Golden Axe Reviews Are ‘Irresponsible’ Rubbish, Says Reviewer

The editor of Play magazine, Dave Halverson, has some harsh words for anyone who scored Sega’s Golden Axe: Beast Rider below a 7 out of 10: “Be wary. The majority of these people (can’t call them critics) either didn’t complete a fraction of the game, don’t understand game design, or just plain suck at games.” At last check, all outlets but Play have reviewed the game well below Play’s 9 out of 10 — the GameRankings average is currently at 44%. Halverson derides these “sad reviews” as an “ever pervasive sign of the times.”

Guitar Hero World Tour Trailer Shows Tool Themed Level

A full Oasis album isn’t the only new thing you’ll be getting with Guitar Hero World Tour. When Tool licensed their music to Activision (which they haven’t done for anyone since 1996) they didn’t just want to have their music played in the game like everyone else. When you get your hands on it come October 26th, you’ll be treated to their other demand from the series, their own Tool themed psychedelic level based on their album artwork. Groovy

Dr. Phil loves the video games, or rather the amount of attention gamers give him when he talks about them. In today’s episode he tackles the dangers of computer game addiction, with the entire show dedicated to people who play games when they probably shouldn’t be. The show starts with a virtual Dr. Phil complete with a sword and hair talking about how virtual games let you escape from reality before launching into the story of l34-year-old Fred, who sits at home and plays World of Warcraft all day while his wife supports their three children. “Apparently he’s got you supporting him and taking care of the house. I wonder what level that is in the real world,” Dr. Phil quips.

Golden Joystick Voting Ends Next Week

It’s your last chance to try desperately to make your voice heard in the 26th Annual Golden Joystick Awards. The world’s longest-running video game awards have once again broken their voting record, with nearly 800,000 votes submitted so far. I sincerely doubt they’ll be able to break their target of 1 million before voting ends on the 27th of December, but by gum they’re pulling out all the stops trying, offering up prizes for every 10,000th vote submitted.
