E For All Ends Early With Blackout

5:00PM Michael McWhertor | At approximatley 7:10 PM on Friday evening, the E For All expo came to a close, abruptly and unintentionally. While the gathered masses, quite thin at this late hour, were still busying themselves watching Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel play Quake IV, enjoying The Orange Box and Super Mario Galaxy, they were surprised to see… blackness. A power outage on the right half of South Hall, encompassing the Nintendo and EA booths—arguably two-thirds of the show—made the last hour of the show a dark affair. Staff escorted gamers out for their own safety, largely wrapping up the show for the night. It’s not the first time this has happened at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Multiple E3s had power failures, resulting in blazing hot temperatures and very boring booths. This one just happened to be surprisingly timely. More »

Dear EA, We’re Suing Your Arse

4:30PM Michael McWhertor | Looks like someone at the EA marketing department thought they’d have a laugh and swipe the hard work of Gawker Media’s crack design team. Sorry, EA, but we have a patent (pending) on viciously nauseating colour schemes. You’ll be hearing from our lawyers. We’re obviously willing to settle for nine complimentary copies of The Simpsons Game, including one for the Kotaku archives, but might play hardball for a tenth. Seriously, not funny. We’re all smoldering with generic rage right now. And by smoldering with generic rage, I mean giddy and thrilled that someone at EA added us to The Simpsons Game parody target list. Moetaku [EA - thanks, Nathan!] More »

Cannibal Corpse Frontman Talks World Of Warcraft

3:30PM Luke Plunkett | Well of course a guy with a name like Corpsegrinder was going to be a big ol’ nerd. Especially of the variety that plays World of Warcraft with his bandmates. And genuinely hates the Alliance with all his might. More »

Freakazoid Fake Sonic

3:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Ack! That Sonic impostor isn’t just horrible, but HORRIBLE and FREAKY. Located in a Chinese department store by a gentleman who said: I recently visited a friend in China when I spotted this distressingly familiar ‘cat’ in a department store, inexplicably facing the shoe section. Wonder if this poser could beat Mario in an Olympic race, though… We discovered this shocking bit of non-news over at the delightful UK:R, which, should you care, won “Best Blog” at Games Media Awards. Congrats! Fake Sonic [UK:R] More »

Res 4 Figures, Now With Cute Little Real Clothes

2:30PM Luke Plunkett | Pretty sure these were at TGS, but they were locked away in a glass box behind a 3-hour line of rabid Japanese Capcom fanboys. Which made it a little hard to get a good look at them. This, this is much easier. This is Hot Toys Video Game Masterpiece Series’ take on Res 4. There’s two Leons (regular & S.T.A.R. outfit), two Krausers (regular & freaky bug alien) and a sackhead chainsaw guy. No word yet on price or Western release, but they’re all 12-inch figures, come with a ton of accessories and those dainty little button-up shirts are just to die for. THE iDOLM@STER Clumps to Beautiful Katamari

2:00PM Brian Ashcraft | I went through a phrase, a phase in which I was doing posts on popstar sim THE iDOLM@STER — sometimes every day. I’ve slowed down and only to only once or twice a month. And with that, I bring you this month’s iDOLM@STER post… Katamari is known for its catchy tunes. Beautiful Katamari should be no exception! The Bandai Namco’s current Xbox 360 exclusive features a sugary sweet song from another Bandai Namco Xbox 360 exclusive, THE iDOLM@STER. Above, that’s it in-game in the Japanese version. No reason to doubt its in the English-language one. Can anyone confirm this? Hit the jump for the song and idols clumping together. More »

Google Dev Team Go A Little Mario Crazy

1:40PM Luke Plunkett | Google love them some googling. Searching, mapping, earthing, mailing, love all that too. That’s so much love you’d think they wouldn’t have room for any more love, right? Wrong. There’s always room for Mario love. Recently the meta-corporation ran a little competition, let its teams decorate their office spaces. So for the Dev Ops team, out came the wall-to-wall Mario decorations, and in come the plaudits and admiration from office-working Nintendo fans the world over. Hit the link for more shots. Alien Hominid Pumpkin

1:20PM Luke Plunkett | By our reckoning, there’s still around a week-and-a-half until Halloween. Which gives you all plenty of time to get with the LeChuck, Sid Meier & TCS Tiger pumpkins we’re still waiting on. Don’t know if there’s enough time to beat this Alien Hominid job from Callmesteam, though, who writes: My regret is that it covered too much pumpkin, making it difficult to get a nice, clear shot of the whole character… Regret nothing. It looks great! More »

Solo Rock Band Instruments Are Coming, They’re Coming

12:20PM Luke Plunkett | To recap, you’ll only be able to buy Rock Band this Christmas in one of two ways. Either as the $US 159/$US 169 bundle (PS2/current-gen), or as a standalone piece of software. No individual instruments. How soon, then, can Americans expect individual instruments? Harmonix Boss Alex Rigopolous: The highest priority is to make sure that as many people as possible can have the multi-instrument band experience this holiday. We are working diligently to get individual instruments into the channel as soon as humanly possible and we have a huge effort in place to make this happen. You bet they do! That huge effort basically involves delaying the game in Europe and Australia until next year in order to meet American demand. So if you’re worried you can’t get an individual drum kit, shut your wordhole. Bundle or no bundle, at least you’re getting it this Christmas.
