Reggie Says Wii Can Download “Complete” DS Games
11:00PM Luke Plunkett | Speaking with the New York Times, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime has offered a little more info on the Wii’s ability to interact with the DS. While we already know that the Wii will be able to download and transmit DS demos to the handheld, we now also know that you’ll soon be able to download full games to your DS. While discussing the demo download feature, as well as DS DLC (like Japan, the US version of Professor Layton will feature extra downloadable puzzles), he tells the paper that gamers will be able to download “complete games” to the DS via the Wii’s upcoming Everyone’s Nintendo channel. No further info is provided, on the channel’s Western launch or what kind of “complete games” he’s talking about, but does this mean the Game Boy and/or Game Boy Advance might about to be added to the Virtual Console’s lineup? British Sales Charts
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Ah, Need for Speed and FIFA. Previous Christmas sales winners you may be, you’re a little late to the party, aren’t you? Far too late to make a difference, as this is their first top-10 appearance in the holiday season, and they couldn’t make inroads against a rebounding Assassin’s Creed and Nintendo’s usual suspects of Brain Training and Wii Play. 1) Assassin’s Creed (360) 2) Call of Duty 4 (360) 3) More Brain Training 4) Brain Training 5) Assassin’s Creed (PS3) 6) Wii Play 7) Cooking Mama (DS) 8) FIFA 08 (PS2) 9) Need For SPeed: ProStreet (PS2) 10) Super Mario Galaxy [charts courtesy of ChartTrack] [Image] More »
Steve Purcell Talks Sam & Max
8:00PM Luke Plunkett | ACG had a little chat with Steve Purcell, creator of Sam & Max. They cover a lot of ground, from comics to TV to his work with Lucasarts and Telltale, but perhaps the most interesting is what he’s got to say about the canned Sam & Max 2. That game was probably between two thirds and three quarters done. I never had a chance to get upset because the fan backlash was so immediate and intense. As far as LucasArts current path, it seems that adventure games are just not part of their plan. It’s a new company with a different direction from their roots but I guess it’s working for them. You could easily say it’s not been working for them, considering their market share now compared to, oh, 1995, but whatever. The real tragedy is that, at ¾ done, somewhere there is playable, no doubt enjoyable code from Sam & Max Freelance Police. Possibility Of A PS3 Orange Box Patch?
7:00PM Luke Plunkett | While Mike clearly showed the PS3 version of the Orange Box wasn’t a disaster, the 360 version is still the better of the two. Which sucks for PS3 owners. Things might not be all bad for owners of Sony’s console, however, with a Valve representative – posting on the company’s forums in response to a complaint over the PS3 version – stating: I am sorry that you are unsatisfied with your game. I hope that we will be able to correct any major issues in the future. Course he could just be saying Valve will never ever let EA London touch another of their games ever again. Optimists and finger-crossers, though, will prefer to think he means a lot of the PS3 version’s issues (especially the framerate in the HL games) can and will be fixed in a future patch. Halo Celebrated In Military Heraldry
6:00PM Luke Plunkett | Kotakuite John points us towards a collection of US military patches he’s been perusing. Most will mean both jack and crap to you unless you’re in the services, but one in particular should stand out. This one, from a detachment of the 15th Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron. Nice seeing the storied tradition of basing military insignia on skulls, hot chicks and wild animals has now been expanded to include nerd Halo references. US Virtual Console Update
5:00PM Luke Plunkett | Expecting a MASSIVE SURPRISE for the Virtual Console, with this being January 1 and all? Sorry. Nothing MASSIVE here. But don’t go deflating on us like a soft, saggy soufflé just yet. Because while Light Crusader for the Genesis and Top Hunter for the Neo Geo are two of week’s three offerings, the third is Bubble Bobble. Bubble Bobble! [Image] More »
Wii Peripheral Arms Race Heats Up
4:00PM Luke Plunkett | This is Dragon’s latest shot at cashing in on the Wii peripheral market. It is also proof that Dragon have gone peripheral MAD. Their “8 In 1 Weapon Kit” pack is almost as advertised: you get seven weapons (well, six and a shield) in the one box. Two swords, two knives, an axe, a gun and the shield. The mystery eighth weapon is your own imagination. Wii – Weapon Kit 8 in 1 Bundle Set [Shop 4 Tech, via Wii Fanboy] More »
WolfQuest Is Out Right Now!
3:00PM Luke Plunkett | Wait, Wolfquest is out already? Where were our press releases? Our embeddable launch trailers? Our large, zipped asset packs? Nowhere, that’s where, so we’re left to find out about this ourselves: Wolfquest (or at least it’s first episode) has been released, and is ready for download. It’s a 75MB download, is available for both Windows and Mac, and is FREE. If only we’d known this last week, before we went ahead and ran our now-worthless GOTYs. Mario Galaxy’s OK, we guess, but does he SMELL ELK? No, he sure as shit does not. More »
Rock Band DLC Has You Covered
2:30PM Luke Plunkett | Harmonix and MTV have released more Rock Band DLC onto the 360’s marketplace, so as to better equip you for any virtual rocking you may wish to partake in on your day off. It’s not the strongest offering, however, with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Gimme Three Steps” the only original track. “Hard to Handle” by the Black Crowes, and Rush’s “Limelight” round out the selection, but are “as made famous by” cover versions. Shame. Oh, and guys, the constant updates are great, thanks, but we’re still waiting on those promised album downloads. [Image] More »
