We’ve been getting emails about Microsoft once again banning consoles from LIVE. Microsoft’s Major “Larry Hyrb” Nelson has too, offering this company reply on what’s going on:
Bet you never saw this one coming, armchair sales fans. Microsoft just announced that Gears of War 2 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since it’s launch last week. Of that 2 million, a whopping 1.5 million had their stats tracked by the Xbox Live bean counters over the weekend. Those 1.5 million played 15 million hours worth of Gears 2 – which, on average, is a lot of Gears 2 – and unlocked 19 million achievements. No doubt Dude Huge and Chocolate Rein are, at this very moment, beside themselves.
The movie event of next year, Dragonball: Goku Freakazoid Face, will be getting a slightly earlier US release: Wednesday April 8, 2009. Nothing like a mid-week release to beat the weekend release rush. This comes after the movie was pushed from its original release date of August 15, 2008 to April 10, 2009. Re-shoots and post production caused the 2009 delay, and fingers crossed it has ample Goku Freakazoid Face. We love GFF!
Mike was right. No way in hell Toro the cat was going to make it to the US as DLC for LittleBigPlanet. Poor guy just doesn’t have the following in the West that he does in Japan. But as for all those other animal suits we showed you the other day? They are, as expected, going to be coming to the US PlayStation Store this Thursday. Along with a suitable replacement for Toro: MotorStorm dude. Or, as they’re calling him, MotorStormer. Prices for the costumes will vary, with the “sack-eating plant” (which was designed by a fan via competition) free, the animal suits going for US99c (get all four for $US2.99) and MotorStormer going for the “really?” price of $US1.99.
Says who? Says Apple, that’s who. In an interview with gadget website T3, Apple iPhone and iPod marketer Greg Joswiak says:
Above, the first eight minutes of the upcoming Resident Evil CGI feature, Degeneration. You’ll get eight minutes of backstory and build-up, along with a certain…understanding. See, at TGS, they had this running right next to Resident Evil 5, on a big screen. And Resident Evil 5 looked better. A lot better. The stiff, bulky characters and animation on show here look more like a pre-rendered cutscene for a PS2 game than a 21st-century animation film. Ah well. It has zombies, it’s Resident Evil, people will love it. After the jump, the conclusion to the above scene, age-gated because there are eat-the-flesh-of-the-living bits.
TODAY’S VERY IMPORTANT NEWS. If you read one post today, no if you read one post this month, read this about singer Christina Aguilera’s gaming interests. She tells MTV:
No press release, no fancy photos, there’s been nothing from Nintendo to accompany this product release, but release a new product they have: what you’re looking at is the imaginatively-titled “multiplayer control set”. Spotted at a US Target by a Go Nintendo reader, it’s official Nintendo gear, and includes a Mario Kart wheel, a Wii Remote and a Nunchuk. The damage? $US74.99. Which makes it two cents more expensive than buying the peripherals individually. Go figure.

Left 4 Dead Demo 4 Xbox Live 2. The Kotaku PSA posted earlier today that brought word of the Left 4 Dead demo hitting Steam today failed to mention that the Xbox 360 demo has also gone live. Well, it has — for everyone who is not in Japan. According to Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb’s blog, the game is rated M for an alcohol reference. Make sure the kids are out of the room when that occurs.
You have 2 days people. Just 2 days, until those limited edition Gears 2 packs are given away to five incredibly imaginative (and possibly disturbed) Kotakuans.
Which means you have just 2 more days to answer this question, via our comments section: What two weapons would you combine to top the Gears of War 2 Lancer?
Entries close 5pm (AEDT), November 14.
