PS3 Keypad Lands in Real (Hairy) Hands

Part game journalist, part werewolf, MTV’s Stephen Totilo got a chance to get a grip on the Playstation 3′s keypad at a recent event. Totilo claims that the alternating pictures, some showing baby smooth hands and some showing hairy monsters, are actually of his hands and those of Home lead developer Jack Buser. But we know the truth.

The good news is that neither Totilo nor Were-Totilo had trouble typing with the thing snapped onto a PS3 controller.

Source Mods Free on Steam

To celebrate the launch of MODs on Steam, Valve is giving away five “leading Source MODs” to anyone who owns a Source-based game. The publisher is also offering Half-Life 2: Episode One on steam for $5.

The free MOD pack comes with Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic.

“Valve has been supporting the MOD community since the company’s inception, offering updates to the SDK, holding MOD Expos and being the first to bring a MOD to retail with Counter-Strike in November 2000,” said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve. “The debut of these MODs on Steam marks the beginning of a new level of support for the MOD community by putting the leading MODs at the finger tips of over 15 million targeted gamers.”

Once the MOD pack, available now, is installed it will appear in the Steam “My Games” list and the MODs will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, the MODs support Steamworks, providing stat tracking and tighter integration with the Steam community.

New Resident Evil 5 Screens Depict Residents, Evil

Capcom has just released a batch of twenty-two new screens for Resident Evil 5, in honour of…well quite frankly I don’t know what they’re in honour of, or if they really need a reason. There’s a bit more of the interface included than I’m used to seeing in RE5 shots, but aside from that it’s just Leon and Sheva, hanging out together, killing them some infected peoples. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday evening.

Coolio on Guitar Hero World Tour: Beat it Bitch

The guys from UK site Gamer ran into Grammy-winning rapper Coolio in the elevator on the way to a Guitar Hero World Tour demo at a hotel recently. Of course they invited him along to check the game out.

After taking on La Bamba, Coolio was peer-pressured into taking a stab at Beat It and Gamer captured the whole thing on video. Wow, he really can’t hit those Michael Jackson high notes. But he does trash talk the game after eeking by on medium.

EA’s Probst To Head U.S. Olympic Committee

Larry Probst, chairman of Electronic Arts, has been elected chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported today.

“I’m extremely honored to be chosen for this role,” Probst told the paper after his election to a four-year term. “I’ve had a lot of sports experience as a CEO. I’ve had a very successful business career. I know how to work collaboratively with people. I know how to build and develop a team.”

Probst replaces Peter Ueberroth, former Major League Baseball commissioner.

Probst will likely spend most of energy at the USOC trying to convince the International Olympic Committee to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago.

I wonder if Peter Moore is bummed?

Yggdra Union: We’ll Never Fight Alone Review: A Battle Hard Won

Yggdra Union: We’ll Never Fight Alone, originally released in 2006 for the GameBoy Advance, is a tactical strategy RPG that features some rather unique battle mechanics. Instead of multiple units battling multiple enemies, only one unit at a time can fight, relying on battlefield position-dependent Unions to bring allies into the fight. Adding to the complex system are cards that represent your movement and power, adding special abilities to the fight and leveling as you use them. Much like it’s predecessor, Riviera: The Promised Land, Yggdra has now made the leap from GBA to PSP, bringing with it a tweaked difficulty level, enhanced graphics, and a few other changes that players of the original game are sure to catch as they play. Were the changes enough to make a good game even better, or were they better off leaving well enough alone?

Here’s the latest trailer for the Western release only Wii title MadWorld from developer Platinum Games and publisher SEGA. Yeah, it’s over the top and owes a great deal to Frank Miller, but dammit, I wish it was getting released here in Japan. Don’t make me buy an American Wii, Platinum Games, don’t do it!

Fable II CE Cut Even Further

So the Fable II Collectors Edition box set has been trimmed a little, losing the five printed fate cards, the Hobbe figure, and..oh yes, the box. Still, we still get a bonus DVD with developer diaries and the full game soundtrack, right? Perhaps not. Frequent Kotaku contributor and all-around nice lady Lesley Smith passes on this email from UK retailer Game regarding even further cuts to the decreasingly collectible edition.

We have recently contacted you regarding a marketwide problem with the Fable II Collectors Edition. We have since been informed by Microsoft that there has been a further complication.

They have advised us that the developer diary and soundtrack are no longer going to be available on the bonus DVD.

Let’s just hope that they don’t decide to cut the actual game from the CE before the title ships next month. Hit the jump for the full email.
