U.S. Version Of Club Nintendo To Hand Out Physical Goodies

Nintendo of America announced that it was taking the Club Nintendo customer reward programing stateside in October, just prior to Tokyo Game Show. Details were scant, only revealing that Nintendo fans could accrue points through filling out surveys and, of course, buying armfuls of Nintendo stuff, then registering that stuff. But what kind of stuff will we, the purchasers of Nintendo stuff, get in return?

My Horse and Me: Riding For Gold Could Drive Me to Violence

Maybe I was overreacting, but I asked the Atari reps to take my pen away from me while I previewed My Horse and Me: Riding for Gold. I had a serious concern about stabbing myself in the leg after even five minutes in the presence of this game.

Guitar Hero World Tour Doubles Rock Band 2′s October Take

The release of yesterday’s top ten best selling software in the U.S. was curiously absent of any rhythm game presence. No Guitar Hero World Tour, no Wii Music, no Rock Band 2, all of which saw new releases in October. A look at the top twenty, however, shows that, save for Wii Music, that Guitar Hero World Tour outsold the debut of Rock Band 2 on the PlayStation 3. And, according to a report from GameDaily, the Activision Blizzard published game outdid the Rock Band competition in dollar sales by about two to one.

Sony Throws Down G.I.R.L. Challenge To Industry

SONY Online Entertainment has asked the games industry at large to contribute to the Gamers In Real Life (G.I.R.L) scholarship program, aimed at bringing more women into the industry.

By donating to the G.I.R.L. scholarship, we can encourage diversity in development and make a difference, hopefully creating more opportunities for women and ultimately making more video games women will want to play,” said Dorrell.

Prince of Persia Preview Soiree – Jade Raymond Conquers Dance Floor

Man, Ubisoft knows how to party. For their Prince of Persia preview event, they booked the Ana Mandara lounge at Ghiradelli Square, hired an acrobat troupe and henna tattoo artists, and crammed half a dozen hookah pipes onto the balcony section. There was also an open bar, a spread of Middle Eastern-themed food, and a monster sound system. (Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond led the charge onto the dance floor).

Classic Atari Joystick Goes USB

The standard Atari joystick was not designed for comfort. Or for gaming, really, if we are being honest. Retro cool aside, looking at it now it resembles something you would expect to find on a Soyuz mission control console.

Fable II DLC Mea Culpa Codes Going Out

Of the 790,000 or so of you who picked up Fable II last month, a good portion of you found yourselves without the code required to download the limited edition goodies you were promised. Chalk that up to a little screw up at the manufacturing plant. Fortunately, Microsoft responded quickly, giving those who got shafted an opportunity to secure what was rightfully theirs.

Too Drunk To Download – Dead Kennedys DLC For Rock Band

So conflicted about this. On the one hand, this must represent exactly the kind of corporate licensing sellout that has scratched a deep division between former vocalist Jello Biafra and his erstwhile bandmates.
