Mario Voice Negs Mario Cartoons

Nintendo’s put Mario in games, tons of games. And back in the day (man, I hate that phrase), they put him in cartoons and a crummy live-action movie, too. And with an Animal Crossing feature animated film hitting Japanese movie theatres last year, that might mean Nintendo is thinking of doing a Mario movie. Er, no says the character’s voice actor Charles Martinet:

I would absolutely love it, if they did that. I don’t anticipate that, though, because… Mr. Miyamoto is a genius, he really knows… not only the ins and outs of the entertainment value of Mario, and these characters that he creates… but he knows sort of what he wants to do with them. I don’t think he really wants to create a cartoon series for TV or other… DVDs, or that sort of thing, because the value for him is in the games… I think. You know, I can’t really speak for him. But you know, if he changes his mind and he says “You know something? I want to make a cartoon,” I’ll be jumping up and down.

Hopefully saying “It’sa me” over and over and over again.

Super Street Fighter II HD Might Actually Come Out In 2008

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. It’s borderline vapourware, yeah? We saw a ton of stuff for it, a very long time ago, and have heard little/nothing since. Worst case, it’s to be disappeared, best case, delayed until 2009, right? Maybe not! The game’s associate producer, Rey Jimenez, has told The Street Fighter Blog that they’re in the “home stretch”, just cleaning up a few minor bugs, and that “barring any unforeseen catastrophic event” the game will be out in the year of our Lord, 2008. Considering this game’s track record we’ll believe it when we see it, but until then, we have hope!

Brett Ratner Must Have A Brain Injury

Hey, Brett Ratner. A Guitar Hero movie is the stupidest idea we’ve ever heard. Nobody would want it made. Movie-goers, gamers, studio executives, actors, nobody. Not even Activision, who have told the deluded Hollywood director that, no, thanks, they’re not interested in him turning the series into a film. “I’d really like to do it, but they’re not letting me…I expressed my interest, but because it’s such a success, it’s like now there’s no reason to make a movie about it”, Ratner told EW. No, Brett, there was never a reason to make a movie about it. Let it go. Brett Ratner says ‘Guitar Hero’ movie isn’t happening…yet [EW][Image]

PS3 Launch Message ‘A Little Too Zealous’

The PS3 launch was rough. Real rough. Like, the roughest. After an executive reshuffling (that shuffled PlayStation father Ken Kutaragi out of the company), Sony seems like its on terra firma. Things are turning around! But looking back at that launch mess, current Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai says:

Interview – Haden Blackman, Force Unleashed Front Man

You owe Force Unleashed to Haden Blackman. He may be all modest about the team effort that went into making this game over the last four years – but this is the guy that held the hands of the entire team and reminded them what Force Unleashed is all about: kicking the shit out of people with the Force (or “kicking butt,” if you like the vanilla version they kept chanting in all those developer diaries).

“We can make this happen,” Haden told them, and it looks like he was right.

The Force Unleashed making-of book details Haden and his team’s long struggle to get this game made. There were tons of other concept ideas that got axed, a billion technical hurdles and all kinds of unforeseen nightmares to get past. I asked Haden which scrapped idea was his favourite and he immediately said he liked the idea where you would have been playing as a Wookiee.

Wii Hacked To Run Copied Game Discs

Hard proof’s still thin on the ground with this one, so exercise caution, but it all looks solid enough. The clip above introduces the (not quite ready for release) Wii Backup Loader. Run from the Homebrew Channel, it lets you load modified ISO files on a DVD, so they’ll play on your Wii. Or, yeah, to use less innocent-sounding terminology, it’ll load pirated Wii games, so they’ll play on your Wii.

Molyneux’s Next Game Idea is ‘Far More Terrifying’ (Huh?)

Oh ho ho. Peter Molyneux is once again being Peter Molyneux. He hasn’t even gotten Fable II out the door yet, and he’s already hyping his next game. “I won’t tell you what we’re doing next; I’m not allowed to,” Molyneux said. “But it’s a single, pure thought and so simple that it’s actually far more terrifying…” Bwah? Continuing, Molyneux told game site Multiplayer:

I think a lot of my games in the past, I’ve been like a cook [and I]just keep shoving ingredients in the pot thinking ‘oh, I need more of this, more of that.’ I never tasted it, and then normally it tasted a bit weird at the end. And now what I’ve realised is it’s not the number of features you’ve got in the game, it’s the way those features work together.

Translation, please. Anyone? Anyone?

And You Think There Are Too Many Guitar Hero Games NOW?

Wait til you see the future! During their analyst’s day conference call earlier today, Activision announced their intent to run the Guitar Hero brand into the ground. While Bobby Kotick said in May that they want to continue to “expand” the franchise, they’ve today got specific, saying that means they want 3x the number of Guitar Hero games on the market in 2010, by bringing in more and more developers to work on the series. Yeah. Three times. There’ll have been three Guitar Hero games in 2008 by the time Christmas rolls around, so you do the math. Guitar Hero: Timbaland, coming soon!

New Home Trailer: Parlour Games, Themed Rooms

Here you go, a new trailer for the PS3′s Home. It shows how you connect to a multiplayer PS3 game via Home’s “PSP”, as well as some of the themed rooms built around certain games. The Uncharted one looks more Cocktail than Uncharted, but that Warhawk sand table is a concept we’d like to see plenty more developers copy.
