Europe Gets Spore Two Days Early
11:30PM Luke Plunkett | That chilly breeze I’m feeling on the back of my neck may just be hell freezing over. While Spore will be released in the US on September 7, EA have announced that the game will be released in Europe on September 5. That’s all four versions – PC, Mac, Mobile & DS – as well. Hardly recompense for years of suffering, but it’s nice to catch a break sometimes. Spore release date announced [Eurogamer] More »Fear and Loathing in Hyrule

American Lost Odyssey Packaging Is An Exercise In Half Measures
10:30PM Luke Plunkett | Lost Odyssey comes on four, count ‘em, four discs. Which creates a packaging dilemma for the folks at Xbox HQ. In Asia, the problem was solved by releasing a slightly fatter case, which housed all four discs on two little trays. An elegant solution. But the American version? They cram three discs into a case then stick the fourth in a paper envelope. Not so elegant. Wark & vexvegaz @ NeoGAF More »
Former Boy Band Singer in Tekken Movie
10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | That long-in-development-hell Tekken lugs closers to the big screen. The movie version has been kicked around Hollywood since 2002 with Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems now holding the distribution rights. Back in October, Variety reported that Free Willy 2 director Dwight Little (yeah, we know) would be helming the forthcoming project. Now, apparently it has at least one actor. On the official page of former boy band singer Luke Goss, the adminstrator posted that Goss would be taking on the role of Brit Tekken 4 fighter, Steve Fox. After his band Bros broke up, Goss (above, with twin brother) went on to appear in flicks like Blade II and Hellboy 2. Let’s hope the producers can work fringe leather vests, acid washed jeans and keyboard playing into the flick. Oh, for those not familiar with Bros, hit the jump for a special treat: More »Maybe Band Mashups Won’t Be So Bad
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | OK, so on first hearing the news, it was real easy to write off THQ’s Band Mashups as a cheap, Wii-based Rock Band/GHIII clone. But now that we can see how it actually works…I’m intrigued. In this clip, a metal band and the Mexican band of the undead face off over…Cypress Hill’s Insane In The Membrane. Which gets mashed like a potato with milk and butter. More »
Jubblie Pads Catch Phrased So Perfectly
9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Boob mousepads are nothing new. We’ve covered that bumpy terrain numerous times before! But this, this is special. Next month, erotic game School Days is getting a boob mousepad that features the ample charms of character Kotonoha Katsura. So what makes this one standout? The knowing catch phrase used in the promotional ad. Hit the jump for that: More »
Kosovo Needs A Flag, Dreamcast Logo In The Running
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Remember Kosovo? Little Serbian province. NATO and Serbia had a little tussle over it in the 90s, and it’s now inching nearer to full-blown independence. Which means they need a flag. An international competition to design one was held last year, in which 997 flags were submitted by people all over the world. Of that 997, only three remain in the running: an EU-style flag with a map of Kosovo in the centre, a black, whit and red tricolour and… another black, white and red tricolour. With a strange, yet familiar symbol on it. It’s supposedly a Bronze Age icon from the 4th century Dardanian Kingdom. Sega fans will argue otherwise. Lucky Star and Ronald McDonalds, So Hellish!
8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | This isn’t just creepy. No, no, no. It’s terrifying and creepy! Creepily terrifying! Here, Ronald McDonalds are mashed with the Lucky Star opening. For those who’ve forgotten (or just really like) the original Lucky Star opening, it’s after the jump! More »
Say, Did You Know How Many Wii Games Suck?
7:30PM Luke Plunkett | Next-Gen’s Matt Matthews, perhaps the internet’s #1 fan of game-related, coloured graphs, has dug through GameRanking’s average review scores and discovered something a lot of you could probably have guessed anyways: when you add up all the Wii reviews and average them out, they’re a little… awful. How awful? See above. While every console of the past eight years (sorry Dreamcast) have seen their games average around 69-71%, the average Wii score is only 64%. Which leads to much hypothesising in the piece about reviewers not “understanding” the Wii, theories on the impact of shovelware and how the Wii is short on AAA titles (Madden 07, for example, is still in the top 10-ranked games for the platform). The full article has a lot more graphs and charts than just that one, so head on over if you’d like to see/read more. What’s With Wii’s Low Review Scores? [Next-Gen] More »
