You know Dude Huge likes the Lancers. The blood, the gravelly voices, the destroyed beauty. But do you know what he likes to listen to? What he kicks his feet up to after a hard day’s puppy eating/Larry Hryb chainsawing/developing? Let’s find out! The Dude’s Zune profile has his favourite songs listed, and amongst the picks are Welcome to the Jungle, Paint it Black and, yes, Prince’s When Doves Cry. I love that song. I love everyone who loves that song. Don’t make me chase you, Dude Huge. Even doves have pride.

Bad reviews, so what? The Hollywood version of Max Payne staring Mark Walhberg came out on top at the box office in its first week, beating out Oliver Stone’s W. That film debuted at the fourth spot. Explained Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers: “The estimates for ‘W.’ were all over the place… You can’t really expect that a politically charged movie like that would take the weekend over a big video game adaptation with a movie star in the lead role.” W., of course, is director Oliver Stone’s take on the presidency of George W. Bush. Hey, W., so you’re President. What’s that like? Say “hi” to your mother for us, okay?
And not as a hardware bundle. Just as a general, Christmas-y giveaway. The deal was supposed to kick off this Thursday, October 23. It obviously, now, will not be. It’ll instead be kicking off a little later, whenever SCE Australia can confirm a local release date. The deal will see every single PlayStation 3 console sold in the country during the holiday season come with a copy of LittleBigPlanet. A free copy of LittleBigPlanet. Even if you don’t want one. Good news for Aussies in the market for a PS3! Bad news for LittleBigPlanet’s pre-owned market value.
The Prime Minister of Japan is Taro Aso. Educated abroad, Aso even competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics on the Japan’s shooting team. He’s best known now as apparently being a fan of manga Rozen Maiden and is thus popular among Japanese otaku. With that strong geek connection, no wonder an erotic game character named “Souri” (which means “Prime Minister” in Japanese) looks strikingly like Aso. The official site does make a disclaimer that this character is “fiction,” and that there’s no rational between the character and reality. The game is called Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai! with the “maji de” ready (Japanese for “really”) being a pun on a phrase which could also mean “with a real sword.” That explains the game’s sword motif. No idea how this Taro Aso character will come into play during the game.
Hit the jump for “Souri” sketches as well as a photo of the Prime Minister.
Car games need a good soundtrack to cruise to, so Midnight Club LA needs some quality tunes. Rockstar has today announced the highlights package and being an LA game it’s very much focused on the west coast scene. A few highlights from the highlights (that probably show up my personal musical biases) include Tricky, Modeselektor, The Chemical Brothers, Bloc Party, Beck, NIN, and Ice Cube. Full list is over the hump.
Readers Steven K., Eamon and Chris A. send this one in late, a screenshot from Chapter 6 in Dead Space that will help the rest of us decode what the alien scribblings on the walls mean. Some smudges on a few alien letters, plus some additional human phonetics (SS and TH, and “dbl letters”), but it’s a start for would-be graffiti decoders. Thanks guys. Update: Haven’t played the game this far yet, but gahazakul‘s comment seems helpful enough for those wanting to fit this into a canonical explanation that I’ll highlight it:
Just when we thought the Fable 2 early release story had been fun while it lasted, we’ve now received two reports that an EB Games in Melbourne has started moving units on the basis that Kmart’s breach gives them the all clear to do so.
We’re chasing fresh word from Microsoft on whether this would be considered in the clear, or whether this is something else that will require a bitchslappin’. If you’re in Melbourne and you’re eager, might want to run in to Swanston St and see if you can grab a copy in case it goes away. Though at this stage you only have a few weekdays to wait for full launch, so it isn’t quite as exciting as Kmart’s pre-weekend treat.
Full size money shot after the jump.
Here’s the final few minutes of the Atomic Live 2008 Cosplay competition, shot as a last second thought as there was some pretty good, and funny, work on show. The winner on the day was a very nice Altair from Assassin’s Creed, and the runner up? I don’t know if this joke has been busted out at a cosplay comp before, but it cracked me up. Todd, a geeky kinda guy, was dressed very much as himself with the costume entitled “A Girl On The Internet”. Nice.
It’s still early Monday after the big LittleBigPlanet delay news over the weekend, so the local Playstation team has yet to work out what the new Australian date for LittleBigPlanet will be. We spoke to a rep who said word will be released soon, so for all those who have been peppering me with questions on what is going to happen you’ll just have to wait a little longer. Hopefully we don’t draw a short straw and end up at the back of the global re-manufacture queue.
Here’s the latest trailer for Midnight Club LA and the police chase action you can expect to find. Or does a police chase find you?
