2007 European Hardware Sales (As Guessed By EA)
5:30PM Luke Plunkett | Unlike Japan and the US, it’s nigh-on impossible to get accurate hardware sales numbers for the European market as a whole. There are multiple companies tracking their sales charts, not every country is covered in published sales figures, not every batch of data includes total sales figures, etc etc. Lots of problems. EA, though, have taken a swing at predicting 2007’s hardware sales charts themselves, basing it all on what we assume is paid-for GfK and ChartTrack data. More »
PaRappa and UmJammer: Real Guitar Heroes
5:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Developer NanaOn-Sha has churned out some pretty great music games like PaRappa The Rapper and UmJammer Lammy. Games so great they deserve to be immortalised in musical instruments. Over the holidays, reader Landon found these Parappa guitar picks in Osaka. He writes: I play drums, not guitar, but I had to PICK (get it?) them up. Yes, yes. We get it. He even found an UmJammer Lammy guitar for about a hundred bucks. That, after the jump. More »
Battle For The White House Features Gut Punching, Purple Suits
4:30PM Luke Plunkett | Cell games are boring. US presidential primaries are boring. But combine the two and have Hillary Clinton taking a poorly-aimed swing at Guliani’s package? Now we’re talking. This is Gameloft’s Battle for the White House. Think of it as Wii Sports for your phone. With politicians. And probably the snazziest suit Barrack Obama could ever hope to be seen in. SingStar Warbles Its Way To The US In May
3:40PM Luke Plunkett | SingStar for the PS3 was released in Europe and Australia in December. In the US, though? Still no sign of it. Don’t worry. You’re not missing much. Despite a recent SingStore update, the game’s promised roster of “hundreds” of songs is nowhere near being realised, and those that are on offer are mostly rubbish. That may well have changed by the time the game’s released in the US, however, with SCEE today announcing it’ll be arriving in the States in May, giving the London Studios team plenty of time to get some Bon Jovi and REO Speedwagon into the lineup. No More Heroes Could Have Rocked The 360’s World
3:20PM Luke Plunkett | No More Heroes is shaping up to be one of the biggest games for the Wii this year. Thing is, it wasn’t always going to be that way. When first coming up with the idea of a sandbox-styled action game, creator Goichi Suda figured it’d be best suited to the 360, not the Wii. Makes sense, it would have looked better and they could have crammed more stuff in there. But then along came the Wii. Originally, I’d wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually. [Marvelous Interactive boss] Wada-san had information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out, so that’s why he thought I should produce the game on that format. At the time, I didn’t really understand why, but after seeing and understanding how it works, I think it was a good choice and the controller works really well with the game. From what I’ve played I wouldn’t say it worked really well, but yeah, it works well. Definitely one of the more appropriate games on the console when it comes to motion control. Smash Bros Not Working? Quit Smoking
2:20PM Luke Plunkett | After reports emerged of Brawl encountering errors upon booting (and also of sluggish video playback), Nintendo have sat down, looked at the problem and decided that problem is not on their end. It’s on your end! They reckon it’s all down a dirty disc lens, caused by a buildup of dust and…tobacco. Other games haven’t seen this problem because Smash Bros is one of the few Wii games to date to ship on a super-sensitive, dual-layer DVD. And because Average Joe can’t clean a disc lens himself, Nintendo are offering to clean affected Wiis for free, no doubt in exchange for some condescending comments about how to better take care of your console. So there you have it, Japan. Quit smoking! It’s bad for your health and your Wii. Nintendo to Clean Japanese Wiis Over Smash Bros. Errors [IGN] More »
