Run, Run, Avoid Mechanical Overlords, Run!

11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Hot flashes time! Tipster Killian was kind enough to alert us to Hunted Forever, a game that involves running. And…more running. You’re basically on the run, and while running, you’re trying to avoid being killed by machines. It feels equal parts Flashback and Mirror’s Edge, except its free, and a few glitches with your mechanical adversaries aside, plays a neat game. Hunted Forever [Newgrounds] More »

Peter Molyneux Compares Oblivion and Fable 2, Killing And Social Diseases

11:00PM Brian Ashcraft | More Peter Molyneux talking. Here he goes, talk, talk, talk. And when he’s not talking about his new game Fable 2, he’s talking about other stuff. Today’s other stuff is his opinion of RPG Oblivion and comparing it to Fable 2. According to Molyneux: Well, Oblivion was a fantastic achievement. But for me, that was a true ‘blood and guts’ RPG. There was an initial dungeon that you went through that was fantastic — but then you came out into that open world, and I just thought: “What the hell do you do now? Where do you go? Who am I? What do I stand for? Who am I against?” And there was this huge, vast rolling story. And to finish Oblivion would take sixty or seventy hours. More »

What Are You Buying This Season?

1:20PM Seamus Byrne | This list of mega-releases in November is completely CRAZY. No, seriously, I really wonder at the long-term business strategy in the games industry, still focused on the Christmas window as though gamers only get new games as Christmas presents. Anyway. Here’s a sampler of the big names landing next month, and most of them all the space of a single week! I might have a few of these wrong, but at a quick glance I see: EndWar; Gears of War 2; Call of Duty: World at War; Rock Band; Guitar Hero World Tour; LittleBigPlanet; Mirror’s Edge; Wrath of the Lich King; LotRO: Mines of Moria; Left 4 Dead; Motorstorm Pacific Rift; Wii Music… And this is all the front half of the month… AND all before we’ve finished digesting this month’s bumper crop! So what are you buying? What are you leaving until they hit the sale shelves early next year? And what are you ignoring? More »

The Most Dangerous Quantum Code Clue Yet

1:00PM Kym Weathersten | Yep, you heard right; it’s the most dangerous (and toughest) Quantum Code clue to date. Constance may have survived her brush with the dark side, but now it’s your turn to face the enemy, literally. Vaughn, the dodgy informant, will be waiting for you today, between 11.30 and 2.30pm. But where, you ask? You’ll just have to scan the above code to find out. Remember, this is a national comp, so if you can’t get to the secret local yourself, you’ll need to convince someone to go for you. Hit the Quantum Code forum to recruit some interstate dupe an associate. Better get cracking- time’s a wastin’. [Quantum Code comp on Kotaku] More »

Rumor: E3 2009 To Bring Back The Crowds, Maybe The Spectacle

12:50PM Michael McWhertor | The ESA is giving E3 another go in 2009, still trying to find the sweet spot between the ear-splitting boom of the old E3, the painful, panicked confusion of E3 2007 and the dry as dust E3 2008. With the most recent E3 Media and Business Summit suffering from executive and public criticism that the show was an unqualified dud, the ESA may be looking to shift the show back to early June, a time that industry planners think is better compromise between the original E3 and the previous two iterations. Unreal Tournament 3 Getting ‘Major Expansion’

12:40PM Michael McWhertor | Epic Games vice president Mark “Call Me Chocolate” Rein has let slip that the developer is hard at work on a “major expansion” to Unreal Tournament 3, according to a report from Eurogamer. Rein also confirmed that Chicago based publisher Midway was still the game’s publisher, clearing up any confusion that the Unreal Tournament series was one of the licensed underperformers it was trimming off. LittleBigPlanet AU Release ‘Working Toward’ November 7

11:53AM Seamus Byrne | Many readers heard this via retail channels, and shared in the comments, but we have just received official word from Sony Computer Entertainment that they are “working toward achieving” a November 7 launch for LittleBigPlanet in Australia and New Zealand. That statement leaves some wiggle room (that is, it doesn’t say “confirmed”) should something stall the re-mastery process and local re-distribution, but it’s good we know a date to hang out for. Save your pennies, people, because Nov 7 – 14 may now be one of the toughest weeks at retail I’ve ever seen gamers have to contend with. More »

Resistance 2 Ads Are HUGE In LA

11:40AM Michael McWhertor | Whether its our wildfires, our breast implants or our hovering clouds of carcinogenic smog, we like things to be huge in Los Angeles. Take our ads, for example. G4 snapped a handful of shots of the new Resistance 2 ads currently draped over a Wilshire Boulevard office building, terrorising those sitting in traffic — always with the traffic! — with a giant Chimeran Leviathan. Scary! Hopefully the boys and girls at Insomniac have had a chance to drive down from lovely Burbank to peep it. Huge ‘Resistance 2′ Sign Attacks Los Angeles [G4 - thanks, Neil!] More »
