWare and Pandemic has thrown a lot of questions into the air. The most pressing of which concern certain IPs. Like the Sonic RPG! What’s going on there? Even more importantly, what’s going on with Mass Effect? Well Microsoft have just announced that firstly, the move won’t be affecting the game’s 360 release. It’s still good to go for November 20. Secondly, they re-affirm the game’s 360 exclusivity. Of course, that’s just this one, but still, they’re clear. Mass Effect is a 360 exclusive.

Juiced 2 Xbox 360 Spray

Kotaku AU

Click the image for a bigger shot.

Always did love a custom paint job on a console, and this Juiced 2-themed one for the 360 is sharp. And sexy. And a bunch of other wonderful words that mean “it looks good”. Not so sure about the THQ logo (see below), but then, it’s only on one side so you could just put that facing against the wall.

The tipster who sent this in says the job was done by Australian Daniel Power at Kreative Power, and uses automotive pearls. Apparently it’s going to be demoed at an upcoming car show.

The less gorgeous (but still tasty) side after the jump.

On Death

To: Ash From: Crecente Re: An Unexpected Death

I’m really sorry to hear about the death in your family Ash. I know that can always be hard. It’s weird how people who don’t know you will just assume that unless the person who dies is your mother or wife or child that it isn’t really that big a deal. I went through a lot of that last year. Of course it isn’t true, there’s no way to really judge the deep bond that can form between family members.

A good friend of mine suggested I read The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying after my niece was murdered. It’s a great book, you should pick it up. Take care of yourself and your family, that’s much more important than any job.

Mario Kart Wii’s Got 12-Player Online Racing

Couldn’t sleep last night. Possums were having an orgy on my neighbours roof, so I decided to fix myself a cup of soup and watch the English dub of the Nintendo Fall Conference. Lucky I did! Because during his address, Satoru Iwata announces (at around the 37-minute mark) that the Wii version of Mario Kart will allow 12 players to compete online. Never been a better time than now to brush up on your Japanese, French and Spanish shit-talking skills.

A Crysis Movie?

Kotaku AU

In a interview with Norwegian-based site ITavisen, Crytek VP Faruk Yerli let slip that the developer is looking to make a movie based on its upcoming Direct3D 10 shooter.

Yes, we have hired writers from Hollywood, we have actually gotten many offers concerning a movie already, we can’t talk about it now, but we are hoping to make a Crysis movie soon.

It’s not really a declaration that things are a go, but if they’re keen to do it and the resources are there, what’s to stop them (apart from Uwe Boll)?

And before you check, no, there’s nothing on IMDB.

Box Shot Of 360 Arcade Pack

Opposable Thumbs’ trusty mole strikes again. Above is what will in all probability turn out to be one of MIcrosoft’s official hardware shots of the new 360 Arcade Pack, which will be replacing the current Core console whenever Microsoft get around to actually announcing it. From the pic we can see that the pack will ship with a wireless controller, 256MB memory card, some nasty composite cables and that two of the five included games will be Pac-Man & Uno. Would love to know what the other three are, Microsoft. But please, whenever you’re ready. Take your time on this. We’re in no rush.

Check My Golden Phantom Hourglass Box

I got this yesterday for pre-ordering Phantom Hourglass through EB Games here in Australia. It’s aluminium, feels indestructible, the logo on the top WILL NOT scratch off and it actually works as a carry-case. Pop it open and there’s space for both GBA and DS games, and it supports both versions of the DS (it comes with an extra layer of padding for those who aren’t as loyal to their original DS as I am). Isn’t it just gorgeous?
