Gears of War 2 Campaign Impressions – Uninhibited
11:40PM AJ Glasser | I held back talking about the Gears campaign last week since a substantial amount of what I played was on co-op, which technically fell under the multiplayer embargo that expired today. More »Ravi Will Be Drumming Like A Madman To The Following Tracks…
11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Believe it or not, Wii Music is nearly upon us. Those still interested in picking the game up – or at least tolerating its existence – will probably want to know what kind of music it’ll be shipping with. While the full tracklist is yet to be announced, the game’s Japanese site has listed six songs. They are, in no particular order: More »

Mother 3 English Language Patch Hitting This Week
11:20PM Brian Ashcraft | Nintendo of America hasn’t localised Mother 3 (Earthbound 3). A shame, because the game is fantastic. Good thing that a fan-made Mother 3 translation patch is hitting this week. As game site Phantom Leap points out, it’ll be on computers via GBA emulators or on handhelds via flash carts. If you’re interested in reading a big, meaty review, check out this Insert Credit review from a few years back. Nintendo of America really should’ve localised this game. 11:00PM Luke Plunkett | Microsoft are happy. Why? Because while many of you were convinced to part with pre-order money for the first Gears of War, going off naught but a marketing campaign and some gravelly voices, more of you have done so for Gears of War 2. And when you’re a large global publisher, nothing looks better on the books than millions of advance sales. Such chest-beating over bean-counting is enjoyable not for the bean-counting itself, but for the precedent it sets; we fully expect the Gears 3 marketing to go one better and feature the press release “More Bottom-Feeding Forum Users Have Said They’re Totally Buying Gears 3″. Forgotten Worlds, Shining Force Gear Trademarks Appear
10:40PM Brian Ashcraft | Here’s a big list of recent Japanese trademark applications from Square Enix, Sega, Capcom, AQ Interactive and Bandai. Capcom’s registering (or we guess, re-registering) Forgotten Worlds should make many quite happy along with SEGA’s Shining Force Gear and Namco Bandai’s Solvalou. Hit the jump for the full list of trademarks. More »Aussie Cops Find A PS2 Full Of Drugs
10:20PM Luke Plunkett | Look, some laws down here, they’re liberal. Like, if police cracked a PS2 open and found a mod chip? There’d be trouble in the US, but in Australia, no sweat. They’re legal. But 3400 ecstasy tablets, that’s going a little too far. Three men (two Canadians and a New Zealander) have been charged with smuggling, after the console – which was detected by Customs at Sydney airport then tracked – was confiscated at a house in Surfer’s Paradise. If found guilty, they face a maximum punishment of $825,000 and/or life imprisonment. More »

Peter Molyneux Speaks About Next Game, Does Not Learn From His Mistakes
10:00PM Luke Plunkett | Look, I have a soft spot in my heart for Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux. I was a PC gaming tragic in the 90s, I enjoyed the first Black & White, heck, I even liked Fable. But really, Peter, if you’re going to keep all these Xbox kids in line – the ones who don’t know Bullfrog from Bullshot – you’re going to need to learn to keep your mouth shut. Speaking with Kikizo about his next big thing, Molyneux says: More »‘PLAYSTATION’ Is Now ‘PlayStation’
9:20PM Brian Ashcraft | Fact: The official way to write PS3 is not PlayStation 3, but PLAYSTATION 3. It’s true! As game blog PS3 Fanboy noticed, the latest firmware update changed the all caps “PLAYSTATION Store” and “PLAYSTATION Network” to “PlayStation Store” and “PlayStation Network”. Not sure if this means the PLAYSTATION 3 is now the PlayStation 3, though. More »Bungie Tried To Cut Halo 1’s Multiplayer
9:00PM Luke Plunkett | For all their attempts at space opera 101, the real pull for a lot of Halo fans wasn’t the struggle between humanity and a vast alien empire. It was multiplayer. Sweet, balanced, near-perfect multiplayer. But did you know that one of the series’ most important legacies almost never made the cut? Hardy LeBel – who aside from having a fantastic name also worked on the first Halo’s MP (he’s now with Ubisoft working on Far Cry 2) – explains: When we got bought by Microsoft, Alex Seropian and Jason Jones, who were the two principals of Bungie, came to me and [former Bungie engineer and animator] Michael Evans, and said, “Multiplayer is cut from Halo because we’re trying to make it really work on the console and we just don’t have the resources.” More »
