Japanese Kids Bring Too Much Shit To School
11:40PM Brian Ashcraft | To: Crecente From: Ashcraft Kid had a field trip today. So, it wasn’t a regular day, but even on regular days, Mini-Bash is lugging a buncha stuff with him. Here’s what I was told he needed to bring by his teacher: Two hats (one school hat, one outside hat), a thermos of tea, two pairs of shoes (one outside, the other inside), a hankerchief, a mat to sit on while outside, a towel, a packet of tissues, a towel to dry his hands while, a cup, a toothbrush, a bag for the cup and toothbrush, a lunchbox with packed lunch and his school name badge. When I picked him up at school, the teacher told me I didn’t need to pack his school attendance book because teachers don’t check it when the kids go on field trips. :( What you missed last night Metal Gear Solid 4 Gun Metal Grey market New PSP Colour Europe’s new DS colours Capcom vs. Anime DQIV coming! New PSP Colour, Only In Special Madden Bundle
11:05PM Luke Plunkett | Sony have just announced that on August 12, they’ll be releasing a special PSP hardware bundle, built around this year’s handheld version of Madden. For $US 200, you’ll get Madden 09, “NFL: In Just One Play” on UMD, a voucher to download the excellent Beats from the PlayStation Store, a 1GB memory stick and, most importantly, a new “Metallic Blue” PSP. The colour’s a bit so-so for me (I’m still thinking about summery drinks), but for $US 200, that’s a deal so sweet we’ve gotta use italics. Pic of the full bundle follows. More »
Unreleased Limited MGS4 PS3 Bundles Go Grey Market
11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | $US 9,999.99? An extreme example! Though the Special Limited Edition Gun Metal Grey PS3 MGS4 bundle is popping up on online auction site eBay. The average starting price is over $US 900, which is more than Konami’s $US 599.99 sticker tag for the pack. Not exactly sure how this works as the bundles haven’t actually been shipped to customers or even eBay’s policy on this (we imagine frowny faces). Always a shame to see profiteers move in like this! But we imagine this will persist as long as the machines are hard to get and folks are willing to part with their money. Gun Metal Grey? More like gun metal grey market. A Wii Game You Can Watch
10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Sure, the Nintendo Wii can’t play movie DVDs, but it will soon be playing a SEGA published “sound novel” 428. Developed by Chunsoft, the interactive suspense yarn is set in Shibuya and is told from the point of view of several different characters. “Sound novels” typically show images or clips and players click through them kinda like interactive television. Chunsoft, best known for the first five Dragon Quest games and Mysterious Dungeon games, has released several sound novels for the PlayStation platform, including recent PS3 title Imabikisou. That game is getting a Wii port, FYI. 428 stars Yuto Nakamura, Hironari Amano and Narumi Konno. 428 article [Wii @ Everyday] More »
Hang-On Shirt Bundled With Class, Not Master System
10:20PM Luke Plunkett | What better way to show your love for the world’s finest pack-in game than with these Super Hang-On shirts, the latest in King of Games’ “Get Ready” line of Sega tees. It comes in a fetching shade of black, like you can see above, but also in white, should you be the type to make it all the way through a ribs night without a stain. As with all KoG tees, expect small sizes, hefty prices and limited availability, so don’t dilly-dally. SUPER HANG-ON “WORLD TOUR 1987 T-SHIRT” [King of Games] More »
Lucky Star Used For Prostitution Advert
10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Manga Lucky Star is pretty popular in Japan! The manga’s characters play video games, and Lucky Star itself has already gotten a couple of DS games as well as a PlayStation 2 visual novel. Nerds love Lucky Star. Probably why the owner of this Osaka “delivery health” shop (think outcall call girl business) decided to use characters Kagami and Miyuki. Also, Kagami is a fan of shooting games — as in video game shooting games. Ah, nevermind. 俺の嫁がデリヘルwwwwww [Izakaya Ichiban] More »
This Is Nintendo’s Excuse For Smash Bros’ European Delay
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Laurent Fischer is senior marketing director at Nintendo Europe. Laurent knows why Smash Bros. Brawl will be released five months later in Europe than it was in Japan. The answer? Exactly what you thought it would be: localisation timeframes, along with some bonus, very vague stuff about Nintendo’s production capabilities. Answers Europeans are very accustomed to, and probably getting quite sick of, as they’re only pointing out a disease’s symptoms, not giving them news of a possible cure. Dragon Quest IV DS Coming to America
9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | It hasn’t been officially announced, but a Square Enix Dragon Quest IV teaser site has popped up online. That’s kind of official! Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen is getting an American September 16th release. That’s not all! The Square Enix site also lists Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride and Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie as well, but doesn’t provide drop dates. So, just like Japan, the US should be getting those as well. This should makes some folks very happy. English Site Open [Rpgmonkey@NeoGAF via Siliconera] More »Europe Gets Three New DS Colours
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Oh, of course it wasn’t a rumour. It’s fact. Europe will be getting three new shades of DS next month, with Nintendo confirming that a red, lime green and light blue DS Lite will go on sale on June 13. The light blue’s not much of a surprise, since it’s been available in other markets for a while, and the red is just fine, but having had a day to think it over, that lime green one’s simply wonderful. Has me thinking summery drinks, and lazy sunsets. More »
