Let’s Flick Through The Gears Of War 2 Manual
11:20PM Luke Plunkett | This turned up tonight. Looks real enough. It’s missing some pages – most likely those detailing story/plot issues – but there are still plenty there. You see new weapons, you get rundowns of new multiplayer modes, you get a manual that looks like it was dipped in a cup of tea. None of what you’ll see is new, but there are bound to be a few of you excited by an unreleased game’s manual, so for all the pics, click the link below. Oh, and no, I didn’t put that accompanying text in there. Presumably Dude Huge requested it be scrawled in at the printers. Gears 2 Instuction Manual Surfaces Online [Ripten] More »
Iwata Vague About U.S. Release Date For DSi
11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | While Japan is getting the DSi this November, the U.S. isn’t. In fact, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said the company won’t be bringing the DSi to North America until late 2009 because it wants to continue selling the DS throughout the holiday season. Nintendo Co., Ltd. president Satoru Iwata is even more vague, telling business paper Nikkei, “The DSi will probably be launched in the US and Europe next year.” Outlining his vision of the DSi, he adds: More »There Are A Lot More GameCube Wii Remakes Coming (Pikmin 2, Jungle Beat, etc etc)
10:30PM Luke Plunkett | Yesterday’s announcement that Pikmin would be re-released for the Wii? It was, as you no doubt expected, just the start. Nintendo have big plans for this line, with many, many more games planned. And yesterday, they even announced a few of them. First up is Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, which will actually be out before Pikmin (on November 11), though with the game eschewing bongo controls in favour of standard (ie nunchuk + Wii Remote) ones it’s hard seeing the point in it all. The other announced GameCube games make a little (OK, a lot) more sense, and are Pikmin 2, Mario Tennis, Metroid Prime 1 & 2 and Chibi Robo. All will ship with updated Wii controls, and all will sell for budget prices. A 16:9 Wind Waker with Wii Remote bow and grapple aiming would be great, Nintendo. Just sayin! 9:30PM Luke Plunkett | Of everything announced at Nintendo’s Fall Press Conference yesterday, few things were genuine surprises. The DSi, we had a fair idea it was coming. Punch-Out, kind of predictable. Same goes for the endless parade of DS RPGs. But Sin & Punishment 2? That was a surprise. And a pleasant one at that! 9:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Yes, yes. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl writer Stuart Beattie loves Halo — so much so that he wrote a spec script based on Eric Nylund’s book, Halo: The Fall of Reach. This isn’t connected to the Peter Jackson Halo film project, which has since been killed. Beattie wrote the script between film projects on the hopes that someone somewhere will bring it to the silver screen. So far, it’s apparently still only a spec, but Beattie now says he’s in talks with Microsoft to get the picture made. As we’ve mentioned, the spec is based on the book The Fall of Reach. After the jump, the scribe lays out the script’s plot in his own words: More »Nintendo Pedometer Is For DS Walking Game
8:30PM Luke Plunkett | Mystery. Solved. That mysterious Nintendo pedometer from the other day has turned out to be more than a patented pipe-dream, as it featured in yesterday’s Nintendo Fall Press Conference. The pedometer is to be bundled with DS game “Your Life Rhythm”, which is basically a Brain Training/Wii FIt kinda program, just for your DS. And all you do is walk. So exactly like a normal pedometer, then, just a little more expensive, and a little more fiddly, since a normal pedometer doesn’t make you plug it into a portable gaming system just to see how far you’ve gone. 7:30PM Luke Plunkett | Using a conveniently-located typewriter to save your progress has been one of the few constants in the Resident Evil series over the years. Or, least it was. Capcom have finally waved goodbye to the old stalwart, with Resident Evil 5 to be the first game in the franchise to, well, get with the times and introduce a new save-game setup. Producer Jun Takeuchi: Actually, I really like typewriters; they’re really typical of the Resident Evil series. But this time, the save system will be a combination of checkpoints and chapters. You old RE fans can take your nostalgia and cram it. This is good, good news. Resident Evil 5 Dumps the Typewriter Saving System [1UP] More »
