Does Second Life show any signs of life in Japan? In late March, goo Research online polled 1,091 folks online about their knowledge of Second Life. Keep in mind: This is an internet poll, and it shouldn’t be taken for anything other than that!
Findings include that only 1.3 percent of folks polled are currently playing it. That’s not very many! 5.6 percent used to play. Hit the jump for the full number crunching.
I know the Kotaku US guys are absolutely crazy about cake and cake-related foodstuffs. I’ve never “gotten the fever”, to paraphrase Christoper Walken, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a well-crafted baked treat just like the next moderately insane person.
As a compromise, I’ve managed to meld my love of HP Lovecraft with this Cthulhu-themed dessert, made by the cake-mad raingirllori. Rumour has it that if you try to eat it, you’ll be transported to the Plateau of Leng.

Poor Uwe Boll. Beat up some game nerds and making some shitty movies and suddenly everyone hates your guts. What gives?! Some folks dislike Uwe so much that they’ve created an online petition hoping to do what online petitions typically do: Nothing. That, or convince Dr. Boll to stop making crappy movies. Ha! From an interview with website FEARnet:
Sigh. Refuting opinions against the R18+ classification is really starting to tire me, especially when a little research on the author’s part would save me a lot of time. But hey, that’s what I’m here for.
Take this rant today by Ross Fitzgerald over at The Australian, regarding the SCAG’s decision to consult the public on the R18+ rating.
Ah Pac-Man, my yellow, two-dimensional playmate, is nothing sacred to you? Going by this NZ scratch-and-win lotto ticket, I’d say no.
The main prize is $NZ 50,000, though you can win smaller cash amounts by matching five Pac-Mans in a row (thanks Chalmo). Fruit lovers will be happy to know a cherry instantly gets you NZ $20, while a strawberry nets you $NZ 10.
So, where to next Pac-Man? Powerball? The horses? Keno? When will the madness end!

Well, I am finally back after my two weekend hiatus. That makes three full weeks since I have roamed the hallowed halls of Kotaku Tower. Thankfully, Ash swept my room in my absence and fluffed the straw on my cot so I would be comfortable upon my return.
It was an amazing trip across the country and between the stops at Graceland, catching sight of a 72oz steak, a 4lb hamburger and the Liberace Museum, I even managed to see some video game related things . Arcades in truck stops, game stations in fast food joints and the Spike VGAs, not to mention the myriad video poker machines in Vegas. Sure, you could argue that those aren’t video games, but Xbox LIVE has Texas Hold ‘Em which is basically the same thing. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Reporting to you live from my favourite cafe in San Francisco, I will be bringing you some of the stories from the road mixed in with the regular enormous dearth of news there always is on the weekends and especially around the holidays. Hopefully there will be something in there that will interest you.
I never really thought I’d miss writing twenty four articles a weekend, but damn it’s good to be back
You know how Atari and Ubisoft recently put up a huge catalogue of their games on Steam? Well, they’re for the US to enjoy, and only the US. Be it licensing issues or the huge price disparity, Australia, as well as every other country that isn’t “glorious” enough to be the US, is missing out.
While there’s little we can do directly, don’t let that stop you from join the Rest of World, or RoW, group on Steam’s community site. Hopefully the publishers will learn basic mathematics, take the number of members in the group, times it by the average price of their games available on Steam, and realise just how much cash they’re not getting by being, well, dumb.

This Is What A Water Cooled Xbox 360 Looks Like You know, in case you decide to give it a go. I don’t think it’ll ever be able to stand upright again, but at least it won’t RROD.
