A Noodle Question

11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Crecente From: Bashcraft RE: Ugh Soba or udon? I made two damn tasty bowls of udon for dinner today. Getting so good at heating stuff up! Google Maps Can’t Resist Liberty City

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Liberty City’s a big place. Huge place. Lots of roads, lots of places to see, lots of ways to get lost. Lucky, then, that your woeful Liberty City navigation skills can be bailed out just as easily as your real-world navigation skills, with Google Maps helping set up an interactive map of GTA IV. On it, users can post the exact location of stuff like restaurants, ATMs, easter eggs and strip clubs, should you ever feel up to driving around Liberty City while checking the laptop perched precariously on your lap. Rockstar Support: Fix for GTA IV Could Be Any Minute or in Days

11:00PM Brian Crecente | After waiting two days for a word, any word from Rockstar about the problems plaguing some Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 owners trying to play Grand Theft Auto IV, I returned to the phone this morning to give tech support another call and see how things are on their end. This time through I talked to a person who walked me through a much longer list of things I should check to make sure it wasn’t effecting my gameplay: Did my harddrive have enough space? Do I have the latest firmware? Is my screen saver turned off? Is vibration turned off? Are my video settings turned to 720? Is Autosave off? More »

Valve Would “Love” To Micro-Transaction You

10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Micro-transactions aren’t the future, they’re the now. While companies like EA are totally on board with nickel and diming players for added content, some companies aren’t. Take, Valve for instance. It hasn’t gone micro-transactional. But would it? Let’s hear what Valve’s Dough Lombardi has to say: If we ever get a game that fits that, we’d love to do that. I’d love to have a game that we gave away saying ‘however much you want to invest in this, this is yours’. If? If?! No, Doug, you must mean when. Left 4 Dead Interview [Play] [Pic] More »

More Prince Of Persia Info, Screen

10:20PM Luke Plunkett | The announcement of a new Prince of Persia game was nice and all, but it didn’t really tell us much about the game itself. The first feature article on the title didn’t either, because it was in a French mag, and we can barely muster a parlez-vous between us. It’s since been lovingly translated by the Eurogamer crew, however, which means we now know some stuff! Stuff like: the game’s an all-new story, with no relation to previous titles, it’ll feature an open-world element, and will place emphasis on challenging 1v1 fights instead of the standard hack-n-slash fare. All that (and a lot more) sounds terribly exciting, so please, hit the link below for the rest of the translated info. New Prince of Persia previewed [Eurogamer] [Pic] More »

The Wii Has Many, Many Crummy Games

10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | You are looking at a chart. Congratulations. It shows the GameRankings for Xbox 360, PS3 and the Nintendo Wii. Looking at all the games released for those consoles, the GameRankings for them seem to have the biggest difference for the Wii. Out of the 189 Wii games released, 37 per cent have been ranked “poor” with an average ranking of 60 per cent or lower, while 11 per cent are “good” with an average ranking of 80 percent or higher. That 11 per cent is 20 games — four of which are PS2/GameCubes ports. Those 16 games, though, are pretty dang great. The rest is… Nintendo Seal of Quality anyone? GTA IV Breaks British Sales Record, 360 Outsells PS3

9:30PM Luke Plunkett | No surprises here. Grand Theft Auto IV has set a new record for first-day sales in the UK, shifting 609,000 units in a single day. This beats the previous record of 501,000, set by San Andreas in 2004. In terms of which version did the best business, ChartTrack report that the 360 one slightly outsold the PS3 version, 335,000 to 274,000. To put this in further perspective, the 360 version alone outsold Halo 3, which could “only” move 266,000 last year, so yes, this game is some steamy, hot hot hot hotcakes. Capcom Fuck Clover’s Sad Panda Corpse [Updated]

9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | How does Okami director Hideki Kamiya feel about the Wii port? He’s pretty bummed out! The Wii version has cut the staff end credits from the game, which was released in North America earlier this month. The original game was developed by now dissolved Capcom subsidiary Clover and ported by Daxter developer Ready at Dawn. According to Kamiya: I really don’t know what under pretext the credits were cut… What do you all think? I feel dejected, and not only because my own name has been erased from my creation. Of course we have pride in our work and we want to scream “We made this!” from the top of our lungs. But more than that, the fact that they cut the entire staff is utterly deplorable. More »

The Etch-A-Sketchist On GTA IV

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | The Etch-A-Sketchist is a talented kid. We’ve featured his stuff many times before, but you know what? It’s GTA IV week, so let’s feature him again. This is his take on the game’s box art, which I’d write more about, but it’s hard to type when you can’t stop applauding. Grand Theft Auto IV [The Etch-A-Sketchist] More »

Sees Shit Economy Bringing Console Price Cuts

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Good news! The US economy is going in the toilet, and we may get cheaper game consoles because of it!! Says Activision CEO Bobby “Robert” Kotick: With the rising costs of fuel and food and housing, it is more difficult to go out and buy a $US399 console, and I think it’s going to put pressure on the console manufacturers to reduce their prices. This applies to everyone but Nintendo. Elsewhere Kotick thinks that EA – Take Two merger could be a “challenge.” He says, “When you think about one company in control of the sports category, with no competition from anybody else, that could be a challenge.” Kotick is a regular ol’ quote machine! Opinions? He’s got ‘em. Game Console Prices May Be Cut [Reuters] More »
