You Want GTA IV Australia? That’ll Be $120, Thanks
It’s not $99.95. It’s not even $109.95. No, my friends, Grand Theft Auto IV will have a recommend retail price of $119.95 in Australia. Note that while the PS3 version of the game is shown here (which seems to be a publisher favourite for inflated prices) the Xbox 360 will also cop the $120 price tag.
This is for the standard game, not the Collector’s Edition. It smarts even more when you consider it’ll retail for $US 59.95 in the States. That’s ~$65 Australian, which means we’re basically paying double the price.We asked Rockstar’s local presence for some answers, but all it was willing to do was confirm that the price was correct and applies to both platforms. It also provide a $149.95 price tag for the Collector’s Edition. All I can say is there better be a Dodge Viper – or a fully functional animatronic Jessica Alba – in the CE box, or it’s going to be yet another bitter pill for Oz gamers to swallow.

man we always get fucked. this is complete bs! i like all smart people however, import games. i just hope the 360 version is region free otherwise ill have to go the GAME deal of trade in 3 games and get it for 9.95.

in germany you pay for nearly _every_ game 70€. Thats 120 AU-$…..
Christ on a bike. Things have been worse – I remember paying $100 for Shenmue on the DC back in 2001 from Electronics Buttock, and that was steep. $120 is taking the piss though. Mind, you had to see it coming – surely I’m not the only person who’s witnessed the increasing price of games on next gen systems? Admittedly we’re a way down the track from launch fever though I do see more of this wallet-fleecing activity to come because, chums, it’s GTAIV. The name alone will cause Billy the 15-year-old kid to scream ’til his tonsils bleed to get this game, and I doubt many parents are savvy enough to buy OS. It’s a big ticket item, and there are enough affluent punters/chumps out there to buy at this price point.

I don’t think I need to re write the comment I made on this in the Unreal comes to Steam story, but basically:
-We don’t deserve this kind of crap.
-This game is a rehash of old content YET again (It’s libertly city again, people), so it should be a budget title.
-IF I get this game I’ll import it, and if my friends do, I’ll point them in the direction of Play Asia so they don’t have to take it up the ass from Sony and Microsoft.

Here in Iceland PS3 and XBOX360 games always cost 90-120$. If we import games the goverment will add 10% import toll and 24,5% sales tax on the game so we wont get them much cheaper by importing.
I’m actually glad i ordered the CE. I thought it was a bit expensive, but considering standard is $120, Fuck atleast im getting something for the extra $$$ Dufflebag+Lockbox+soundtrack+art book+keychain.
I’ve had my CE paid in full at EB’s since the middle of last year. I’ve expecting something to go wrong too (like them giving my CE to some kid who only did a preorder during their recent ad blitz for it) but I did not see this happening at all.
How the hell can they justify $30 difference between the game on it’s own or the game and a pile of swag?
I’m expecting a lot of videogame related violence outta this.

Sorry, I just got the Witcher Special edition from ‘yesasia.com’ for 54 dollars Australian. WITHOUT any shipping costs whatsoever. Guess where I’m going to buy all my games now?
While the disparity between international prices on games and hardware is vexing to say the least, lets spare a thought for those who cut their teeth back in the cartridge days of the nes/ms/md/snes. I vividly remember forking over in excess of NZD$200 for a single game and being happy for the privilege.
Could our government have something to do with this? Making the price higher because they couldn’t get the 18+ rating on it, so now the less fortunate kiddies cant afford to buy it…

No… Microsoft forked over something like $25 Million USD per DLC (of which there are currently two planned). You can bet your house that it will be xbox only.

Way to encourage piracy, Rockstar (or rather “entire Australian gaming industry”). People are going to get mod chips so they can import the cheaper American version. But while they’ve got a mod chip, why not buy the MUCH cheaper pirated version? Or download it, if they have a dual layer burner.

its because there is no +18 rating they think littel childeren will not pay 120 for a game it was on a gamesite in my country,they were searching for a way to get this +15 without changing the game play
