British Sales Charts
11:00PM Luke Plunkett | Holiday revellers across the UK are in full-blown party mode this week. The cause of celebration? The end of EA’s Christmas reign of terror, which between FIFA and the Need for Speed series stretches back as far as living memory permits. Instead, taking the top spots for the all-important week ending December 22 are titles for – wait for it – Nintendo platforms, with both Brain Training titles taking the #1 & #2 spots, while Mario & Sonic came in at #3. EA, meanwhile, don’t even crack the top ten. Ding dong, dead witches, etc etc. 1) More Brain Training 2) Brain Training 3) Mario & Sonic at the Olympics 4) Call of Duty 4 (360) 5) Wii Play 6) Assassin’s Creed (360) 7) Assassin’s Creed (PS3) 8) Mario Galaxy 9) Call of Duty 4 (PS3) 10) Mario Party 8 [charts courtesy of ChartTrack] [Image] More »
Mario Metroid
10:00PM Luke Plunkett | Ever wonder what it’d be like if Mario and Metroid got together, exchanged knocked boots, spawned offspring and they grew up to be 80s side-scrollers, just like ma & pa? No, me neither. That’s a little too…fetishistic. Still, that’s what’s happened with this glitchy, strangely hypnotic vid. HELPFUL ADVICE: you probably don’t need to watch all 10 mins to catch the gist, [via Go Nintendo] More »
Aperture Science Gets The Lego Treatment
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Portal’s a lot of things, but cute? Nunh unh. Stand a baby penguin next to a copy of Portal and ask 100 passers-by which is cuter, and 99 will say the penguin (the other making an ill-advised cake joke). But Portal Lego, well, that’s another story. It’s not just cute, it’s terribly inventive as well, with real Lego portals and a cannibalized Star Wars torso helping complete one of the snappiest brick-art tributes we’ve seen in a long time. Del Toro Gets Chatty About Halo
6:30PM Luke Plunkett | Looks like director Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Blade II) likes him some Halo, and likes the inevitable prospect of a Halo movie: It would have been beautiful and I must tell that’s a… of anything in my life that I look back and wish it could have happened is that project, because it is such a powerful experience. People talk about it and say “it’s ALIENS or it’s a retread of this or that,” I don’t think so. I think there are angle to that game that are far more epic and far more complex as a cosmology than that. It’s not just about grunts in space. It’s much more than that. It’s a whole epic. He’s right, and you know he’s right because he knows better than anyone how to faithfully adapt a franchise for the big-screen. Look at Hellboy! So faithful. Especially the love-story. And we all know Halo isn’t about guns, space and aliens. It’s about love, politics and…a complex cosmology. Custom Alyx Vance Figure
5:00PM Luke Plunkett | Considering it’s one of the most polished and well-loved sci-fi stories kicking around gaming today, it’s a wonder Valve haven’t cashed in by releasing some figures of the series’ characters. Ah well. Until they come to their senses/sell out, you’ll have to make your own from scratch, like Quasimodox has here. The bonus Lamar is a neat touch. More pics at the link below. So What Stuffed Your Stocking This Year?
3:00PM Luke Plunkett | With Christmas now mostly done, regardless of where you live, it’s time to take stock of the loot and booty you acquired during the day. And no, not the socks and/or jocks you picked up from your granny, we’re talking games, and game-related paraphernalia. So, what’d you score? A console? Games? Accessories? Some cheesy Threadless shirt that’s two sizes too small? All of the above? I can safely report that for the first time since 1988, I did not receive a single present related to the world of videogames. Not even a gift voucher! Must be getting old… More »
Xbox 360 Gets Its Own Devil May Cry 4 Afterthought Bundle
7:00AM Michael McWhertor | Xbox 360-only gamers coveting the recently announced PlayStation 3 bundle that packs in Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4 in Japan can rest easy—you’re getting your own barebones bundle, too! No, there isn’t some super cool Power Glove-esque Devil Bringer controller pack-in, nor is there a sweet limited Nero action figure bonus. Capcom couldn’t even be bothered to throw in a t-shirt. It’s just the console and the game. I suppose the custom cardboard box will appeal to some, but for 37,800 yen, I’d have expected at the very least a huggable Trish pillow.
