Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack – Just a friendly reminder that the Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack’s now free to download. Anyone still playing the game online should know this isn’t really an optional deal; if you don’t get it, you won’t be able to play in ranked Big Team, Social Big Team, Team Slayer and Rocket Race matches.
Activision are running a little Guitar Hero competition. An awesome Guitar Hero competition. It’s an air guitar (well, fake-plastic-guitar-playing) contest, where entrants have to fake rocking out to a track in front of Activision for a shot at appearing as a character in the next Guitar Hero game. That’s not the awesome part. No, that comes now: the comp’s judge is Lemmy. Yeah, Lemmy. Brilliant.
Monster Hunter is big in Japan. Not in the joking way, either, it’s seriously big in Japan. But it’s big only in Japan, nowhere else. Why is that? You love killing giant monsters with a SWORD IN THE FACE, don’t you? Maybe the problem is that the series just hasn’t been advertised well enough in the West, something Capcom aren’t just aawre of, they may actually do something about:
Yep! Just as Nintendo announced at GDC, the just-live-in-Japan WiiWare has added pay-to-play cost elements. Square Enix’s WiiWare title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King has extra costs for players. When downloading the title, the above screen appears that lets players know they are about to download a title that requires more points for “[additional]data or service.” As we’ve posted before, WiiWare game Mojipittan also has downloadable content that requires extra money as well. Since the games just launched, we’re not sure what form these added costs will take. Pay-to-Play Elements [Game|Life]
As alluded to yesterday, here is a screen clip from the Fuji TV nationwide network news attempting to draw a link between the senseless multiple stabbings by suspect Masahiro Kanagawa in Ibaraki Prefecture and gaming. Fuji TV flashed a clip of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword and wrote this at the bottom of the screen:
Few more bits of info regarding the freshly-announced Wii version of Rock Band, courtesy of Harmonix. First is that the game’s almost a straight-up port of the PS2 version, so don’t expect any Wii Remote-specific treats like you got in Guitar Hero. And while we’re on the subject of Guitar Hero, Harmonix have also said that the Wii’s Guitar Hero controller won’t – as you’ve probably guessed by now – work with the Wii’s Rock Band. As with the PS3 version, they’re instructing all upset gamers to go right ahead and blame Activision. [GH compat via Joystiq]

Hit the jump for another Pikacap.
For all the doom and gloom talk surrounding PC gaming of late, it sure is swell to see someone sticking up for the poor old personal computer. That someone is Alex St. John, who was one of the creators of DirectX, a man who believes that PC gaming’s digital delivery potential is the future of gaming.
Socialbomb is a real world social game that clocks players’ popularity. Players wear phony lookin’ bombs around their necks that measure interpersonal reputation.
