Intel Approaching Platform Holders About Hands-Free Consoles

Intel missed out on the current round of consoles, with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all opting to use IBM chips in their machines. With both eyes on the future, then, Intel have been approaching unspecified console manufacturers to see if they’re interested in a new chip of theirs. It can perform 1 trillion calculations per second, and Intel are selling it on its ability to quickly process the data gained from motion-sensing cameras. Justin Rattner, Intel’s chief technology officer: We imagine some future generation of [Nintendo's]Wii won’t have hand controllers. You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you’re playing tennis.

Proof, if ever proof was needed, that it’s never too early to start thinking about the next generation of consoles.

PS Store Cards *Finally* Heading To Retail

Oh, no, Sony, it’s OK. Nobody really minded having to wait over a year until they could buy stuff online without a credit card. Really, it’s OK. So the fact that you’re sending select members of the press pre-purchase PS Store cards, which indicates that their retail release is imminent, won’t be that big a deal to anyone. Well, it might to youngsters without a credit card, those wary of online purchases or international users who want to buy stuff from the US PS Store, but there can’t be many of those, can there?

Jaffe Says God Of War Movie Still Real, “Looking STRONG”

Those were his caps, not mine. Posting on his blog, David Jaffe drops the news that he’s recently met with the producer of the God of War movie. You did know they’re making a God of War movie, didn’t you? It’s OK if you forgot, it’s not like we’ve been inundated with news on the project. Though, Jaffe confirming the project’s still alive after 2.5 years of bupkis is certainly news: . ..had a good lunch with the producer of the GOD OF WAR movie a few weeks ago. Some big news COULD be coming on that front soon but nothing set in stone yet. But yeah, the project is still alive! And looking strong!

Unless he gets excited at news the movie’s being canned, we’ll take that to be a casting announcement, then.

Cash Money

To: Luke From: Crecente

Sheesh, it’s been an insanely busy day, one kept happy by the fat pile of cash sitting on my desk bound for Child’s Play. I plan on stopping by the bank tomorrow to deposit it before shooting off a check to the charity. But until then I’m pretending to be a coke dealer, a very low-end coke dealer. Maybe I should convert it to ones and roll around in it a bit before sending it off… yeah, maybe not.

On Photos

Just a little heads up to those of you who read Digg and Kotaku and maybe have seen the “Kotaku steals photos” story floating around out there. Here’s the full story.

The owner of a site we linked to a few months back, also using a cropped version of their pic, emailed me yesterday to let me know we had used his pictures without his permission or authorisation.

I sent the info on to HQ and then headed out to spend the rest of the day setting up for our Child’s Play fund raiser in Denver. Hours into the fund raiser, the emails starting rolling in pointing out the story that, I can only assume, the site owner had written, saying we had stolen his images.

This morning I got a hold of the site owner and we were able to resolve the issue. Now back to nursing my Child’s Play fund raiser hang over.

Street Fighter: The Later Years Episode VII

Here it is. You’ve waited six whole episodes, and finally, in episode VII, we get to see everyone bust out their costumes. Poor Zangief. Time has not been kind to them him. OK, them. In fact the sight of the Russian brawler in his grape-smugglers sent us all into a deep state of shock, which we were only brought out of by an unexpected (but welcome!) Clayfighter joke.

Activision On GH: Not So Fast MTV

Not since Soap have I been so amused and confused.

Yesterday Harmonix told PS3 owners of Rock Band that the reason Guitar Hero 3 controllers wouldn’t work on their game was because Activision blocked it. Not so fast says Activision in a statement emailed to us moments ago:

Castlevania Animated Movie: The Goat Fucking Stays In The Picture

Warren Ellis, salty-tongued screenwriter for the who-knows-when animated film based on Castlevania III, updated his production blog on the subject recently, indicating that things are moving along quite well. Very well, actually, as the folks at Konami didn’t seem to blush at the more mature themes of Ellis’ screenplay. Dialogue about the sexual violation of a goat? Cool. Lots of bad language? Just peachy, it seems. Ellis and company’s plans for “a film for adults” look like they’re shaping up.

Still, we’re a long way off from seeing Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse for ourselves, as Ellis points out.

Sony: We’re Staying Out Of This Harmonix-Activision Thing

When word broke yesterday that a Rock Band patch that would have addressed Guitar Hero III controller compatibility on the PlayStation 3 was being blocked by Activision, internet tempers flared. Many of our readers expressed outrage, some of it directed at Sony. “Why should Activision get to dictate whether this patch comes out or not? Last I checked, they don’t have any say – Sony does”, wrote commenter Keeb13r. Others, like Rabidsquirrel and Kuraudo pointed to Sony’s hands being tied. Constant presence Scazza even felt a bit sorry for the console manufacturer. No word on tears.

1UP reports that those pointing fingers at Sony won’t get much in the way of results directing their ire in that direction. “This is a matter that needs to be resolved between Harmonix/MTV and Activision regarding Intellectual Property”, an SCEA rep said to the site, but pointed out that coming to an “amicable resolution” would be in the best interests of PlayStation customers.
