Another game joins the Rockstar Games Social Club this September as Rockstar announces the release dates for Midnight Club: Los Angeles and its baby PSP brother, Midnight Club: LA Remix. September 9th is the date that North American players will be blazing down the streets of a fully recreated Los Angeles, with our European friends receiving the game three days later.
I think Lara Croft, I think 90′s platforming, dinosaurs and leaps of faith. You may, however, think of something else. Well, two things. If so, don’t be too disappointed when you see this new, premium 12″ figure from Sideshow, depicting Ms. Croft as not only well-prepared, but well-dressed. She’s packing ten weapons/accessories, 30+ points of articulation and three pairs of interchangeable hands, and will be available Q4 for around USD$80. Nice boots.
Gun plus chainsaw? There must be more to that than simply “looks cool.” There is! Epics president Mike Capps says while he was originally against the idea, he told a Comic Con panel: The reason [it]exists is because our characters are so bloody expensive to draw..
Meaning that they have more detail close-up than say Halo characters. Fair enough! Though we prefer “looks cool.” Elsewhere Capps says the sequel have battles that feel more massive in scale. Hope he doesn’t have another dry explanation for that. Gears of War 2 Details [GameSpy via videogaming247]
Grand Theft Auto creator and Crackdown mastermind David Jones points out the obvious: Games are pricey to make! New IPs have gotten so expensive that they’re quickly approaching $US50 million plus! Here’s the quote: Crackdown wasn’t that long ago and our development budget was something like USD 50 million, and even that to me now, I don’t know if I could do anything for much less than that.
He’s probably not alone. Think about it: Fifty million bucks to make a game. That used to be a lot for a Hollywood movie — even with big star salaries, special effects, deluxe trailers and all that crap. I’d Struggle [Games Industry]
Gears of War didn’t have a demo for you all to pore over, and it went on to do OK for itself. So there’s really no need to go changing things for the sequel, with Epic announcing that they’ve no plans to release a demo for the upcoming shooter. Epic’s Tanya Jessen told Shacknews: [There are]no plans for a demo. The reason being that it’s been such a fast turnaround. A two year production cycle, for a game of this calibre, is really short.
Look, they’re in a hurry, so just trust them, OK? No Gears of War 2 Demo Planned [Shacknews]
Yes, Japanese people do get divorced. It’s just that American families get divorced more. This confuses Shigeru Miyamoto. He didn’t make Wii Fit for single parents! According to CNET’s Crave blog:
It’s unlikely, but some of you out there may use a dial-up connection on a semi-regular basis. Hell, maybe even a regular basis. If so, you’re probably used to waiting an age for stuff to download, so why not give your ceaseless read-press F5-wait-repeat cycle a miss and try something a little more laborious. Like connecting to Xbox Live. Instructables have the how-to guide, and all you need is a a PC hooked up to these internets via 56k and an ethernet cable. Oh, and some time on your hands. Sigh. Producer of the Dragonball movie Tim Van Rellim has revealed that Goku will apparently die in the next Dragonball flick adapted by Hollywood. (Bwah? Mistranslation?) Oh, m’kay, sure, whatever! War of the Worlds actor Justin Chatwin is filling out the orange training suit in the upcoming movie. While originally thought the film was pushed back to next year, the producer now says they’re gunning for a late summer or October release. About shooting the flim in Mexico, Van Rellim says: More »
Uwe Boll likes games. Likes making movies based on games. Likes making movies based on games involving swords, castles and magic. Guy’s got a track record. So Uwe Boll making the World of Warcraft movie, it just fits, right? Did for Boll. Didn’t for Blizzard. Boll says:
Last week, Microsoft announced that sales of the 360 in Europe had doubled since the introduction of recent price cuts . No doubting the accuracy of their claims, but without actual sales figures for the 360 or its competitors, we had our doubts as to their importance. Doubts that are looking fairly justified today, with both SCEE and ChartTrack confirming to Reg Hardware that while 360 sales have indeed doubled over the past four weeks, it hasn’t meant much in Britain, with the PS3 is still outselling it, something it’s been doing so for the past 15 weeks. They then go on to say that even if you combined 360 and PS3 sales the Wii would still be “healthily” ahead on sales, but that’s something you probably could have figured out on your own.
