Here’s When Mirror’s Edge Will Be Out
11:20PM Luke Plunkett | EA just rattled our mailbox, let us know when Mirror’s Edge will be out. If you’re in North America, the date’s November 11. If you’re in Europe, the date’s November 14. Good news! Oh, good news with a catch: those dates are for the 360 and PS3 versions. The PC version’s been pushed back until “later in the winter”. Bummer. Additionally, they announced that a console demo will be made available prior to the game’s launch, though a date wasn’t disclosed. Presser follows. More »Condemned 2 Ads Get Banned
11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | UK watchdog group Advertising Standards Agency has outlawed two SEGA Condemned 2 ads for being “brutal” and “realistic”. The ads were in the post-9pm and post-11pm time slots and received nine complaints — with three stating that the ads were “inappropriate for broadcast at any time”. States the ASA: We noted in particular that both ads showed a man punching another on the floor and blood splattering on the screen as a man was beaten with a club and considered viewers were likely to find those scenes offensive and distressing and to see them as condoning real violence and cruelty. It only takes nine complaints for ads to get banned? ‘Brutal’ Sega ads banned [MCVUK] More »‘PS3 Is Waiting For Defining Title’
10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Gather around everyone! It’s Peter Molyneux talking time. Oh boy, do we ever love Peter Molyneux talking time. In today’s episode, the Fable 2 designer tells us where the PS3 currently stands. Says Molyneux: It is always one or two games which define a platform — it’s the same for the Wii, and the PlayStation 2… I think the PlayStation 3 is still waiting for that definition title that represents the platform – and I think that’s what hardware manufacturers need to do, find that defining title… Nintendo did a brilliant job of doing that at launch with games like Wii Sports and Wii Play — maybe Fable 2 is a defining title. But you are talking to the proud father of this game, so you can’t ask me to be tremendously objective. No, of course not. 10:20PM Luke Plunkett | In an interview with Rolling Stone, former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash gets chatty about Guitar Hero. Talk the Aerosmith version, talks the Metallica version, then talks about a version we didn’t know yet existed, saying Neversoft are “doing a Hendrix one, which is great”. You know, it would be great! If that’s indeed the case. Course, Slash being a rock star, and not a games developer/Activision PR representative, he could just be talking about the recent announcement from Activision that several Hendrix tracks would be appearing in Guitar Hero: World Tour. First Impression of Wii-mote: WTF?
10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | All the Peter Moore you can handle! In today’s latest Guardian fireside chat with the businessman, SEGA-turned-Xbox-turned-EA exec Peter Moore talks about how he was already an EA employee when he took the stage at E3 2007 and bungled Rock Band (only Bill Gates, Robbie and Steve Ballmer knew he was leaving) or how he felt his “Things break” remark was twisted (apparently the actual quote was taken outta context). Moore also divulges what his first impression of seeing the Wii-mote: More »Here’s Why Brothers In Arms Was Delayed
9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway was originally due in 2006. It’ll be out next week, in 2008, so there’s been a fairly sizeable delay on Gearbox’s end. What caused the holdup? According to Gearbox, it was a combination of the multiplatform development and the Unreal Engine 3.0. They bought the engine off the shelf, and having never developed for any PlayStation console, let alone the PS3, soon realised they’d bitten off more than they could chew. Cue the delays. Game director Jeramy Cooke says this was pretty much the only hold-up, however, as the actual game design went smoothly, so don’t let your hopes for the game get all limp and lifeless just yet. 9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | As we previously posted, Life With PlayStation is live. We downloaded it (did you?) and took it for a spin. And yes, it’s basically Sony’s take on Wii News and Wii Weather — which isn’t a bad thing, per se. Life With PlayStation has literally just launched and it kinda shows. For example, there aren’t many cities on the Life With PlayStation globe. (Hello? Where’s Dallas?) But, we don’t doubt Sony will continue to add cities, though. Users can pull up news from Google, which is also kinda nice if you don’t have a computer. Our one big gripe: It’s somewhat hard to read the news text off a television from the sofa. Feel free to rattle off your own thoughts and impressions in the comments section. More »Sackboy Mascot Oversaturation Commence…Now
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Sackboy’s a cute creation! Nay, adorable. But come on, LittleBigPlanet’s not even out yet, Sony! You don’t want to risk over-exposing the guy, do you? Course you don’t. So it’s puzzling that it’s been announced today that he’ll be made available as a downloadable character for PSN game Pain. Yes, that Pain. You could have at least made it Hot Shots Golf, he might have got a little more exposure (not to mention there’s a precedent). What’s next, High Velocity Bowling?
