The internet can be a cold, impersonal place. It’s easy, very easy, to forget that there is another person on the other side of that email, IM, comment or post. And that that person has a life outside the internet, friends, family and interests. During the night, I put up this demographics survey post and asked readers to provide info about themselves in the comments. It’s fascinating. Really, really interesting as a lot of our readers opened up and offered a peek into their lives. Makes the site feel personal, which is something I know we’ve always felt was important. Big thanks to the readers for this.

Look, we know PC-to-console RTS ports are getting popular. But Supreme Commander? Really? Shit was pretty complex. That doesn’t matter to creator Chris Taylor, though. Not at ALL. He’s told Pro-G games that they’re already working on a console port of the title, and that while they’re not set on a system the 360 is looking the most likely destination (though a PS3 version is “not out of the question”). Wii owners, don’t bother. Console version of Supreme Commander in development [Pro-G] More »
Hey, those not only spell out “Kotaku,” they also can FLY. Yes, those are paper airplanes from Kotakuite Louis. Neato! Let’s bring latecomers up to speed: We’re doing a paper airplane contest for Ace Combat 6. We’ve got a bundle of goodies that includes Ace Combat 6, glossy, photo-quality screenshots autographed by the game’s producer and director, Ace Combat 6 Xbox 360 faceplates and the AC6 Flightstick set. To win this bundle you’ve gotta fold, cut, glue bits of paper together in hopes of creating a truly gnarly paper jet plane. They don’t have to actually fly, but hey, if they do, that’s a major plus. Be sure to snap a pic of your creation with something that says “Kotaku” and send it to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom. Add “Ace Combat 6 Contest” to your subject line. Deadline is October 25th. More »
Kotakuite kumajoe and his pal atomicboyx raise a valid point in regards to pumpkin-carving character selection: I got tired of videogame heroes on vegetables so me (kumajoe) and my friend atomicboyx did a twosome of mean guys from nintendo.
They’re right. Too many good guys, not enough bad guys. Looking at how nice these are, we need more bad guys. Get to it. But hurry! Hallow’s Eve is but a week away. More »
Breath a sigh of relief. For those times when your on the go and your portable’s battery dies, there’s Charger Bracelet. Strap this contraption to your wrist and recharge you PSP or DS with one of its adaptator cables. The bracelet has an on/off switch so you can control the flow of juice, and the strap can extend to 2 and a half feet. Recharge the bracelet via personal computer. Good product if you don’t mind looking like a goober. A total goober, that is. Charger Bracelet [Thanko via Gizmodo Japan] More »
Seems our favourite pastime’s been JACKED. As part of the London Games Festival, GI.biz are putting together an exhibition of ten portraits, aimed at showcasing the best over-sized head shots (ie GIANT FACE breeding grounds) in the business. My personal favourite is Peter Moore’s, if only because it looks like the photographer just woke him up from a pleasant Sunday afternoon nap. The exhibition’s open on October 23 & 24, hit the link for more details. Oh, and anyone going, all close-up shots to tipsATkotakuDOTcom, thanks. Faces of the Games Industry More »
Notice how so many games are going cross platform? What if you could run your PS3 games on your Xbox 360 and vice versa? That would end so many petty flame wars and futile discussions. Gamers could talk about games and not consoles. What’s more, consumers could purchase hardware based on price and quality — like with DVD players. This is the monotone console future Silicon Knights’ honcho Denis Dyack sees. In an article he penned for Official Xbox Magazine, Dyack lays out his vision:
Imagine a unified platform — one console for all gamers — that would bring a massive paradigm shift to the games industry, where games would become better in quality, cheaper, and more widely available. Sound good? It can happen. Better yet, it’s inevitable. It will happen… A one-console future is a future I think we can’t avoid – and thankfully, it’s a future where everyone would win.
Why’s that, Denis? More »
The Arcade Pack’s not just for North America. It’s for Europe, too, where it’ll be launching this Friday (October 26) for £200/€279. Same pack, same games, same deal, just…European. PAL-compliant, even. Press release follows.
While Halo DS wasn’t “real,” the game wasn’t some figment of our imagination. Now that Bungie has freed itself from Microsoft’s clutches, the developer must be ready to spread its wings. And since Nintendo of America is so darn close, there’s a partnership just waiting to happen, right? Erm, no, says Nintendo’s Perrin Kaplan. Her take on a possible relationship with the Halo studio:
We don’t have any plans to reach out to them at this juncture. No, Nintendo’s got it’s hands full… I think it comes down to innovation and creativity. I think they [Bungie]would have to present what it is their idea would be… You know, we love all good innovative companies but we don’t have any plans on the table right now with Bungie.
Sure, Perrin’s on her way out and all, but right now, no plans. Next year? Who knows! Kaplan Interview [Multiplayer Blog] More »
