People preordering Prince of Persia were promised a treat. They were promised a strategy guide, an artbook and a CD. Promised, but never shown, as it’s only now that we get our first look at the collector’s edition pack-in. Or, the Japanese edition at any rate. Use your imagination, pretend the whole thing’s in English, as odds are this is exactly what we’re getting. It appears, based on the packaging, that the CD and artbook are rolled into one, so don’t go expecting a large, hardcover coffee table book for your preordering troubles. Still, for what it is, it looks nice enough.
Wondering how the upcoming DS Chrono Trigger remake is different? Previously, it’s been mentioned that there is a new dungeon. That’s not all as according to Famitsu, DS version is getting a new character mode and a new ending. The character mode has event scenes, music tracks, monster data and a treasure map.
Hit the jump for two screens that, Famitsu says, are connected to the new ending.
It’s 2008, and Child’s Play is back. You know how it goes. Penny Arcade blow the bugle, you lot lead the charge, your sabres gifts for sick children, your steeds, piles of cash money. So expect to see a whole load of events, drives and pledges for this worthy cause over the next few months, as our much-maligned community/industry gets its act together to bring smiles to the faces of those stuck in children’s hospitals across the US, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Egypt. You can donate to the cause right now if you’d like or, if you’re a reader of this site, and live anywhere near Denver, we know something that may be of interest.

Today Japanese mobile phone games are a little better, because today Square Enix is releasing Final Fantasy VII: Snowboarding. Priced at ¥315 ($4.80), the game is available on carrier DoCoMo’s FOMA 703i/902i series handsets. The mini-game has three levels of difficulty and one level of awesome. Screw that rumoured FFVII PS3 remake, Square Enix needs to put this snowboarding on the Nintendo DS and pronto! Screens of Cloud snowboarding with balloons on the link. No, really. It’s not April First. We already checked several times.スクエニ、iモード「ファイナルファンタジーVII スノーボーディング」 [Game Watch]
In May, we told you about Apple’s patent for a Wii Remote-like object. Now, it’s November, and we’re telling you again. Why? Because another, improved patent for the device has turned up. This takes it from the realms of “oh, it’s something Apple are exploring” to “oh, Apple are looking seriously at developing one of these”. It’s still using IR, and the same basic principles of the Wii Remote, except now it’s going one better by (in theory) having the ability to differentiate between the IR it’s meant to detect (ie the Wii Remote) and the IR it’s not meant to detect (ie your house lights). As a reminder, this is important because, with App Store games doing brisk business for the company on the iPhone, there’d be nothing stopping Apple doing something similar with this Wii Remote-like peripheral on other platforms.
You ask, and you receive. Last spring, when faceplate creator extraordinaire SpaceGhost2K attended a Microsoft Spring Showcase in San Francisco, Gears of War‘s Dude Huge, AKA the game designer formerly known as CliffyB, told SpaceGhost2K he liked his custom faceplates and jokingly (we think? we hope?) put in a request: TubgIrl. SpaceGhost2K agreed and created a Tubgirl faceplate, which he gave to DH at the Gears 2 launch.
Hit the jump for an uncensored version. It’s anime-style, but should still be stomach churning to those who haven’t erased the original image from their brains. Note: New to the internet and unfamiliar with Tubgirl? Check out this text only Wiki entry. Anyone who posts or links the actual picture in the comments section will get cozy with the brunt end of the Banhammer.
Square Enix has released its first half results for the financial year ending March 31, 2009. Exciting! While net sales are down, net income is up — in large part due to the strong sales of the DS Dragon Quest V remake and a successful media mix campaign. The company’s financial briefing has games sales data for Japan, North America and Europe. The biggest seller is the above mentioned Dragon Quest V, selling 1.150 million copies in Japan alone. The rest of Square Enix’s worldwide sales figures for the period dated April 1, 2008 to September 30, 2008:
Yup. More shameful use of the DSi camera. We know, this could go on for weeks, but this one goes up with parity in our hearts. Two squeezy boobs, two squeezy packages of manjunk, we’re all square.

Those tasteful Nike/Nintendo Air Max Classics from the other day? They’re just the start. Word filters down from the street that Nintendo and Nike will be releasing an entire line of sneakers early next year, all of them inspired by the Wii. Here’s some pics. You’ll find that, like the NES kicks, things are still being kept subtle (with iconography kept to a minimum), but the jury’s still out on whether these ones are quite so tasteful.NikeTalk [via KicksonFire]
The Nintendo Wii is not an HD game console like the Xbox 360 or the PS3. It looks better on small analogue televisions than giant flat screens. When asked if Nintendo was going to release an overdue HD Wii, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto played it coy:
