Lich King Coming On DVD Only (Sorry 5 1/4 Fanboys!)

Yes, we know, you have a DVD drive in your PC. Most of your buddies will as well. But not everybody has a DVD drive in their PC yet, which is why World of Warcraft still ships on four compact discs instead of a single digital versatile disc. Lich King, though, Lich King will be shipping on DVD only, the first WoW release to do so (Burning crusade shipped on both DVD and CD). So, uh, why does this matter? Being so low-spec-friendly, WoW was the last bastion of the CD in PC gaming, a format that dominated the industry from the mid-90s til the early years of this decade. With Lich King shipping on DVD only, we’ve probably seen the last of the CD, at least in non-shovelware titles. Goobye, old friend! We had some good, good times.

Gouken, known for teaching Ken and Ryu, is making an appearance in Street Fighter IV as a computer-controller challenger. Today, the game’s official blog offers details on how to face off against this opponent: Things like do not use any continues, do not lose the first round in any fight and get a certain number of “perfects” depending on what the machine is set to. Easier said than done. But who said this was going to be easy? galleryPost('gouken', 3, 'Gouken'); 「剛拳、見参!」 [SFIV Blog Thanks, TurboIIFC (Lino Martinez II)!]

Overlooked Warhammer Devs Get Their Due Credit

We heard last month that a bunch of people were going to be left out of Warhammer Online’s credits. Didn’t seem like the right thing to do, especially in the wake of similar fiascos involving Manhunt 2 and Okami. Well, turns out Mythic are now going to do the right thing, and will be making the entire credits – which will contain everyone that ever worked on the game – available online. And not just for WAR; they’re going to go back and do this for Dark Age of Camelot as well. The full statement announcing the move (made by the IGDA’s Jen MacLean) can be found after the jump.

Bungie May Need To Rethink Part Of That Teaser Trailer

No doubt the more fanatical amongst you have already dissected every last frame of today’s Halo 3 teaser from Bungie. While dissecting, however, did you catch this line? Says, quite clearly, “MADDIE, WHERE ARE YOU?“. Now, in all likelihood, this’ll have something to do either with somebody/something in the game called Maddie, or at the least some obscure, related facet of the Haloverse. It’s just a shame nobody at Bungie was aware of the high-profile 2007 disappearance of British toddler Madeline McCann, who was commonly referred to in the media as simply “Maddie”, because that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the words. Second thing was “ooo, that might be a little much”. An “oops, awful coincidence, that” message from Bungie couldn’t hurt. Provided it was an accident, at any rate.

UPDATE: Bungie has responded to the similarity, calling the reference “an unfortunate and unintended coincidence”.

Which Of These Is Not A Trap?

Here, three Japanese celebrities promote Hudson’s latest Momotaro Densetsu game in the 20th anniversary of the popular Japanese series. Famitsu notes that Hudson has railed in a “new-half” (aka, a “shemale”) for the promotion. So, two of them were born women, and one of them is actually a women. So, who’s who? Rather, who’s what?

Mirror’s Edge: Expensive Collector’s Edition

Nothing fancy here for Mirror’s Edge and its inevitable collector’s edition. No tin boxes, no action figures, no unlockable outfits or in-game trinkets. No, Mirror’s Edge is keeping things practical, offering you a CE (provided you preorder it directly from EA) that for $130 will get you the game and…a bag. An awfully nice bag, made by Timbuk2, which is also a bag that’s a replica of that used by the game’s courier starlet, Faith. It won’t beat out other CEs for quantity of goods, but it certainly has them beat on the quality front.

BioShock PS3 Has BioShock Xbox 360 Ending

Some people didn’t like BioShock‘s ending. It was constricting, people complained. Maybe you didn’t, maybe you did. But for better or worse, rest assured the Xbox 360′s ending will be the same as the PS3′s. According to PS3 version’s senior producer, Melissa Miller:

When you get a chance to work on something that was really creative you get the temptation to re-do things…We chose not to.

That means that the PS3 version will have the same final hours that the Xbox 360 does. Of course, developer 2K Marin is adding extra features to BioShock PS3, but the grist of the game is still the same. Mmmm grist.
