Ghostbusters II Isn’t So Good Really
11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Ian From: Bashcraft RE: Airport, Credit, Treacle Whew. Been going through the contest, and I started sending out emails to those who were finalists. These contests really kill me! Watched Ghostbusters II today. Saw it when I was a kid in the theater, and I remember liking it. But like some things you have fond childhood memories, the film doesn’t hold up. (Wonder how the cartoon holds up… Speaking of which, Matt Alt has neat post up on Shinji Aramaki.) Man, they really dropped the ball — too much slime. Also, why is Janine dating Louis? That makes no sense. She should be with Egon. And where’s that Pecker guy? The first one is so so so great. Why, why? I’m just going to pretend the second one doesn’t exist. And they want to make a third? Please no. Supreme Commander Confirmed For 360
11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Been a few weeks now since Chris Taylor lost control and spilled the beans that Supreme Commander would be turning up on a console. Thing is, back then, we didn’t know which console. Do now. It’ll be appearing on the 360 sometime early next year, and will feature a new HUD and control scheme, new units, “updated” maps and a whole boatload of multiplayer options for XBL play. Grand. Shokotan Looks For Akiba’s King Nerd
11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | That’s admitted cat-head-swallower-turned-mainstream-idol Shoko Nakagawa finding bigger nerds than her! She encounters some dude playing Taiko no Tatsujin blindfolded, nerd group dancers and another dude (with no teeth) cosplaying as anime character Haruhi Suzumiya. She then dresses up as a life-sized Evangelion figurine. None of the passer-byers think that, you know, a real human being would actually do that. A chubby guy finally recognises her. Good for him! He’s even dressed as his own self-created character called A-Hero (Akihabara Hero) and protects the Akiba “holy land” by walking around from store-to-store with other nerds. He’s even got his own slogan and poses. Uh-huh yep yep. Shokotan Searches [Japan Sugoi] More »
Konami Says This Gen Will be Totally Fair
10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Last generation was all about the PlayStation 2. (This generation is only sorta about the PS2, but w/e.) Sony isn’t dominating like in year’s past. Nintendo’s come back from the dead and is posting very strong, early numbers. Meanwhile, Microsoft keeps forging ahead. Is it too early to call this gen’s winner? Has the playing field leveled? Whenever I have questions like this, I wonder what Konami thinks. A statement from the company that Metal Gear and Pro Evolution Soccer built had these insights to offer: Previously, a single home gaming platform [PS2] was the market leader worldwide, but that pattern has changed… Whichever platform best caters to users’ preferences in a particular country or region, in terms of the games available to be played on it, is now the one that will dominate the local market. Does that mean Konami is the new Capcom? PS3 exclusive MGS4 points to no. For now at least. Konami Talks This Gen [CVG] More »
Lovely Mario Painting
10:20PM Luke Plunkett | You hear Nintendo fans speak in reverent tones of Mario’s transition from 2D to 3D. Hushed tones, even. But while Mario 64 is great – a classic, even – it’s not beautiful. Not like this. Portrait Of A Plumber Entering The Third Dimension [Rob's Sketchbook, thanks Matt!] More »Here’s How It’s Gonna Go Down…
10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | The contest is closed to entries. All that’s left is to pick some finalists and have them battle it out in a bloody quick draw death match. Should be fun! Right up there, that’s the semi-finalists. There were a lot of entries in the contest and not every one was correct. Here’s how it’s going to go down: Mini-Bash is going to select 13 finalists from that Spider-Man bowl. Those 13 finalists will then be sent emails, asking for their Kotaku commenter names. Don’t have a comment account as of yesterday? Though luck, you’ll be disqualified. We were serious about not giving this computer away to some random person. Those 13 finalists will have exactly 15 hours to respond to our email. Failing to do so will result in disqualification. More »

9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Well, you seemed to enjoy them last week, so we’ll stick with the individual format charts. PS3 Pro Evo Busted, Konami Offering Advice
8:45PM Luke Plunkett | I’ve played Pro Evo 2008 on both 360 and PS3. On 360? Sports game of the year. It’s seven-and-a-half shades of fantastic. On PS3? Argh. Ungh. Argh! Awful. The game locks up. The framerate at times crawls into single-digits. Online play is busted. In short, it’s a piece of crap. Konami surely knew this before it shipped, and are now being forced to address it after it’s shipped, pledging that all hands are on deck working on a patch. Until then? They’re offering some extremely useful advice to PS3 owners suffering from poor framerates. Konami Digital Entertainment is aware that some players of PES2008 are experiencing “stuttering” by their machine when playing on PS3. (This does not occur on other formats). After checking the matter we have found that the problem is primarily taking place where the user is not playing the game in high definition. The solution to this problem is to play the game on an HD TV (high definition screen). Easy. Problem solved. Just go buy a new TV. Thanks Konami! PES 2008 FAQ – All systems [Konami] More »
