Rock Band Drums Work On PC
3:30PM Luke Plunkett | Or, they do once you follow dxprog’s how-to instructions. And then? Oh, man, as you can see above, you can proceed to rock your own socks off as you go all Dave Lombardo/Animal on your Windows controller setup screen. This one goes straight in the “Merely Promising Until We Get A Freeware Drum Hero” folder on my heart’s desktop. Rock Band drums on Windows [dxprog, via Rock, Paper, Shotgun] More »
We Wipe Our Arse With No More Heroes
2:30PM Luke Plunkett | Or we would, had Kotaku Heavy Industries been attending the game’s Japanese launch party instead of alternatively stuffing our faces with turkey or rocking out on Rock Band. See, not only did Yasuhiro Wada turn up for some free drinks and a go on the final build of the game, but all attendees were given a parting gift. Ellen Does Human Tetris. So Lame.
2:00PM Brian Ashcraft | To review: It started with a Japanese TV program. They called it “human Tetris,” and it was funny. Then came a Big Brother and a Nadie es Perfecto rip-off. So not funny. Another copycat surfaced, then time with butt cheeks. Likewise, not funny! And then, after all this, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres decided to rework “human Tetris” as “Thru The Wall” and include money, screaming and Mariah Carey. I haven’t seen American TV in a while. Is it always this pedantic? Thanks, Chesu! More »
Carmack And Nintendo, B.F.F.
1:40PM Luke Plunkett | John Carmack used to hate Nintendo. With a fire that burned wildly inside of him. Some may say it’s because Nintendo (was rumoured to have) completely ignored his idea for a Mario port on the PC. Carmack says otherwise: We ignored Nintendo for a long time for a number of fairly good reasons — we hated dealing with them 10 years ago, as they always lagged behind the front runners in terms of raw technology… now we’re branching out onto lower-end platforms, so now its an interesting platform for us to be looking at. Six months from now, when our current projects are done, we have all sorts of options we’re focusing on. Ah well. Whatever the reason, least they’re all chummy now! Interesting he talks about “options” there, too. If those “options” don’t include either an official Doom or Quake on the DS I’ll eat your monkey’s uncle’s hat. 1:20PM Luke Plunkett | It’s a nice touch, having a little icon next to every DS game when you boot up the handheld’s menu. Like the little animations you got to go along with your PS2 save games. Very cute. In honour of this nicety, GAFfer Stumpokapow has put together a collage collecting 1250 of the 32×32 pics. It’s not every DS game, but if you’re more concerned with completism than how great the picture is, you’re very much missing the point. Full pic is at the link below. Konami “Not Set Up” For Multi-Platform Development
12:20PM Luke Plunkett | Pro Evo 2008 is brilliant. Can’t stop playing it! But then, I have it on 360. Konami’s PS3 port wasn’t so hot. Indeed, it was awful. So awful that it’s forced a rethink of how they do things over there, with series boss Seabass Takatsuka admitting they’re a little behind the times: As a developer, we’ve worked the same way since the days of the SNES. We’re simply not set up for multi-platform development. Honesty is the best policy, Seabass. He promises that next year’s version will be much better, as they’re taking the game “back to the drawing board” to make sure gamers of a particular format don’t get the shaft ever again. 12:00PM Simon Carless | To: Ash From: Simon Well, thanks to your good self, Right Admiral Crecente, and the rest of the Kotaku kru for making me feel welcome here this week during my Thanksgiving-filled guest spot. As promised, I pointed out weird/cool indie games, and talked to developers, and even delved into video game history during my stint as Guest Editor – and hopefully it brought something different to the table. Now I’m wandering off back to our Gamasutra/Game Developer editor blog Game Set Watch, where I actually got a guest blogger, Schadenfreude Interactive’s ‘greatest living German game programmer’ Karsden Mörderhäschen, to guest in my absence – how complicated! Of course, the creator of such classic games as Accordion Hero and ‘karaoke survival horror game’ Nachtmusik has been causing havoc, with marzipan mascot controversy just one of the tragedies that await me on my return. But hey, them’s the breaks. Have a great weekend! 11:30AM Michael McWhertor | I’ll admit that it’s sometimes hard to see the graphical differences between Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii and Super Mario Sunshine for the Gamecube, even in the HD version of the above clip. Obviously, there are bits in Galaxy that outshine it’s predecessor in the visuals department, but it’s hard not to look controlling FLUDD in Sunshine and not see a boiling red rage where gameplay is supposed to be. I suppose I’m more surprised that the Wii iteration wasn’t as much of a graphical leap as I’d thought it was. Good thing graphics nitpickery loses out to gameplay every time. More »
