Finding some dusty old tapes marked “GDC08″, GameDaily have posted an interview held during the conference with Sony’s Scott Steinberg, who in case you’re not aware, bleeds Sony. Steinberg eventually gets onto the PS3′s somewhat-controversial SKU strategy, where he seems to suggest – while explaining why the 80GB model ran dry at Christmas – that the larger PS3 is here to stay:
Above, a stop motion clip of an Evangelion Revoltech figurine doing what looks like the Napoleon Dynamite dance. It’s 1:00 AM Mountain Time (yes, we know), and already this is the coolest thing you will see all day. Promise.
Maybe, tomorrow, too.
Good news for those just dying for a shot at virtual lounging around and furniture collection: The PSN’s senior director, Susan Panico, has told the Official PlayStation mag that Sony will be “opening up the Home beta to the public very soon”. Up til now Home’s only been accessible to a select few early beta testers, so this is welcome news for the rest of us plebs, especially in the wake of Warhawk’s freshly-added Home content. Before you ask, yes, that’s pretty much all she said. No further details – such as a timeframe or whether this means North America and Europe – were revealed. PlayStation POV [OPM, via VG247]
Welcome to Eggture! This BioShock inspired creation comes from reader Ricky, who writes:
the bioshock one took like 4 days… getting that copper colour right, and making the background was hellish xD
Here’s what’s going on: Decorate an egg (yes, an actual egg), take a pic of it with a Kotaku sign and send it to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom. Commentland will vote for its favourite finalist. We’ll kick this baby off right now, wrap it up on April 5th. Here’s the loot, plus the bonus signed Fallout 3 shirt. Good luck!
Gee, uh, neutral or undecided? I don’t know…from where I’m sitting, I didn’t think the game went down too well. Didn’t really get anyone excited, didn’t sell too many copies. Maybe, Nintendo, you’d be better off leaving the beating of this dead horse and just shift the dev team onto something like Wii Clean. Brawl Sequel Survey [Go Nintendo]
Wanna-be surgeons rejoice! Atlus is bringing Trauma Center back to the Nintendo DS. The sequel has Dr. Stiles and nurse Angie tackle the effects and “unanswered mysteries” of the GUILT Virus from the prequel. There’s new characters as well, along with a tighter tools that will hopefully address the bitching and moaning incurred by the original game’s tool scheme. The game is penciled in for an August release in Japan. Trauma Center: Under The Knife 2 [Jeux France via DS Fanboy]
Lots going on in BioShock. Objectivism, for one, but also lots of other moral/ethical/political stuff as well. Fleshing all of that out into some overblown plot must be tough, right? Nope. Because those are themes, not a plot. And while themes can be as weighty or as wanky as they like, BioShock creator Ken Levine says the plot of a game has to be a lot simpler:
Square Enix still isn’t revealing which platform tri-Ace’s upcoming RPG will appear on. (Hey, maybe they don’t know yet!) In the new issue of Famitsu the game’s platform is listed as TBA. Other new info? Star Ocean 4 is actually a prequel, and the developer originally wanted to call the game Star Ocean 0. Apparently, players will also have a party, and the game’s battle system will be similar to past titles. tri-Ace is considering networked functionality, but nothing’s set in stone so far. No release date, either. Star Ocean 4 Info [IGN via Dtoid][Pic]
GameStop announced their annual financials last week, which we won’t bore you with now. What we will bore you entertain you with, though, are some numbers to come out of the release, which show that 65% of GameStop’s sales of new products (as in, not pre-owned) come from only four companies. Indeed, Nintendo accounted for 21% of all “new product” sales across the company just on their own, with Microsoft (17%) and Sony (16%) not too far behind.
Around a year ago, there was speculation that Pandemic were working on the tie-in game for the upcoming Batman movie. Said speculation was right on the money, as courtesy of IGN (who have since pulled the story, but like an elephant I rarely forget), we have confirmation of the game’s development. Sort of. See, we know Pandemic are developing, and we know EA will – being Pandemic’s new owners – be publishing the game, and…that’s it. No platforms, no name, no bullet points about innovative stealth sections and an open-world Gotham City, nothing. IGN’s story was most likely removed in exchange for a more “official” announcement, though, so more specific information can”t be too far off.
