Rockstar Confirms GTA IV Region Locked?

The Australian GTA IV not the full deal? Neither is the NZ version? Why not just import it then?

Looks like Rockstar thought of that. According to an email many readers have received from Rockstar in the States, the game is “region locked for [its]specific territories”. Which consoles this includes and whether it applies to the multiplayer we’re not sure.

The email goes on to reinforce Rockstar Oz’s earlier statement regarding the changes to our version of the game being minor. Kotaku AU’s attempts to get an answer from Rockstar Oz regarding the region locking have been met with failure, but this looks official to me.

Just got a reply from Game UK regarding my 360 copy:

“Hi

Thanks for your email.

This game bought in the UK will work on Australian consoles.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us again.”

But the email in the given link did not mention the version of the game,
i.e. PS3 or Xbox360 version. Which versions are they refering to?

Noted that we do not receive information about its online compatibilty, so
for the US PS3 version, the multiplayer mode may only be connected to the
US server.

Will GTA IV (pal) work on a US xbox? I have an US xbox and ordered my GTA from play-asia but it doesnt get SENT til MAY 2!!!! and I am extremely inpatient. So i was going to buy GTA IV today but i heared that it may be region. so if any one knows for sure please tell me!!!! thank you

As far as I can tell, I’m playing my friend’s ps3 from hong kong with the Australian Version of the game. I can play multiplayer and stuff, so I don’t believe they are talking about the ps3 version.

All the games that i play at school are blooked so if you can get all the games to work that will be fine
