Do People Still Accidently Throw Their Wii-motes?

People are still having problems operating their Wiis? Apparently! While we were under the impression most had figured out that a simple wrist flick would suffice, Baltimore news station ABC 2 drops this bombshell: Some people are getting HURT while playing with their Nintendo Wii. From the ABC piece, complete with bad Wii puns and everything: But as ABC2 News Investigator Joce Sterman found out, it also shows you there’s a big difference between playing the game on the field and in your living room. The grace, the skill. There’s a reason the professionals are getting paid to play. It’s simply not as easy as it looks. And as we’ve found, there’s a big difference between reality and wii-ality…

Welcome to 2006! The piece even has helpful tips like “take a break while playing” or “don’t let go.” Some people call this “advice,” but we’ll dub it “common sense.” So, thanks! Wii Have a Problem [ABC via Eurogamer][Pic]

First Footage Of PixelJunk Eden

Dylan Cuthbert of Q-Games showed off the above trailer at the first day of the Game Developers Conference, revealing PixelJunk Eden to the public for the first time. According to Cuthbert, the third game in the PixelJunk series is like “an organic Mario” in which the player collects pollen to make other plants grow. With a combo-based scoring system, the psychedelic experimental PlayStation Network title extends the PixelJunk credo of bringing simple, 2D games into high definition. Q-Games’ latest looks like a fresh and welcome addition to their already interesting line-up of games.

CliffyB Explains The Hype Machine

Gears of War creator CliffyB knows what’s he’s doing. Guy’s a pro! And when he gets up in that shit, dude is so not pussyfooting around. Don’t expect the expected Gears of War sequel announcement just to slip out. The Cliffster has a plan, man. He says: The thing is, if you’re a developer and you’re making a new video game — whatever that game is, I’m not talking about any sequels or anything right now — you want to control the timing of when the official word goes out. Because it’s a carefully orchestrated hype plan building towards a momentous release, which is an event now. If you’re not making your video game release an event, then you might as well give up on the whole thing. So what you want as a developer and look for in a publishing partner is to carefully orchestrate the tease and the timing of everything. And if somebody else comes out with some story that’s not confirmed or whatever — you know, don’t confirm anything unless the timing’s right.

And that concludes today’s masterclass in how to be a game designer. Next week, learn how frosted hair can totally make or break your game. CliffyB Talks About Proper Time [MTV Multiplayer]

Infinite Interactive Wants You, Or Someone Like You

Kotaku AU

The developer behind Puzzle Quest is looking for talent. Yes it is. A junior artist and an assistant producer, if someone were to hold a gun to my head and demand I be specific.

You may remember we chased down Infinite Interactive’s head honcho Steve Fawkner for an interview not so long ago. Not only is he switched on, he knows a thing or two about making games. Good ones. I know I’ve spent billions of days playing Warlords in its many incarnations.

Billions.

So, if you’ve been studying to get into the industry, or have some experience in the areas described, then this might be the opportunity you’ve been looking for. If you happen to live in Victoria, then you’ve already cleared one major hurdle. I’m guessing the next would be getting an interview. Or a polar bear.

Jack Thompson Challenges Fake Samuel L. Jackson to Debate

Samuel L. Jackson isn’t only a fine actor, but a gamer. He’s one of us. What does he think of NIU tragedy? No clue. But what does FAKE Sam Jackson think about it? He’s a pissed off motherfucker. Over on News Groper, which clearly states “These Blogs Are Not Real”, the phony Samuel L. Jackson blogs: And I was also fucking amazed when I read about Christian conservative attorney Jack Thompson blaming all this shooting shit on video games again, like there ain’t no other possible got-damn reason on God’s green earth for a motherfucker to go batshit and blow away another person. Jack Thompson’s letter to the Northern Illinois University president is a laugh-riot. I’m assuming Jack Thompson isn’t related to Eric “Don’t Call Me Lance Bass” Thompson, but both these Thompsons sure got a family resemblance of idiotic statements.

Now imagine Sam Jackson saying it. And picture Jack Thompson getting upset by this. And then imagine Jack Thompson getting mad at the real Sam Jackson for something the fake Sam Jackson blogged. Hit the jump for Thompson’s comment on the News Groper post:

Street Fighter IV Playable This Week, Launches In July

And now, potentially the most important news to come out of the AOU show from the weekend: Street Fighter launch info. It was announced that the arcade version of Capcom’s fighter will make its proper public debut on Friday at Plaza Capcom in Tokyo, where it’ll remain until February 24. As for the real Japanese launch, that’s promised to take place in the summer over two dates: arcades ordering the game board and its Taito VEWLIX cabinet will get it in late-July, while those ordering just the game board will get it in mid-August. No word on what this means for a Western release, but those who frequent the more enterprising arcades should start seeing them in a similar timeframe. So, Which Nintendo Team Made Wii Fit?

Alright, so who made Wii Fit? Yes, Nintendo. We all know that. But which one?! In the recent “Iwata Asks” over at Wii.com, all is revealed: Miyamoto: The make-up of the Wii Fit team was really varied. The design and sound staff, for example, were brought in directly from Twilight Princess. I was a little afraid at first that a group of people who’d worked on something like that wouldn’t take a completely atypical project like this as seriously, but in the end I had nothing to worry about because they all worked very hard on Wii Fit.

Iwata: No one would say, “I didn’t join Nintendo just so I could work on something like this.”

Miyamoto: Instead of just handing the game over to a team of novice designers because of the game’s relatively simple look, I decided that the nature of the game itself required the kind of people who’ve worked on games such as Twilight Princess. That’s why the team members were all really experienced people, and I’m really grateful that they all worked together to create this great game.So if and when you finally get Wii Fit, just think: They could’ve been working on another Zelda game. Instead, we got a Nintendo branded scale! Iwata Asks Vol. 3 [Wii.com]

The Best Way To Lure TV Watchers Back From Games? Games! Duh.

Who’s taking serious games seriously? Television networks. With network execs bolting out of bed in a cold sweat at the thought of a generation raised on games thumbing their noses at their programming ideas, the business of selling TV shows to gamers is becoming a viable business. At today’s Serious Games Summit, reps from a trio of developers clued attendees in on the task of motivating lapsed TV watchers back to the soft blue glow of passivity.
