One Million Concurrent WoW Players In China

The9 Limited, the operators of World of Warcraft in China, has announced that they recently achieved a peak of one million players online at the same time. That’s not the fudgy sort of numbers you get for subscribers either – that is one million World of Warcraft accounts online and playing at one time. That’s the biggest number they’ve seen since the game launched there back in 2005. Of course there are 1.3 billion or so people living in China, so a million is just a drop in a bucket, but that’s a very big drop in a absolutely gigantic bucket. To put things in perspective, if a million people stood on your head, your skull would be completely crushed. Them’s skull-crushing numbers right there, and before you go blaming gold farming, keep in mind that these are Chinese servers, not people accessing servers outside of the country, so nya.

Rockstar Flash Fun, Just Like GTA IV, But Not At All

What will we do when GTAIV actually comes out? Play it for 1,000+ hours? How lame. We’d much rather waste our time on zany flash ads that only take 1 minute or 2 a pop. For instance, if you’re as cool as us, you’ll have an awkward conversation with a representative from Goldberg, Ligner & Shyster…which we’re beginning to suspect may be more of an escort service than a law firm, but no harm, no foul.

Hit the jump for 3 quasi-games that will bring a few minutes of fun to a hardcore GTA fan. Oh, and the spastic theme music is coming from the third box. Click “beverage menu” to start and things get a lot quieter.

Grisly Beheading Blamed On Hitman

18-year-old Jean Pierre Orlewicz is currently on trial for first-degree premeditated murder, after he and a friend ambushed 26-year-old Daniel Sorenson last November, stabbing him multiple times in the back before sawing off his head and burning his body. After the prosecution spent the better part of yesterday describing a young man fixated on committing a crime, the defence revealed the real reason behind the teen’s murderous drive. Hitman:

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

With a planned nine straight days of obligation gaming, defined as titles I might not necessarily play on my own time, I think I’ll be taking it easy this weekend, doing my best to re-beat Ikaruga and keeping my hands controller free. I’d beaten the Dreamcast import version of Ikaruga a few months after its release, but I’m a credit feeder, never to be skilled enough to play with default, no-continue settings.

Outside of that, there’s trip planning and taxes to be done, plus the odd housekeeping chore. Expect a very worn out set of Kotaku editors by next weekend, some who might swear games off forever. No joke! What you playing this weekend with your free time?
