Heavy Heart, Old Friend and One Cruddy Pumpkin

11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Crecente From: Bashcraft Geez, rough. I, as you, do not want to dwell on it, but yah, I really felt kinda depressed all day today, in a funk so to speak. Have a feeling you were too. And no, I’m not talking about losing at Halo 3. That was small potatoes. Water under the bridge, so hopefully everyone will move up and on. Good thing was chatting with Luke Smith! Probably there are some newer readers that don’t remember when he wrote for us. Luke Smith has the distinction of being the third person hired when we started expanding so many moons ago. I really enjoyed writing with him and always enjoy his conversation. He’s good people and a class act. Oh! So that picture up there? That’s our family pumpkin. It’s about the size of an apple and has stickers on it. Talk about depressing. New Skies Of Arcadia In Development?

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | There’s a new EGM on the stands. Which means more Quartermann rumours. There’s stuff about God of War 3 and Gears 2, but hey, it’d be a bigger surprise if they weren’t already in development. The rumour that got our attention involved something older. Something gentler. Apparently Sega are working on a new Skies of Arcadia game. Surely not. A Sega decision that didn’t break our hearts? I’ll believe it when I see it. The Pikachu Perfume

11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | All the Pokémon product crap, we could’ve sworn we caught it all. Guess not! This is apparently “Pokémon Perfume,” AKA greatest Pokémon branding ever. An actual online retailer selling this apparently very real eau du toilette. It’s made by Air Val International (’mkay) and goes for US$14.99. Me, I’d actually be game for smelling like Pikachu. Or better yet, telling people I smell like Pikachu. Pika Perfume [Shop.com via Poke Farm, Thanks Steve!] More »

Miyamoto Gets Award From the Economist

10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Last night at the Science Museum in London, Nintendo’s resident genius Shigeru Miyamoto received accolade Innovation Award for Consumer Goods from weekly magazine The Economist. According to site Games Industry, a statement read: He is the inventor of Nintendo and has been one of the key architects in the electronic gaming industry. Nope! That would been the Yamauchi family who founded Nintendo. Miyamoto has done other things for Nintendo. Really, really important things. Economist Award [Games Industry] More »

Probably The Best Mario Pumpkin We’ve Ever Seen

10:20PM Luke Plunkett | Probably? Maybe definitely. Kotakuite Batmundo sends this, which his girlfriend’s friend carved up last Halloween. He says: I am pretty impressed by all these pumpkins! Batmundo, we’re officially beyond impressed. We’re hooked. Somebody, please, help us. More »

Wrap Up, Win Dementium

10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | AWESOME!!! That’s Kotakuite Kyle’s entry in our Dress-Up-in-Bandages-Win-Dementium Contest. Kyle writes: Mummy Link may seem like an odd idea, but I just can’t imagine a better way to wrap yourself up. I suppose this is what happens when Link is caught by a Gibdos (the mummies in the Legend of Zelda games). About this contest: If you have toilet paper, you can enter. If you have band-aids, you can enter. Just cover yourself in bandage, and you are good to go. YES, IT’S THAT SIMPLE. The deadline for the contest is October 23rd. Send your entries to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom and put “Bandage Contest” in the subject line. And remember, you aren’t just playing for a DS game. Oh, no. You are playing for INTERNET FAME. Goodie goodie! Dementium [Official Site] More »

PS3 WipeOut Loses A Feature Or Three

9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Wipeout for the PS3 is looking tasty. Same old Wipeout, shinier look, a few new features. Actually, forget that stuff about the new features. FORGET IT. Sounds like some of those are being cut from the game, most likely so it can actually make its release date. Gone are things like community features, photo mode and race customisation. Does any of that matter? For us, no, it’s always been about the racing. For you? Depends on how much you enjoy your “Game 3.0″, but regardless, consider yourselves informed. Raise A Human On Your DS

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sadly, this isn’t Imagine: Babies. But it’s close! Behold, Crave’s Baby Pals, a DS game that sees you responsible for raising a junior member of the species. No mundane/necessary chore is left unattended: you must feed the child, dress the child, bathe the child, even try and entertain the child. This may have some practical use, it may resonate with a particular Nintendogs-owning demographic, we don’t know. All we do know is our hunting and gathering instincts find the whole concept a little frightening. Baby Pals: Nintendogs With Humans [Game|Life] More »

Retailing Slashing ASH

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Hironobu Sakaguchi may have a fabulous ’stache, but that doesn’t mean things are coming up gumdrops! Oh sure, the Final Fantasy creator has had a modest hit with Blue Dragon, but nothing like his previous glories. But, maybe that’s because he’s made an Xbox 360 game? Not so popular in Japan. Then again, maybe not! His latest effort, DS title A.S.H. Archaic Sealed Heat hasn’t exactly set Japan on fire — even with solid Famitsu scores! The game originally retailed for ¥5,800 ($US 50) when it launched earlier this month, but shops like Super Potato and Sofmap are already slashing prices. Perhaps that rotten title has something to do with it? ASH At Low Prices [Ota Road] More »

No Official Killzone Figures? Make Your Own

7:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sure at least some of you remember Jin Saotome’s badass custom Halo 3 figure. It was great. Here, then, is his latest work, a custom Helghast figure from the Killzone universe. Doesn’t quite have the cultural impact (or sales success) as the Chief, but then, the Chief doesn’t look this mean either. Love your work, Jin. Be a dear and keep ‘em coming.
