Where Peter Stormare Sings The Praises Of Mercenaries 2

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | The video gaming content of this clip gives me an excuse to throw this up. It’s an EA game, it’s a current game, it’s a reasonably high-profile game. But really, I’m just enjoying the fact it gives me a chance to post a clip of Peter Stormare busting out a rousing rendition of “Oh No You Didn’t”. More »

Things Looking Up For Eidos

11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Publisher Eidos has been having a tough time of late. Earlier this year, the company slashed 25 percent of its workforce and revamped its internal structure to a more studio-based one. While Eidos has been quiet since February about how things are panning out, creative director Ian Livingstone says: “The restructuring is going very well. We have been very upfront about what we are as a business and where we are going. We have put in place a studio-led and product-centric operation and everybody is now happily on board… Having a focused team based around our cornerstone franchises means one team based in the same office, country and time zone so that they can explore every opportunity directly alongside the game’s development. Well, that’s good. The State of Play at Eidos [Edge via MCVUK] More »

Nintendo Is Working On Something Better Than Wii HDD

10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Club Nintendo, the official Nintendo mag for Latin America, has interviews with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and company exec Reggie Fils-Aime. According to translations from game site Go Nintendo, Miyamoto says there won’t be any more peripherals — there’s too many already. The game creator won’t say if Wii Motion Plus will be in future Zelda games, but confirms what we already knew: They are working on new Zelda titles. While Miyamoto says to expect an announcement about hard drive solutions in the future (but doesn’t confirm an hard drive), Reggie says Nintendo is not making a hard drive and will come up with a better solution. Reggie also says a DS redesign is when sales go down, which seems to mean that we shouldn’t get our hopes up at the present moment. Reggie also says that Animal Crossing is not casual and that the GTA DS game is for the core crowd. About Microsoft avatar, he adds that “copying is a way of flattering, so we’re very flattered.” Hrm… Better solution than an actual hard drive? Why not, you know, just release a hard drive? Reggie says no hard drive…but a better solution, while Miyamoto says enough with the peripherals [Go Nintendo via CVG] [Pic] More »

Rock Band’s European Price Gets A Little Less Outrageous

10:20PM Luke Plunkett | Rock Band’s European pricing doesn’t take the piss, it extracts it in industrial quantities, packages it with ruthless efficiency then ships it to consumers across the Old World. So it should please you to know that it’s in line for a price cut, with the instrument bundles coming down from £130/€170 to £110/€140. Still outrageous, yes, just a little less outrageous! Oh, MTV would also like you to know that not only will Rock Band finally be appearing on Wii, PS2 and PS3 between September 22 and September 29, it’ll be appearing in more countries than the United Kingdom, France and Germany (like Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria and, yes, Luxembourg!).

Miley Cyrus Seems To Enjoy Rock Band 2

10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | The last time we saw Miley Cyrus, she was smashing a Guitar Hero guitar. Now, she’s back! And this time, not smashing, but singing. At the MTV Video Music Awards, she was shilling the MTV Games published Rock Band 2 with her rendition of ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’. So, if you’ve got a music game that needs promoting, call her agent! 9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Right now, The Behemoth are busy fixing the online problems plaguing the fantastic Castle Crashers. Once they’re done with that, they’ll move on. Move on to giving us all new stuff to play with! Writing on their company blog, they’ve revealed that at least two new playable characters – the King and the Necromancer – will be made available as DLC, as will at least one new weapon, the chainsaw. Nintendo Announces… Wii/DS WiFi Router (Bwah?)

9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Nintendo has announced a “Nintendo WiFi Network Adapter” for the Nintendo Wii… which already has WiFi. While some users have difficulty getting their Wii consoles online, this should hopefully streamline that. The adaptor will go on sale September 18th in Japan for ¥5,800 (US$ 53) on Nintendo’s homepage. This wireless LAN router can be used with the Nintendo Wii and DS as well as PCs and other devices. The Nintendo WiFi Network Adaptor has a switch for three modes on the back: “Router”, “Bridge” and “Auto”. “Router” is self-explanatory, while “Bridge” connects to another router and then communicates with the Nintendo DS and Wii. “Auto” apparently can automatically switch the household’s network over automatically. Oh, and those hoping for an HDD for the Wii, tough crap. WiiやDSを気軽にネット接続! [Famitsu via NeoGAF via Go Nintendo] More »

Duck Hunt Invades Red Bull Flugtag

8:30PM Luke Plunkett | This is creepy in its poignancy, if only because I had no idea how many wacky sporting events Red Bull were putting their name to. Reader md galaxy was at the Red Bull Flugtag in Chicago on the weekend, Flugtag being the word the kids (and the Germans) use these days to describe a Birdman Rally. And while the entrants he spied were the usual mix of serious engineering students and drunken buffoons, one team stood out amongst the rest. The Nintendudes. And their tandem Duck Hunt entry, which involved not just the it-might-fly duck, but the no-way-in-hell-this-is-flying dog and the utterly un-aerodynamic duo of a Nintendo Entertainment System and NES Zapper. Really Fake Pikachu For Really Big Bucks

7:30PM Brian Ashcraft | HOLY SHIT. THAT LOOKS SO REAL. A while back, a Japanese Yahoo! seller put 20 “limited edition” Pikachus on the auction block with the crazy closing price of ¥99,000,002,805,760 (over US$ 900 million). According to the seller: Captured one-by-one only after you order to ensure its good health! Fantastic! These Pikachus were straight from the Pikachu forest, and the seller wrote that a 60-minute video showing how to raise and care for the Pikachu would be included as well. While we’re guessing the seller didn’t successfully unload any of this “limited edition” for US$ 900 million. Man, some people are so cheap. Pika Auction [Yahoo Auction Watch Thanks, Matt!] More »
