And the hype train continues! Here’s another viral ad for Grand Theft Auto IV. This one was spotted in New York’s Lower East Side. It’s a wanted ad for Caribbean arms dealer Little Jacob. The joke is that the “LCPD will clear any outstanding parking/speeding violations in exchange for information leading to an arrest.” This isn’t the last of these ads, and there will be more, we’re sure. Oh yes, we’re sure.

Thanks for the photo, Chris!
It’s been over a year and some change that Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky was first announced for the DS &mdash and about a half a year that it was announced the game would be delayed to 2008. When talking about Square Enix’s M&A business strategy, company honcho Yoichiro Wada tells Bloomberg: It’s almost finished… The balance of single play and multiplayer is very important… Because it’s such a big title, we didn’t want to rush it out.
Fair enough! We’re patient. We can wait. Wada Talks M&A [Bloomberg via Siliconera]
That’s what tipster Steve had to say when he sent us in this shot of his copy of Lost Odyssey which he picked up on January 27. Thing is, it’s not due out here until the 8th. Steve was kicked into action when he saw a similar post regarding Devil May Cry 4 this morning.
Yes, it’s an overseas copy, but Steve points out that the language selections come in English, Chinese and Japanese and the game itself runs fine on PAL Xbox 360s. Apparently the store is expecting Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for DS, which isn’t out until next month.
Update: Looks like EB Games has broken the street date for Lost Odyssey today, according to a post at Neogamer. Apparently the game did not come with a “do not sell” order. (Thanks Luke P.)
To: Ash & Luke From: Flynn Subject: Old Arcade Machines Need Love Too
Ahoy gents. I trust the weekend treated you well? As I was walking around near my house today I passed by an old, dusty repair shop. It was closed but I could see some old arcade machines inside including a defunct Paperboy machine and an original Ninja Gaiden machine. I’m told that they repair arcade machines exclusively at this place although no one seemed to be sure if they actually sell them or just do the repairs. I’ll check in with them on Tuesday when they open, not that I could ever afford a stand up machine, but curiosity compels me. I’m actually rather surprised at all the gaming related things I’ve been finding around my new place: the ugly Dreamcast, the 8-bit rainbow unicorn mural, the creepy Tails statue and now these old arcade machines. Who knew the Mission was so steeped in video game stuff?
Some things you might have missed this weekend:
This guy has an incredible personal arcade machine collection
I’m looking forward to checking out Eternity’s Child on WiiWare
Love your Xbox? Win another one!
I’m heading out now for some dinner and maybe a movie. Who knows, I’m feeling a little aimless tonight. Hope you guys have a great week. Goodnight.
Sumea caught up with Flagship Studios’ David Glenn at last year’s Game Connect event down in Melbourne. Instead of staring at him like some sort of Egyptian god or throwing underpants at him, an interview was requested instead.
Here’s what Glenn had to say about starting up shop after the core team parted ways with Blizzard:
We only had nine of us. So our whole goal that first year was just to put together the basic foundation of the game and start the company and find a publisher and all that, so it really helped us in negotiations, because we didn’t need anybody’s money right away, we could work, and create the game we wanted to create and shop it around.
There’s the secret to success folks. Work for a really big games developer, make lots of money, then decide to start your own studio. It’s so simple! Sumea Interviews David Glenn, Art Director with Flagship Studios [Sumea]
We’ve got some good titles coming out this week ready to steal my hard earned money. Devil May Cry 4 is definitely on my list and I’m kind of curious about this Assassin’s Creed game on the DS. I’ve been playing a bit of Culdcept Saga and found myself oddly addicted. I guess it’s the tabletop gaming nerd in me rearing its geeky head again. What’s on your list this week?
According to reports from IGN, Sony Japan will soon be giving the Playstation 3 its own version of the Playstation 2: Greatest Hits called Playstation 3 the Best. IGN’s source, an unnamed Japanese online retailer, is listing Resistance: Fall of Man, FolksSoul, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight, and Ridge Racer 7 as the first five titles available. They’ll be going for 3,800 yen which translates to about $US 35. The first line up of games should hit retail stores on March 19. No official word yet from Sony Japan on the subject but I expect we’ll hear something soon, hopefully followed swiftly by an announcement of a similar nature for the US.
PS3 Games For Cheap in Japan [IGN] [Thanks, Kevin]
The auction for the sealed copy of Chrono Trigger I wrote about yesterday has closed and the coveted game went or a whopping $US 1,217. The winning bidder will be a bit poorer but will have one hell of a piece of game history in their hands. If your itching to drop a load of money on a sealed NES game and missed out on this one, you can still get a bid in on this copy of MegaMan X2. Opening bid is $US 1,000. I’m truly amazed… I guess it’s true that things are ultimately worth whatever someone will pay for them.
According to Activision, Devil May Cry 4 will be out in Australia on the 7th for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Of course if you live in Perth, near the GameTraders on Hay St, you can pick it up today. Tipster Daniel sent in the above shot of what we can only assume is him holding his PS3 copy.
Chances are it’ll be out in a few other places, but Perthians definitely have the advantage right now.
[Thanks Daniel!]
