GAME/Gamestation Merger Given The Green Light
11:30PM Luke Plunkett | Earlier This Year, two of Britain’s largest specialist games retailers, GAME and Gamestation, merged. It was a big deal. So big, in fact, it attracted the attention of the British Office of Fair Trading, who referred the takeover to the Competitions Commission. They were expected to have made a decision on the legality (under rules governing industry monopolies) of the move by January, but have already weighed it all up and come to a “provisional clearance”, which all but ensures the move will go ahead. 11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Dead or Alive isn’t only about fighting. Oh, no. It’s about other things as well. Things like boobs and boob physics. There’s no dead to beat around the bush, we know this, you know this and more importantly Banpresto knows this. An upcoming prize in Banpresto arcade redemption games, Dead or Alive Extreme 2 jubblie mugs will be available in Japanese arcades. Kasumi, Ayane and Hitomi are representative. Xbox Boss Talks Holiday Smack
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Don Mattrick? Who the fuck is Don Mattrick? Oh, yeah, he’s Peter Moore’s replacement. Haven’t heard squat from him since he took over nearly six months ago. Turns out that, contrary to our long-held belief, guy’s actually got something to say, and what better way to kick things off than to get into a little holiday chest-beating? On a price-per-value basis, I think we win…relative to Sony and Nintendo. Of course, I’m biased, given the role that I’m in, but if I really think about it using my consumer instincts and the experience that I’ve had, this is the best blend of performance, price, online and games – by far. Well, it took you long enough, Don, but for a debut effort we’ve seen worse. Xbox boss confident of holiday win [MSNBC] More »
Hey, Thailand Has Erotic Games Too
9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Not sure why we’ve never thought about erotic games from Thailand, but we just haven’t. We’ve been busy. StudioGU’s Angel’s Tale should serve as proof that there is a thriving Thai ero game industry complete with freakazoid eyes. Hit the jump for the game’s trailer. Be warned: It’s cheesy. More »
King Of Games’ Downright Classy NiGHTS Shirt
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | What happens when our dear friends at King of Games release a new shirt? And not just a new shirt, but one from Sega’s “Get Ready” series? We get excited. Hearts flutter, hands reach subconsciously towards wallets. In this case Sega’s NiGHTS is the muse, and the design is crisp, clean and striking (especially in black). Those familiar with the KoG ordering process, proceed to the starter’s blocks. Those not, bring money and a comfortable pair of online-shopping athletic shoes. [King of Games] More »
Kinnear of Kong
8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | The King of Kong was so good that it deserves a Hollywood remake. Or something. So, if we were casting the role of school teacher challenger Steve Wiebe who tries making a go at arcade hero Billy Mitchell’s Donkey Kong record, we’d say Greg Kinnear would make a fine choice. But what does Greg Kinnear think? I saw that documentary. I loved it. I thought it was a very cool documentary. If they make that into a movie…I wouldn’t want to play Kong. So that guy [Wiebe] would be better. So that just leaves casting Billy Mitchell. Suggestions welcomed. Kinnear in Kong [Multiplayer] More »
New PSN Cards Hit Japan On December 13
7:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sony have today announced the imminent release of their PlayStation Network Cards (these are new, not the already-released “tickets”), which will be let loose on Japan on December 13. Arriving in two flavours, one for ¥3000 and one for ¥5000, they’ll carry a 12-digit number on the back which users will input into their PSN wallets. Just like the 360’s and Wii’s cards, then, if that makes things easier. All that’s left is to start sacrificing farm animals in the hope these can be imported to work on dummy, foreign Japanese PSN accounts. [Game Watch] More »
