No Food Or Drink While Wii-ing

This, my friends, is why people still go into the sign business. Because even as we enter the digital world in which every surface custom advertises to us in response to retinal scans, there will always be a need for the quick and crude Wii pun on hard paper, where one’s freedom of speech stems only as far as the Scotch tape will reach.

SCEA Hires Three New Execs

Looks like Sony’s doing a little bit of a reshuffling song-and-dance, as Sony Computer Entertainment America welcomes three new executives to its team. Robert Dyer, Ian Jackson, and Sally Buchanan have all been brought on to help head up SCEA, reporting directly to the SCEA President and CEO himself, Jack Tretton. Dyer will be assuming the position of Senior Vice President, Public Relations, replacing Riley Russell, who will now be Chief Legal Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate Development.

N+ A Triumph For Tiny Ninja

When I first heard that Metanet’s minimalist ninja game N was going to be released on Xbox Live Arcade as N+, I have to say I was skeptical. An excellent free game for the PC, why would I want to spend my hard-earned monies on a game that uses a mere fraction of the power of my Xbox 360, filling up my widescreen TV with a game that looks like it could have been made 15 years ago? The answer, in short, is that it completely kicks ass. N+ is gaming distilled down to its component elements. You have a door, switches, and obstacles. Your job is to get to the door. Simple. The single player is as fun (and as frustrating) on the 360 as it was on the PC, but where N+ really shines is in the multiplayer.

PlayStation Store Getting Overhauled In April

While Metal Gear Solid 4, DualShock 3 and God of War news may have dominated our Destination PlayStation coverage, one other interesting leak came out of the retailer conference. According to sources there, the PlayStation Store is finally getting a graphical user interface overhaul, one planned to arrive alongside Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on April 15. The revamp of the PlayStation Store is said to give it a look more in tune with the SingStore, pictured above, which is already accessible from the PlayStation 3 version of SingStar.

Bionic Commando Gets Remote Play

An HD remake of Bionic Commando (Bionic Commando: Rearmed) is coming to PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PCs. But only one version will include the free bonus of fitting in your pocket. Bionic Commando will support Remote Play through the PS3, quite possibly making it the first third-party title to support the system’s integrated service.

First Look At God Of War Special Edition PSP

That hasty Photoshop job of the God of War: Chains of Olympus PSP? Not official. But this one is and it looks far more gorgeous than the “Deep Red” PSP that Japanese gamers got. As we said earlier, the God of War Entertainment Pack comes with a bloody good PSP color swap, a copy of Chains of Olympus, a UMD with Judd Apatow’s comedy blockbuster Superbad and a voucher to download Syphon Filter: Combat Ops from the PlayStation Store, free. Not a bad deal (and one that may make me bite, as I’m in the market for everything offered).

The bundle ships, as we said earlier, in June for $US 199.99. For a look at the reverse side, with a lovely Kratos silkscreen, keep on clickin’.

PlayStation 3 Gets Metal Gear Online Beta In April

In addition to announcing a ship date and hardware bundle for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, SCEA today revealed that a beta for the game’s online component will happen before the June release. Metal Gear Online, as you may be aware, will be a separate release from the single player experience, but Metal Gear Solid 4 will come with a “starter pack” that will give gamers a taste of what to expect from the full version.

The multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online will kick off in April for those who pre-order the game. Run, do not walk, to your local retailer and bring a fiver with you.

Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 Bundle Announced

It’s happened. The bundle we’ve all been waiting for will indeed be coming to store shelves. Sony is releasing a PlayStation 3 bundle for the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. It will include an 80GB system, the game and one Dual Shock 3 controller for $US 499. We assume that this bundle will hit June 12th alongside Metal Gear Solid 4. Expect slippery aisles, wet with fanboy…drool.
