Man Steals Cheque, Kills Parents, Buys Xbox

3:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sad story. In 2007, Russell Bramlage killed his parents, Dr. Terry Bramlage and Lynda Bramlage, after they confronted him when he stole two cheques from them. Shot them both in the back, with a shotgun, in cold blood. Three days after the murders, seemingly without a care in the world, he cashed one of the cheques in and bought…an original Xbox. Bramlage was later arrested by police, and pleaded guilty to murder charges, for which he’ll face up to 20 years in prison without parole. Parents’ killer: ‘I just snapped’ [nky] More »

You Got Hurt While Gaming?

3:00PM Brian Ashcraft | F-R-I-D-A-Y. Time for, that’s right, TELL US DAMMIT. here’s how it works: We ask a question, you answer it. Simple and no strings attached! This isn’t some marketing survey or whatever. It’s an emotional investment in you. Yes, we’re interested in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know fucktons about us — more than you even want to, we’re sure. But, hey, we’d like to know about you. That way you won’t be some faceless blob — and we might feel a tinge of guilt when we ban your arse. Or not, because really we’re incapable of human emotion. Not sure! More »

PAL PlayStation Store Update: Tardiness Is Next To Godliness

2:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sorry this wasn’t up yesterday, but it wasn’t our fault! The PAL PSN update was well behind schedule after Sony experienced some “technical issues” getting it all up. Those issues have been sorted, the update’s up, here’s the pick of what’s in it: Metallica, Rock Band, FIFA 09. For a more comprehensive breakdown, click through. More »

Mercenaries 2 Demo Out On XBL, Coming On PSN (Update)

1:40PM Luke Plunkett | Sure, Mercenaries 2 is already out, but you might be the hesitant type. Not the type to trust reviews written by others, more the type to trust impressions of your own. If that’s you, and you’ve got an Xbox 360, get downloading, because a Mercenaries 2 demo should be up on Xbox Live as you read this. If you’re a PS3 owner, you’re stuck with the console’s weekly cycles, and have to wait for next Thursday’s bulk update. More »

GTA IV Not Meeting Sales Expectations?

1:20PM Luke Plunkett | No, you read that right. There are fears that, despite already being one of the biggest-selling games of all time, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV isn’t selling as well as overlords Take-Two would have hoped, with the game slipping to 46th on the NPD sales charts in August. CNN Money reports that, as the silent, secret takeover talks between EA and Take-Two continue, these “sluggish” sales are hurting Take-Two’s only real negotiating point. With 8.5 million copies of the game already sold, this is all a bit hard to believe, but then we weren’t the ones drinking the kool-aid at T2 HQ when coming up with official sales targets. More »

Casting Agent Confirms Rock Band 2 TV Show

12:20PM Luke Plunkett | Earlier in the week, we reported on a Craigslist ad, claiming that it was for a Rock Band-based reality television show. Looked pretty solid, but hey, it was on Craigslist, so we tagged it as a rumour. Today, however, we’ve been able to confirm the show’s existence, via casting website gotcast. While it’s largely the same ad that ran in Craigslist, gotcast is a legitimate casting service, and they’ve even got a shot of the show’s imaginative logo and title, which is…Rock Band 2: The Show. It’ll be officially launched next week, at the Alice Cooper/Sebastian Bach show we told you about earlier. More »

There are no hoops to jump through (and no purchase is required) that we can see. Just submit your info and go. Good luck! More »

Here Are GTA IV PC’s Recommended System Requirements

11:00AM Michael McWhertor | If you plan on building (or upgrading) a PC around the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV, the official Games For Windows web site has a helpful rough estimate for what kind of hardware you’re gonna need. To make it look as pretty as the version we saw, which ran just shy of 2560 x 1600, expect to bring some serious computing power to the table. While the minimum system requirements for the Windows version of GTA IV are still a mystery, the recommended requirements are yours for the studying. Recommended operating system? Windows XP SP2, natch. For the hard stuff, make the jump. More »
