2:18PM Brian Ashcraft | Sony Pleading to Keep Third Parties on PS3 Comment by -EDGE- Nominated by treize You know every time I read something like this, no matter the console my heart dies a little bit. I am a gamer, I have been for most of my natural life. Seeing any one of these companies fail at something I love, sucks…SEGA anyone (among others). I love games, and the people and companies who make it possible for me to enjoy them. This is not to say I like any of their respective corporate politics or general BS. But at the end of the day no matter how old I get, I will always be that kid who stared in amazement the first time I realised a story and art was no longer confined to film and books. That art could reach out and be experienced in, and on a whole new level. You may think I’m a sap or am waxing poetic lamenting a loss that has not happened. And in a way I am…somehow we the “hardcore” gamers became so jaded that we have missed the forest for the trees. /Sorry for the rant http://media.kotaku.com.au/mt/games/2007/10/new_wii.gift_channel_but_no_pr.html Comment by hotblack Not cutting the price on the Wii itself is understandable. Adding the gift feature for the Shop Channel, while cool, is frankly a joke when there are still outstanding problems with the VC: - Sort out the various PAL release issues - Lower the cost of Wii Points outside of the US and Japan - Allow the exact amount of points needed for a purchase to be paid for - Add a solution for playing downloaded content from SD cards or another storage medium - Introduce the long awaited Star Points/Wii Points conversion - Add a mechanism for moving games between consoles First rule of software development, fix outstanding issues before trying to add features. No More Heroes Pre-Order Pressie
1:40PM Luke Plunkett | Not that fans will need any further encouragement to purchase their copy of Grasshopper’s No More Heroes in advance, but let’s just say they did. What could convince them to part with cash in the turbulent days preceding a title’s release? An adorable lightsaber Beam Sword replica keychain, that’s what. Yes, now your keyring can be as badass as Travis Touchdown’s. Only catch? It’s a Japan-only deal for now, we’ll have to see if Westerners get the same deal when the game’s released early next year. Rock Band Final Track List Finalised, Finally
1:00PM Michael McWhertor | The final list of Rock Band tracks—minus local and underground acts that Harmonix staffers are friends with—has been revealed by IGN. The list doesn’t include the downloadable tracks that are promised to appear weekly, but does include some new jams from Sweet, The Outlaws, Iron Maiden and Aerosmith. Unfortunately, track reveals from The Killers and Fall Out Boy sour the experience of learning that a handful of classic rock mainstays are joining the line-up. It’s all a matter of preference, though, as I’m sure some of you will be groaning at the percentage of Southern rock you’ll be forced to play through. Personally, I’m pumped for the one good New Pornographers song making an appearance and salivating over the prospect of playing through my favourite Boston song of all time. I’m going to be giving so much thanks next month, it should be illegal. Rock Band: The Complete Licensed Track List [IGN] More »Unreal Tournament III Single Player Trailer
12:30PM Michael McWhertor | Wait, there’s a single player mode in Unreal Tournament III? Consider it (good) news to me. Apparently, the single player campaign sees you, as a big dude with a big neck carrying a big gun, taking down the Necris High Inquisitor Akasha by less than diplomatic means. I expect sexy results. With club sauce. More »T-Minus Seven Days
12:05PM Brian Crecente | To: Ash From: Crecente Re: No Pumpkin. I Repeat NO PUMPKIN!!!! I leave for Australia a week from tomorrow and I can’t believe how insanely busy I am. I’m staring, right now, at a laundry list of things I need to do before I leave and none of it includes minor things like packing or prepping the house for our house sitter. It’s going to be a relief, next weekend, when I pass the point of no return and I can no longer worry about what I have or haven’t wrapped up, because it will just be too dang late. Among the many things I’ve been doing has been trying to work through as many games as possible so I can review them for the Rocky, Variety, here, to name a few. Last night I was delighted to finally beat Guitar Hero III and this morning I played some online coop of SOCOM Tactical Strike on the PSP. Turns out it’s quite fun. Marketplace Adds Blue Dragon DLC, Spider-Man 3 PS3 Exclusive Content
11:40AM Michael McWhertor | A smattering of new additions to the Xbox Live Marketplace breathes some new life into older Xbox 360 games Blue Dragon and Spider-Man 3. The latter is enhanced by the downloadable “New Goblin,” formerly a PlayStation 3 exclusive feature but now available to whomever is willing to shell out 240 Microsoft Points. You’ll still have to defeat him in-game to add him to the unlockable character list, but think of the bragging right(s)! Also available is the “6 Treasures” pack for Mistwalker’s Blue Dragon. For the low, low price of 200 Microsoft Points, you’ll get a half-dozen new items that will boost your stats and give you access to new abilities. The specific details on each are after the jump. Cancelling Manhunt 2 “Never” An Option, Says Producer
11:20AM Michael McWhertor | When the ESRB passed judgment on Manhunt 2, painting a bright red AO on its bosom, dooming it to release uncertainty, the team at Rockstar Games never considered scrapping the project, says producer Jeronimo Barrera. In a newly published interview with Gamespot, he responds that “The challenge became how we were going to get the game out with the vision and story intact. The problem was that we didn’t really get any direction. You don’t get a list from the ESRB.” That said, Barrera says the Rockstar gang is “happy with the outcome.” Based on the recently released videos of some of the more gruesome executions, the end result doesn’t look that bad, considering the concessions that were made at the last minute. Barrera tells Gamespot that the Manhunt 2 development team was “floored” when the ESRB rating was issued, saying they “still believe that the original submission was well within the bounds of an M rating.” We’ll know first hand just how disgusting and demoralizing Manhunt 2 is when it’s released next week. Anyone out there picking it up? I was a big fan of the original and plan on snagging the PlayStation 2 version ASAP. Manhunt 2 Producer Q&A [Gamespot] More »
