Update: The maker of this fantastic little guy, Sayraphim Lothian, got in contact with her details. So now we can give credit where it’s due.
Kotaku AU reader Shayne sent us this photo of a knitted Sackboy that was made especially for him by a friend. You may recognise the character from Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet.
There are pictures of another knitted Sackboy floating around the Internet. While this Australian-made one isn’t that different, it’s good to know we’re a strong competitor in the global arena of arts and craft.
[Thanks Shayne!]
Poor Sierra. When Activision and Blizzard merged late last year, everybody forgot (or, more likely, didn’t care) about what was going to happen to the venerable old studio. Well, here’s what’s happening: Activision are going to make each Sierra project currently in development get on all fours and explain why they shouldn’t be killed off immediately. Games that are nearing completion/due this year, like Brutal Legend and Prototype, should be fine, but stuff that’s not so far along will have a hard time of it justifying why they shouldn’t be binned in favour of another Guitar Hero update or WWII Call of Duty. Here’s an excellent point (kind of) made by a Lucasarts rep with regards to their upcoming environment-shifting shooter Fracture:
While a lot of games are pushing the limits of what can be done visually in games, we also wanted to push gameplay to levels that literally could not be done on the previous generation of hardware.
Putting the hype for their own game aside, this is something that’s been shitting me off for months now. Here were are, more than two years into this console cycle, and how many titles have given us new ways of playing games (that old hardware just couldn’t manage), rather than just prettier ways of playing old ones? Let’s see, we’ve got Dead Rising, and we’ve got….um….well, maybe Oblivion, and…that’s about it. Disappointing. LucasArts: Most games don’t take advantage of next-gen hardware [MCV]
PlayStation 3 owners who attempt to play their copies of The Orange Box tonight will be greeted with a required update, bringing the EA published collection to version 1.10. The 128MB download unfortunately doesn’t come with a changelog, nor can we find a shred of information on what’s changed on the internet. Digging through Valve’s Steam forums, EA’s support site and game forums, and the official PlayStation web site have revealed nothing about the download. We’re pestering EA to found out what’s up.
During my initial play time with the new version, testing out Team Fortress 2, Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two, nothing was immediately noticeable, although connecting to a TF2 game did seem to be rather speedy.
All those Street Fighter II casting announcements mean nothing. Nothing. Because they’ve all been trumped by this single signing: Beau Bridges has been cast in the role of B.B. Hensley for the upcoming Max Payne movie, which will see him acting as Payne’s mentor. I don’t remember a B.B. Hensley in either Max Payne game, but really, that doesn’t matter. Because it’s Beau Bridges. Which instantly makes the character incredibly awesome. Bridges cast in ‘Max Payne’ [Hollywood Reporter]
More Imported SSBB Love: Just a quick one to let Victorians know that Tunzagames in Shepparton and Game Mania in Ringwood both have stock of the NTSC Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Tunzagames is expecting a shipment of Freeloader discs by March 25, while Game Mania has them now and is selling them for $40. Gametraders in Marion, SA also has SSBB and Freeloader discs.
The Entertainment Software Ratings Board has weighed in on the potentially objectionable content in Grand Theft Auto IV, giving it an “M” rating, citing the game as having “Partial Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, Blood, and Intense Violence.” One might suspect that, given the “AO” controversy surrounding Rockstar Games’ Manhunt 2 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas‘ “Hot Coffee” mod, the ESRB did its due diligence and more when reviewing the contents of GTA IV.
