First Gears 2, Resistance 2 Reviews Roll In
3:30PM Luke Plunkett | It’s that time again! The time of the year for the big games to hit the shelves, and for the big mags and websites to fall over themselves handing out 9s and 10s in response. Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 are two (2?) of the first to turn up, and whaddya know, the reviews are both from the official mags of the respective consoles. The UK’s Official Xbox Magazine has given Gears 2 9/10, while Britain’s Official PlayStation Magazine has given Resistance 2 a 9/10. Which is a shame! As someone who tracks review scores as a sport in of itself, rather than a purchasing guide, I was hoping to see one of them have a little more fun with it, hand out a 10 or an 8, just for shits and giggles. Ah well. Guess we’ll have to wait for the non-exclusive reviews to trickle in for those. [via VG247] More »Here, Some Final Fantasy XIII Screens
2:30PM Luke Plunkett | Courtesy of Famitsu. We’re pretty sure most/all of them are new, but then, Square Enix have released so many shots of CGI segments featuring people with pretty hair it’s getting really, really hard to be sure. We like this one, above, best, because if you ignore the pretty hair you can imagine some strange, parallel universe where the dude from Dead Space’s pants are available as DLC. 1:40PM Luke Plunkett | The new, back-from-the-dead E3 should be a hoot when it kicks off in 2009. Then 2010. Then 2011. Because that’s how long the show has signed a deal with the it’s traditional home, L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa revealing the city and the ESA currently have a three-year deal in place. Good news for the guys who run the LA Convention Centre, bad news for those of us hoping that the show will one day come to its senses and go down in Vegas. 12:40PM Michael McWhertor | First the good news. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is still great fun. We played it from the comfort of the Kotaku couch this week and had a blast. Now the bad news. That amazing Joker fatality, the one where… well, if you haven’t seen it yet, we’d suggest you watch it now. It’s awesome. More »Street Fighter IV Hits Consoles February 27, 2009 (In Australia)
12:20PM Luke Plunkett | Ask Capcom about a release date for Street Fighter IV on console, and all they’ll say is “Winter”. It’s helpful, but not that helpful. You want real helpful? Try asking the same question of Red Ant, distributors of Capcom’s titles in the Australian market. Their release schedule tells me Street Fighter IV will be out on these antipodean shores Friday, February 27, 2009. Which, while falling short of an official announcement, looks a little too precise to be a placeholder date. It also scrapes into that “Winter” timeframe by the skin of its inky black teeth. 12:00PM Michael McWhertor | According to a report from blog Joystick Division, one of their staffers was allegedly viciously attacked by a man claiming to be a Kotaku reader. The writer, Gary Hodges, claims that after being assaulted and told “I’m gunna teach you to be a Kotaku reader,” a crude “K” was scrawled into his right cheek with a “a toothpick or toenail, I couldn’t tell.“ More »New Details On MK vs. DC’s Unique Story Mode, Model Viewer, DLC Plans and More
11:30AM Michael McWhertor | Midway’s Ed Boon and Paulo Garcia, game designers on Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, stopped by the Kotaku “offices” yesterday to give us a near-final look at the upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 fighting game. Having already played the game at E3, Comic-Con and the Leipzig Games Convention, we were pretty familiar with how the game plays.

10:20AM Michael McWhertor | LittleBigPlanet may have suffered a brief delay due to some ill-considered soundtrack choices, but it looks like the rest of us — that’s you, North America — will be getting our hands on the game as early as tomorrow. Many of our dear readers and a few of us at Kotaku Tower have been notified by the staff at GameStop that shipments of the PlayStation 3 game are in. They can be picked up tomorrow, if you’re lucky enough. More »
