Vote For Your Favourite Godzilla

6:00PM Luke Plunkett | Crunch time. As in, it’s time to vote in our Godzilla contest. We’ve picked six finalists from the countless entries, and trust us: narrowing it down to six was really, really, really hard. On offer for the victor is a copy of Godzilla Unleashed (on the system of their choosing), a limited edition Godzilla poster and INTERNET FAME. Runners-up will get no swag, but they’ll still get the fame. Just not as much. So here’s what we need you, readers, to do: submit ONE comment below saying who you vote for. Chit-chat or double-votes will get your ass banned. Voting will close at midnight Sunday, EST, and we’ll post the winner early next week. More »

Aperture Science Wishes You A Merry Christmas

5:30PM Luke Plunkett | Proving even cold-hearted AI constructs can be filled with Christmas cheer, GLaDOS has sent out this heart-warming holiday message, from deep within Aperture’s Holiday Vault. Poor Santa. Fat lot of good that warning message is going to when he’s consumed by flames, his screams of terror echoing helplessly throughout Apertures empty corridors. Another Brilliant Johnny Lee Wii Vid

5:00PM Luke Plunkett | Nothing brightens up a day at Kotaku Tower like JOHNNY LEE, the man who can take a Wii and make magic happen. In this clip, Johnny shows us all how to take a Wii Remote, a sensor bar and a snappy pair of safety glasses, and use them to make a virtual reality display. Fantastic. If you’re the impatient type, the first money shot’s about 2:45 in. [thanks Kdawg!] More »

Trackmania Coming To Wii, DS

4:30PM Luke Plunkett | Here’s some good news. Like finding out Santa is real, and he’s coming round to your place with with a case of Coronas, two slutty elves and a copy of Super Bomberman. Trackmania is, according to this presser, coming to the DS, and from the look of it is bringing the necessary track editor with it. Wi-fi track swapping? Yeah, please, thanks. It’s also coming to the Wii, but we’re a little afraid of the possibility of forced motion controls and barrel roll minigames. New Mass Effect Book Picks Up Where Game Left Off

4:00PM Luke Plunkett | The second Mass Effect novel, titled Mass Effect: Ascension, will be out in the Summer. And while anyone who read the first one will probably be an automatic sell, this book also be of more interest to anyone who’s finished the game, as it will be picking up right where the big-selling 360 RPG finished off and serve as a bridge between Mass Effect 1 and 2. Will Sheperd get laid again? Will he catch that *thing* he’s after? Will Keith David be returning? He bloody well better be. New Mass Effect book calls sequel [CVG] More »

Operation Darkness Demo, Now In English

3:30PM Luke Plunkett | Do you know what Operation Darkness is? It’s a Japanese game. RPG/small-squad tactics hybrid. Set in WWII. But more interesting than your presumptions would have you believe, because along with regular Nazis, there are zombie Nazis, zombies, werewolves and mecha Nazis. The game’s eventually, sometime down the line seeing a Western release, but in the meantime, you can make do (if you can) with grabbing the demo off the Japanese marketplace, because it’s got English subtitles, and you all speak English, right? The Konami Christmas Card, Featuring A Festive Pyramid Head

2:40PM Michael McWhertor | We’re about up to our elf hats in Christmas cards from game developers and publishers this year, but Konami’s effort, courtesy of the New International Track & Field web site finds room for a number of classic characters. Where else can you find Pyramid Head, Frogger and Evil Rose so happy to be in the same room? There’s even a guest appearance from the Cardboard Box! And Sparkster! Boy, was he memorable… Thanks for the heads up, Robert. New International Track & Field [Konami] More »

Retail Chain Busted Scalping Wiis On eBay

2:30PM Luke Plunkett | A CD & games retail chain by the name of, get this, Slackers, has been busted by Ars Technica doing, well, bad things with their WIi allocations. Slackers has twelve stores across Missouri and Illinois, and when a customer walks in and asks for a Wii, they’re told “sorry, don’t have any”. Which is a fib! They do have Wiis, they just keep them out the back and throw them all up on eBay and sell them for $US 400. There’s probably nothing illegal about what they’re doing, but just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right. Plus, you know, Reggie will not be pleased. Asses may be kicked, and names most likely taken. Slackers employees explain Wii scalping business [Opposable Thumbs] More »

Kansas to Illinois

2:00PM Brian Crecente | To: Luke and Flynn From: Crecente Re:Sitting In My House I love to cook, I cook all the time, and I’ve been told I’m pretty good at it. But there are two things I’m not so good at cooking, the first is anything cake like, because I essentially can’t bake, and the second is soup. Fortunately, my wife is a whiz at soups and she LOVES pumpkin soup. She makes these huge, HUGE vats of it and we always end up having to throw some away. I suspect this unreasonable love of pumpkin soup is an Australian thing. We woke up at 6 a.m. this morning and spent the day on the road, my wife driving and me blogging, as we crossed from Colby, Kansas to the southern Illinois, Tristan and the two dogs blissfully quiet in the back of the mini-van. It was a pretty drab, and uneventful trip. Tomorrow I take the wheel and drive us down to Atlanta where we’ll be spending the night with my brother before taking the final leg of our trip to Moultrie. I had figured out how to get the Wii to work in the van’s flip-down television, but my son ended up getting in trouble and we banned him from video games for awhile. Hopefully, he (and I) will be able to delight in some high-speed gaming on the way back. Weighted Companion Cube Plushies In The Wild!

1:40PM Michael McWhertor | Looks like Valve and their order fulfillment department have saved a few Christmases from total annihilation as the official Portal Weighted Companion Cube plush—the one that went on sale last week and then sold out within the day—have begun arriving at fan’s homes already. It’s so tiny and precious! I sure hope that Valve can get more of these lil’ dudes manufactured to meet the frothing demand. Thanks for the heads up, Eric. Enjoy! More »
