Last Guy Released Globally Later This Month (With Extra Cities)

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Cheap/quick/rad PSN game The Last Guy is already out in Japan, leaving everyone outside of Japan wondering when they’ll get their turn. Looks like your patience skills won’t be needed for this one, as Sony’s Hong Kong site has the game pegged for a global release in “August”. It also says the game will ship with “many other famous cities”, which we’ll just take to mean that the different regional variants will ship with different, more appropriate cities. After all, not like it’s hard to come up with a new level. Tramp through major cities, dodge some zombies and save the world! [SCE Hong Kong] More »

PS3 Left Out of Left 4 Dead

11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Rumours have been swirling on the internet that Valve’s eagerly awaited zombie shooter Left 4 Dead for the Xbox 360 and PC would also be hitting the PLAYSTATION 3. Seems those rumours have been smashed pretty hard for the time being by Valve’s Doug Lombardi, who states: There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production. Hey, maybe there will be one day! But that day is not today. Left 4 Dead on the PS3? [IGN Thanks, Duong!] More »

10:40PM Luke Plunkett | War Has Changed – These days, even Sackboys can be pulled in for a spot of wet work. More »

Dead Rising Wii *Might* Get To 100 Zombies At A Time

10:20PM Luke Plunkett | Dead Rising was an average game made great by throwing, literally, hundreds and hundreds of zombies at you. The upcoming Wii version, being a Wii game, is obviously not going to feature hundreds and hundreds of zombies, putting the whole “makes an average game a great one” thing in serious jeopardy. But how many will it feature? Well, Capcom are hoping that they’ll be able to squeeze 100 on there at a time. Still not a patch on the 360 version, but 100 on-screen bad guys for what is ostensibly a last-gen title would still be one hell of a technical achievement! The Last Guy Review: Run From The Zombie Monsters!!

10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | You are the chosen one, a zombie straight from the Himalayas, here to save everyone’s butts. The Last Guy: Japan Premium is a 314MB PSN title from Sony’s Japan Studio. The story is simple: A purple ray hit the Earth, turning everyone who was outside into monsters or zombies. Everyone indoors was spared, and it’s your job to move them from the buildings through the narrow streets of Tokyo’s Asakusa (thank you Google Earth!), avoiding the monsters and the zombies and moving your group to the Escape Zone where an United Rescue Force airship will pick them up. So here you go, our Last Guy review: More »

Second Halo Movie Script Lives Long Enough To Generate Concept Art

9:30PM Luke Plunkett | That first Halo movie project? With Neil Blomkamp and Peter Jackson? So dead. Never. Being. Made. But, as we already know, Halo nerd Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean, GI Joe) has stepped into the vacuum left by Jackson & co, and has written a script based on the events of the first Halo novel, Fall of Reach. That script’s apparently been kicking around Hollywood for a little while now, and has a few people very interested in the project, to the point where some concept art is being drawn up “as part of an eventual presentation to Microsoft”. Film site Latino Review claim to have gotten hold of some of this art, and will be posting it over the next few weeks. Which, provided our chains aren’t being yanked, should be a hoot. The first piece is a little…fantastical, though LR say it’s actually in the script/book. Click through for the full thing. More »

‘No Plans for Future DLC’ For Final Fantasy My Life As A King

9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Square Enix really seems to have delivered a quality experience with WiiWare title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. In April, DLC for the city-building game was first released. DLC items were priced from 100 to 800 Wii Points and included buildings, new dungeons and ways to customise their avatar. Game site 1Up asked the game’s director, Kenichiro Yuji, if there were plans for more downloadable content. He replied: All DLC has been available since May 30. That’s everything for now, and we have no plans for future DLC at the moment. Wonder why that is… Afterthoughts: Final Fantasy CC: My Life as a King [1Up via VG247] More »

Warhawk Trophies (and Other New Stuff) Coming At The End Of The Month

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | When the PS3 trophy system was announced in June, Warhawk was to be one of the first pre-trophy games to be brought up to speed. They weren’t fibbing! Sony have announced that, as part of Warhawk’s 1.5 update, over 50 trophies will be introduced into the game, and they’re being offered for achievements as diverse as hosting a game for four hours, playing a “perfect deathmatch” (come 1st, no deaths) and shooting down aircraft with a tank. The update will also introduce “custom music tracks from the Home Menu”, new paint schemes and insignia and a range of tutorial missions to help new players out before jumping online. It’ll be released on August 27. More »

You Betcha We’re Getting A Hardy Boys Wii Game

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | The announcement that you knew somewhere in the back of your brain for that the game that you’ve all been waiting for is here: Yes, that’s right, the Wii is getting a Hardy Boys game. Titled Hardy Boys: The Hidden Theft, the game is already slated for the PC and follows Frank and Joe as they investigate a vault burglary — only to find themselves at the centre of a major investigation! Jesse McCartney and Cody Linley (who?) from Hannah Montana (oh) will do the voicing duties. Don’t think of this as a point and click adventure but a waggle and click one. Xbox Live Phishing Scam

7:30PM Luke Plunkett | Our first instinct? Let this one go. If you’re dumb enough to fall for a phishing scam, you deserve what you get. But then, following further consideration, we changed our minds. Because that would be mean, and we’re only occasionally mean, not constantly mean. So be warned: if you get a friends message on Xbox Live – like the one above – telling you to go to loginbox to collect free MS points, don’t. Because you won’t.
