What’s with the Narnia Hate?

11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Crecente From: Ashcraft RE: Circus Oh yeah, I can totally see you into the circus. Not sure why… Though, yeah, that makes sense. Embarrassing to say, but I haven’t ever really read any of the Narnia books. I remember seeing an animated version of one of them as a kid, I think. Not sure! I picked up a copy of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at my local bookstore. And since my local bookstore is pretty darn local, it doesn’t have any English books. So I got the Japanese translation, which is actually called Raion to Majo (”The Lion and the Witch”). Apparently, adding the Japanese word for wardrobe was too much of a mouthful. Bummer! That word is kinda important, I hear. Did a quick Wiki of the book. Seems there’s been a ton of criticism of it recently. For example, J.K. Rowling said, “”There comes a point where Susan, who was the older girl, is lost to Narnia because she becomes interested in lipstick. She’s become irreligious basically because she found sex. I have a big problem with that.” Writer Philip Pullman even said, “I hate the Narnia books… with a passion…” Awesome! Now, I really read it. Wonder how much will be lost in translation… The rest of my day was spent blogging and buying Willie Nelson albums. :) What you missed last night UK rushes to get 60GB PS3s Nintendo ditches Famicon, Super Famicom, Gameboy and more The Pikachu vagina Germany gets this. 11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Get a load of this tracklist! Good news is there’s no Rihanna, no Kanye West, no…whoever else is big with the kids these days. Not you either, I bet (”you” excludes all Kotaku-reading Bollywood fans). So from a sales perspective, this should be…interesting! * Aashiqui – Nazar Ke Samne * Askar – Jhalak Dikhla Ja * Chalte Chalte – Chalte Chalte * Chalte Chalte – Suno Na Suno Na * Chameli – Sajna Ve Sajna * Dil Chahta Hai – Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe * Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin – Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin * Don – The Chase Begins – Ye Mera Dil * Dus – Dus Bahane Karlke Le * Guru – Barso Re * Guru – Tere Bina * Ishq Hai Tumse – O Soniya * Kaal – Tauba Tauba * Kaal – Kaal Dhamaal * Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – Where’s the Party Tonite * Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – Mitwa * kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham – Bole Chudiyan * kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghamv – Suraj Hua Maddham * kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham – Say Shava Shava * Kal ho na ho – Maahi Ve * Kal ho na ho – It’s the time to disco * Kal ho na ho – Pretty Woman * Khakee – Dil Dooba * Kuch Kuch Hota hai – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai * Kuch Kuch Hota hai – Koi Mil Gaya * Kya Love Story Hai – It’s Rocking * Main Hoon Na – Main Hoon Na * Rang De Basanti – Rang De Basanti * Salaam-E-Ishq – Salaam-E-Ishq SingStar Bollywood on Friday [Eurogamer] More »

Pro Evo Wii Definitely Not For The Casual Gamer

9:30PM Luke Plunkett | That footage of Pro Evo 2008’s Wii control scheme was a little worrying. Looked a little kuh-raaaaaa-zy. Complicated, even. Turns out that’s the whole point, with game producer Akiyoshi Chosogabe saying: In the beginning I wondered if we would have to create a casual game, because the Wii is a more of a casual player’s machine. But I thought it would be boring if we create it as a more casual game. Therefore in the beginning I abandoned any plans to make this a more casual version and started to look for a brand new direction. That “new direction” is the Wii’s arrow-laden control and display system. Which you’re going to have to get used to, by the way, with no Classic Controller support planned for the game. New Beowulf Screens

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Nothing like a little classic literature with your graphic bloodhsed, eh? Here’s some new screens for Beowulf, the game based on the upcoming Hollywood movie and most definitely not the 1999 film starring Christopher “Highlander 4, Please?” Lambert.

The Voice of Haruhi

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Back when I worked in the movie business and hung out with movie stars, I met a voice actor at some random party. He did a ton of cartoon and commercial work, and he actually was doing very well financially. Originally, he intended to be an actor, but he didn’t have the look. He didn’t even have the weird guy character actor look. He was rather bland. But his voice? Golden. Because of that experience, my mental image of voice actors is: Balding dudes in Dockers and boat shoes. Well! In Japan, that is the furtherest thing from the truth. Just take a gander at 99.9 percent of voice actresses! Above, that’s Aya Hirano, pop singer and the the voice of Haruhi Suzumiya from monster hit anime The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Here she is promoting the upcoming Haruhi PS2 game and just being. Sadly, she’s not really into games, which means she loses nerd cred points. Lots of them, dammit. Oh well.
