Dispensing Medicine Like Candy

11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Ian From: Bashcraft RE: Train Cramming Had to spend part of the day at the doctor’s with Mini Bash. Worse thing about pre-school is the festering of sickness that goes on there. As soon as the kids get over one cold, there’s another one that goes around. The kid is fine, and the doctor gave him some medicine. The doctors always give medicine here. ALWAYS. Makes me kinda worried, ’cause I don’t think it’s all that good. I’ve heard that the doctors here have deals with pharmaceutical companies, but I’m not sure on the details. Funny story: (Well, not *that* funny) When Mrs. Bashcraft was in the hospital pregnant, everyday the nurses served her a pot of green tea. Green tea is very high in caffeine, and that’s no good for a foetus. When I pointed this out, everyone looked at me like I was from space! Gonna crash. Long day. Tomorrow, off to Tokyo. Again. *sigh* What you missed last night • Even if this sucks, it won’t suck. Zombies never suck. What’s In PGR4’s Title Update?

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | PGR4 is getting a title update tomorrow. What’s inside? Oh, just four new multiplayer tournaments. Daily Tournaments run between Monday and Friday, and are open to the fastest 640 players. Super Saturdays run on…Saturdays, and are open to the fastest 2560 qualifiers. Simulation Sundays run on Shabbas, and are a little tougher (day of rest my ass): you can only use the in-car view, and you can only drive manual. Only 64 players can qualify for these. Finally, the Global Cup will be run twice a month, each run taking two weeks to complete. Fastest 512 qualify for this, with the winners having their gamertags displayed on PGRNations. And that’s it. No cash or prizes, you’re going to have to make do with the sweet taste of victory and/or the salty taste of your opponents tears. [Gamerscore Press Release] More »

Retailer Strikes Up Dragon Quest IV Shortage Fears

10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Let’s cut to the chase. Square Enix is releasing its Dragon Quest IV DS remake, and this notice popped up at retailer Tsutaya: 11/22 Sale Date Regarding DS Dragon Quest IV Since the shipment is limited, it is difficult to guarantee purchase of the game. Because of that, there is a chance customers who haven’t pre-reserved the game will not receive a copy. There is a limited number of pre-reserves, so please pre-reserve as soon as possible. Wonder if this is a sales ploy or if there is truly a shortage. Square Enix probably wants as many units out there on drop date as possible. Dragon Quest IV Shortage? [My Game News Flash] More »

Interplay IP Resurrection Plans: Perfect

10:20PM Luke Plunkett | The news yesterday that Interplay were looking to farm out some of their IPS for updates/sequels was good news. As a publisher, Interplay oversaw some pretty snazzy games before their finances went all pear-shaped. Games like Earthworm Jim. And MDK. And Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. And (hold me) Descent. Turns out those four games were named in an SEC filing detailing the company’s quarterly financial results. Specifically. Ladies and gentlemen, you may turn over your papers and begin the excitement test…now. Interplay SEC Filing [SEC, via 360 Fanboy] More »

Finishing UTIII PS3, Take a Break, Talk to Microsoft

10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Epic Games is busy and has to prioritise. Priority number one? Getting that PS3 version of Unreal Tournament III shipshape. Where does that leave the Xbox 360 version? Nowhere near done — blame the mods. Epic’s Mark Rein explains: The PS3 is an open system, and they embrace user-created content. But there isn’t really a way to do that on the 360… So our job, when we finish the PS3 version, and we’ve taken a little break, is to sit down with Microsoft and to figure out how we can do mods on their system. To recap: The PS3 version has been pushed back to possibly 2008, the Xbox 360 version isn’t anywhere near release and the PC version, well, that’s on track for November 23rd. PS3 Owners Waiting for Games (EA Games, Apparently)

9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Sony has the hardware. Consumers can totally get that. And the games? It has a couple must-haves, but not a massive library yet. EA’s VP for Ireland and the UK Keith Ramsdale points out that PS3 owners are a patient lot. They are waiting, poised like a lion, ready to pounce on quality games. Quality EA games. Keith Ramsdale, the floor is yours: If you look at FIFA 08, on its first weekend the PS3 numbers were 75 percent of the Xbox 360 numbers, despite the 360 having a massively higher install base. That’s not that the 360 has underperformed, not for a moment. That’s because the appetite for a quality game on the PS3 is there and maybe FIFA is the first game to come and show where the quality is. I think PS3 consumers are waiting for the right game and they want to see the quality. Really? We like FIFA and all, but somehow his argument seems flawed. Neo Geo VC Games To Include New Difficulty Settings

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Brandon Sheffield’s got an innocent-looking little interview up on Gamasutra with unknown Japanese team D4. You don’t know who they are, we don’t know who they are: turns out they’re responsible for transferring all the old Neo Geo games so that they work on the Virtual Console. Kinda interesting! More interesting is this comment from their project manager Shinobu Shimizu: We will be including certain features…such as difficulty settings, to make difficult titles, like Magician Lord, more user friendly for players at home. Very interesting! Some of those old Neo Geo games, they were ass-kickers, so it’s nice to see they’re thinking of helping the average man out by toning the whole thing down. Osaka Cops Protect, Serve, Tamagotchi

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Yes, Tamagotchi has a couple video games under its belt. There’s merchandising, too! You’d think with all that, Bandai Namco wouldn’t have to resort to things like, I dunno, enlisting Osaka cops to promote its upcoming anime Appearing on Film: Tamagotchi — Lost in Space. The Osaka police will offer movie ticket discounts to individuals who subscribe to a crime info email list. There is one word for this and that word is “kooky.” Bandai Police [Variety via AnimeNewsNetwork] [Image] More »
